Nice course - play it while you can

Course and conditions are very good. Layout is challenging but not hard. Fairways and greens are good and the rough is difficult. Range is all grass which is really nice. Unfortunately they sold the course and it will be redeveloped starting next year I've heard. Rates have been dropped so it's a great bargain especially after noon on the weekends.

Good track, so-so facilities

I have been playing Glen Ellen (now, The Glen) for years. Over the past several years, the course has been in very good shape. There are some interesting and challenging holes. The course is walkable, though part of both the front and back nine is quite hill. For the shape of the facilities, especially the restrooms, $75 is a lot to pay.
I'll continue to play at the discounted times because the course is so convenient.

Change is bad!!!

I have played at Glen Ellen for many years.... Made a ton of friends. Was a member for over 25 years.... But!!! they have now increased their prices
so much that the average weekend golfer really can not afford to play on their property... $75.00 is absurd!! We can play a dozen other courses within
20 miles twice for that price... It's unfortunate but we will play there only under certain circumstances now... Too bad... That's why so many people
are opting to play elsewhere.

Walked

WAY overpriced and absurd policies. Attitude, too...

What a difference a year makes. Apparently lots has changed at Glen Ellen. I have played there for years. Today I was charged an obscene $75 to WALK 18 holes, despite the fact that this is the riding rate. You see they have a "policy" whereby carts are "required" before noon on the weekend. Interestingly they will "allow" walking, however require that a cart is purchased, even if NOT used. This is extremely poor business. Either have a cart policy or don't. To charge for an unused cart is just a vile way to operate. I would have understood having to take a cart.

As for the course, the place has gone downhill. The greens which were once very nice are now average at best. Pace of play was slow, and there was no ranger to push things along. They didn't even fill the water jugs on the course. Again, this was a ridiculous $75 WALKING round. There are lots of much nicer courses in the area that can be played for MUCH less money.

Glen Ellen, you need to just get over yourselves. Way overcharging for a really marginal course will not do anything for your bottom line. I can walk. TWO rounds on many much nicer courses for $75. Hate getting rolled with a ridiculous policy and an attitude.

Many courses have this same cart policy--Juniper Hills, Shaker Hills, HighFields. I'm not saying I like it, but it's now fairly common.

Not worth the money

Sadly this course is way overpriced because it would be very convenient for me to play from the next town over where I live. The tee boxes were in awful shape and the fairways average at best. For less money we can play better courses in the area including New England CC and Wentworth Hills. If the price drops and the tee boxes were fixed I would be a member at this course but I don't see that happening.

Nice Course

I enjoyed the course which was in good condition and played fast on a Saturday afternoon. The course plays fair, but long for short hitters.

Great shape

I hesitate to recomend this course only because all the great deal tee times will be taken! Seriously this course was in preteen condition, the best greens I've played on this year!,,,

"preteen condition"? Pristine, maybe. The greens at The Glen are really excellent, some of the best in the area. The fairway turf can be a bit thin, and teeing grounds not the best, but if you like good greens, play here.

Good course to reduce you score!

Good course overall. Nicely laid out. Open fairways with lots to room to land good drives. Roughs need serious attention. There is no "first cut". It is either fairway or deep rough...deep enough to loss your balls. Greens are F.A.S.T. and tricky. There is no spot to land and stop. So you have to be patient and chip in slowly. Avoid breezy days due to openness of the course...it will add 8-10 shots to your game. Overall value for money.

Nice -- wide open but tough greens

This is a solid track about 45 minutes from Boston. Not the easiest to get to as it's not that close to any of the interstates. Well maintained, 90% of course is very flat and wide open but if you miss the wide fairways the rough is pretty thick. The real challenge at The Glen is the greens. They're big, very nice, not super fast, and each green falls off to multiple sides. Is "turtle back" the term? It was my first time playing there so I could see the greens becoming more manageable as you get to know the course. Many times I would land the ball within 5-10 feet of the pin and leave myself with a long putt or even come off the green all together. $40 with a cart thanks to a Golf Now hot deal. Should I find one of these again at a suitable time, I will be back to The Glen.

A fun day of golf

I really enjoy playing at The Glen. The course is challenging without being overwhelming, the fairways are well maintained and in good shape, and the greens are fast and ball-mark free. The were quite a few people on the course when I played but the pace was pretty good for most of the day, though there were a couple of slow-down points.

Greens like glass

Great course for the money (hot deal for $27) the layout isn't much of a challenge to the naked eye but the course challenges you on missed fairways by the way of deep rough just a couple yards off the first cut, and the greens can compete with any course in the area. They are true as can be and very firm, tee boxes are pristine as well as the fairways. Overall very well maintained course that i'll be back to play again this season

The course was in great shape!

The course is fairly open. On most holes you can make a good score even if you are not in the fairway. The lay-out is good and you can hit driver most holes.
