Agawam Municipal Golf Course
About
Agawam Municipal Golf Course has been a favorite among local golfers since first opening in 1944. It has a traditional layout that offers a few challenges but it's still player friendly enough for golfers of any skill levels. The holes are fairly straightforward but the gently rolling hills provide some subtly tricky elevation changes. There isn't any water on the golf course but there are mature trees lining the fairways. While it may not be what you're looking for if you're an avid golfer who wants a truly formidable test, Agawam Municipal Golf Course is not to be under-estimated. The greens can be tricky to pitch to and accuracy will take you far. This municipal course is a great spot for a quick and casual round that's also affordable.

excellent friendly course
Tom Dirico and staff both in the club house and on the course are excellent. most if not all are golfers who understand the game, it's nuances and what it takes to play the game. My friends and I are members and they can't do enough to accommodate us, other members and non members alike. Because of Tom Dirico and staff we will continue our membership.

Fall golf
play Agawam frequently. Why? Primarily because it is the perfect member course to belong to and I am a member. I started playing Agawam when I was 13….many, many years ago. Got my first eagle on the 1st hole.
However, throughout the years it was just a golf course. Play most anytime with friends. One could play Agawam, St Anne, Oak Ridge, the now gone Southwick and Edgewood, all local courses. Most of these courses were the same. Good recreational golf.
But, what changed? Amongst having an excellent greens manager, Dan….the town of Agawam made a great choice. They brought in Tommy DiRico. The town could not have brought in a better person to resurrect a golf course that was starting to slide a bit.
Together, Tommy and his staff, Dan and his greenskeeping crew have “paid” the course forward. Fairways and greens in great shape is very noticeable….and appreciated.
But Tommy and his staff have made a big difference. Friendly, accommodating and knowledgeable. What more could one ask for in a casual golf environment?
Thank you Town of Agawam for bringing the course to where it should be….the perfect storm of golfing and hospitality.

Great Course; Great Prices; Relaxed
Had a great time out at Agawam Municipal. Greens had just been aerated but the course was in great shape, especially for the little rain this season.
Tee times were well spaced so even though it was busy, there was no waiting in between shots. Did not feel rushed or need to play through any groups.
For the price, this is a great course for the area. I will certainly be back soon.

Across the Hillside, Then into the Trees
After a long summer drought, no one can expect great course conditions in Connecticut and southern Mass. Yet that wasn’t the real issue with conditioning today: instead, it was simply the aerated greens. Since I couldn’t keep an accurate score based on putting, conditioning was below average today. The rest of the course was decent, including good tees and, for the most part, above-average fairways. The roughs were a weak aspect in many areas, where sometimes your ball might bounce uncontrollably on excessive hardpan. The greens, from what I could tell underneath the sand, were previously in fairly good shape. They should recover by degrees in the coming days and weeks, especially with some significant rain..
Outside of that, this muni remains a fun round. The front nine, set upon a big hillside that drops down gradually from the clubhouse, may seem easy to low-handicappers, but that can be deceptive. The fourth is hardly an easy par-4; five a short par-three to a raised, postage stamp green; six a mean hole from tee to cup; and nine simply a beast, an uphill par-3 rating about a nine in difficulty on a scale of ten. You’ve got to play well on these holes, then, to shoot a good score over the front. The back’s fairways thread through woods, and most of the holes will test your tee-to-green game. Add to that a couple of very slippery and sloping greens (especially seventeen) and your hands are full on the inward side. And though the back nine never really relents, neither does it overwhelm, as the shot values are quite balanced.
The round was enjoyable today with my two playing partners who also used GolfNow; both were athletes and hit long tee balls. They were encouraging me–the 63-year-old–to try to keep up with them. Their sentiments were, of course, positive.
Agawam also benefits from its low-key atmosphere, good and friendly service in the clubhouse, and a fine setting in the hills of the Pioneer Valley.
