Great memories
My grandfather first took me here when I was in middle school. My brother and I learned the game here in the summers while visiting family and have been golf enthusiasts ever since! My grandfather has passed on yet the vivid memories remain of this lovely, tree-lined, classic golf course. I'm now 33, a low handicap, and have played a lot of courses but this one still holds a special place. Sad to see it become a housing development!
needs care
Played late in the season, but fairways & greens have not been cut for 2 or 3 weeks. It could be a nice course but not in Nov.
Great deal!
Paid $30 for two, including cart! Life doesn’t get better than that! Southwick is a great layout, and the greens are in wonderful condition. The fairways and rough could use some attention. Since the course was recently sold, I don’t expect much improvement. It will be a sad day when this course becomes housing!
Great course
Great course with good greens. A couple of quirky holes on the back nine but a fun and challenging course
Great value!
Southwick CC is an old friend. My kids played there when they were little, and now they're in their 20s. The three of us had a great outing. We enjoy playing there very much!
Friday fun
Southwick CC is a great escape for the money you pay, the top of the hill course has amazing views, when playing in the fall you can appreciate the New England foliage. The greens are in good shape and the fairways are ok too, A good deal for the money.
Well Worth $20 (Cart Included)
I got a hot deal and paid under $20 (including booking fees) for 18 and a cart. The course is short and there were virtually no yardage markers. It could use better up-keep as the sand traps (the ones that are left) look like they are never dressed up, I teed off in near dirt a couple of times, and it's hard to tell where the fairway begins and the rough ends. However, the course was fair fun and I would definitely come back here to play 18 with a good deal. I think if I paid $30 or more for 18 and a cart I would complain but I didn't and I feel like I got more than the $15 I paid for.
Fun course to play
I was pleasantly surprised by this course. I saw some reviews online but I must say even though the greens were slow and had some spotting they rolled true and had enough movement to be fun. I would certainly play again and the layout was full of interesting holes and holes that would be fun for all handicaps
"FORE!"
The only two things that saved them from a one star review were the overly helpful elderly couple in the shop and the sighting of one of my favorite New England critters, the black squirrel. I actually was able to spend quite a bit of time dazing off into the trees and spotted numerous black squirrels. This was due to the horendous pace of play. Granted it was Saturday so all the week end warriors and their spawn were out and about. So if it wasn't 50 ft into the woods it was 50 ft down the fairway. Nothing against the newbie or child golfer as it's they who sustains the golf ecosystem and help keep our inflation low. But having junior treat every green like he's playing mini golf just so dad can justify to the Mrs that's it's ok to play two weekends in a row is rediclous. Its ok during the week when they can "wave us through" but on the weekends during prime time it's not possible. Enough about that. Let's talk cutting grass. How hard can it be?? Judging by those working in the shop it seems like they have an ability to retain help. So certainly their grounds crew would have the experience to know when, where and what to do. Wrong. Every hole with the exception of the few that can be seen from the road were in the worse condition from the length of grass to the condition of the greens. Fairways were the only areas barely passable but were still a week over due for a trim. Last but not least. They were attempting to water the greens at midday on a Saturday. Literally a group would finish up and they would turn the water on then turn it off as another group approached then turn it on again. Never have I seen that before. Wait until you hear some good press before spending your money here. Even with the golfnow.com deal it wasn't worth it and I won't be coming back anytime soon.
fun course
not a top course, but in pretty good shape with a few trickey holes, but no water.
Great value!
The course is average. The fairways were not mown. But we still love playing Southwick CC because it is a great bargain and challenging.
Fun Course
Had never played this course until a couple of weeks ago. I've found it enjoyable
and just challenging enough to suit my game. Will play it again...
An affordable gem
A beautiful Indian Summer day......though the greens are small, they are in great shape. A ton of pine needles and fallen leaves on the course making the lies tricky, but resolved by playing "lift and place". Fairways in spotty condition, but overall thought it was a great value ($15) on GolfNow.com. I enjoyed the course, though it was not as challenging as most I have played....a 112 slope rating. Sand traps were in poor condition.....good thing I kept on the grass. Course design and layout one of its best features.
great course!!
played here last week - course is in awesome shape and clubhouse is great for 19th hole! great course to make a regular spot - affordable and can always get out.
Fun-Fast
My partner was recovering from knee surgery, looked for course not too hilly\uneven., looked for some ideas on golf now.com. Found great deal at Southwick CC, Front 9 easy on stance\ lower body and back 9 good footing also. Played a few times before enjoyed each time. 1st hole straight away 4 that runs along Sunnyside Rd. that separates SCC and the Ranch club. Greens kinda fast and I struggled w/ putting speed. Conditions good overall for this busy track. Greens F-ways not 5 star when compared to its award-winning neighbor but good enough For the not too picky player. Kind of short from the "whites" however not being the longest hitter I enjoyed. The G-now deal was awesome, my partner offered to buy me lunch for his share of the 18 w/cart, I had the chick'n salad special & a coke at the clubhouse. If I had got a beer instead the total would have covered his half . AWESOME hot deal.
