Shaker Hills Country Club

Great layout - nice setting - friendly staff. At minimum half the tee boxes needed serious work. clumps of grass, some mostly dirt, some very uneven. Was like teeing off on uphill or downhill stance. Aprons on many greens really needed to be fixed as well. Fairways - poor to fair - conditions could definitely be improved considerably. Greens - really need help as well. Very bumpy.

The first green was in great shape, in went down hill fast from there, several greens had GUR in front of them and others were just brown dirt with greens that made the ball jump all over. The tee boxes were also in rough shape, they were barely a driver wide (probably due to their shape) which made position from the tee difficult.

This course is challenging and picturesque. The staff are very friendly.

One of the best public layouts in New England. Improvements appear to be ongoing to overcome past maintenance problems. Can play easy to extremely difficult based upon tee selection and pin positions.

Course is in rough shape. I plan to avoid it until at least sept

The new owner really stepped up and put $ into this great layout. Old arrogance is gone and clubhouse is (finally!) finished. Still need to provide better deals and get more people to play it at a more reasonable rate.

I was the first one off as a single so I got to finish 18 holes in just over 2 hours. Not sure what the pace of play would be like later. Lots of places to get in trouble and slow down a match.

The course was in good shape and played well. Some real interesting tee shots due to the elevation changes.

Love the layout, new ownership is doing a great job with renovations and conditioning.

Quality of design is better than many private courses in the area; as a public course it is apparent that many players don't treat it respectfully enough - failing to replace divots and pitch marks.
New owners is doing a great job with tweaks to design, improving conditions.
Highly recommend to anyone , perhaps except hackers.

So I had heard about the improvements made at Shaker Hills with the new management. Most of the rumors are true. The staff is friendlier, and the prior arrogance seems to be gone. Course is in very nice condition. There are still some spots here and there that need attention, but overall it's much better than when I played it 3-4 years ago. I couldn't ask for a better value, the round cost me $37 in the early afternoon.

I had to take a star off for three reasons. First, it was cart path only on the entire course. The course was dry, i didn't understand it at all. Most of the time, I'd rather walk than drive when it's cart path only. Secondly, there are alot of blind tee shots. This is especially noticeable due to the lack of GPS on the carts. For a regular, this probably isn't much of an issue, but for someone who plays here sparingly, it's a factor.

Lastly, for some reason, the starter let the twosome I was supposed to be playing with out 20 minutes early, and didn't tell me. So I'm literally standing on the tee for 15 minutes waiting for my playing partners when he realizes what happened. I knew there were 3 foursomes directly behind us as well so i had zero interest in getting stuck behind them. He then lets the first of those foursomes go in front of me, which really ticked me off. He then tries to explain himself, saying "it's tough dealing with singles (basically blaming me)." What does that even mean? Every player has a tee time on his slip, it's not rocket science. He then proceeds to tell me he's going to have me join a threesome coming off the front nine, so I'd be starting my round on #10. This REALLY made me angy. I ended up saying absolutely not. I went out solo and played thru that first foursome. It worked out well in the end because I was able to play the entire round on my own, playing 2 balls on nearly every hole.

Had played this course many times years ago. Under new management/ownership and it shows. Well manicured, first rate clubhouse. Good choices for tees, pick the right one for your handicap. Length is not the primary need, accuracy and good green reading skills will make a difference

I thoroughly enjoyed my afternoon round particularly considering the conditions as the temperature and humidity was extremely high. I thought the course and it's staff were very welcoming and I will look forward to a return visit. A picturesque lay out with a number of elevated tees that highlight the new england countryside.

This course was in great condition and the scenery was beautiful. Hitting from the forward tees, driving the ball 200 yards, you will find some narrower fairways or strategically placed bunkers.

This is a well maintained course with many beautiful holes. It is tree-lined but not overly tight. There is no development along any of the holes....very natural! Many elevation changes that add some complexity to club selection. It was only moderately difficult from the white tees. If you hit it straight and have a decent short game you will really enjoy the course.

Shaker Hills was out of commission for a while before returning late last year. It is a gem. Challenging, picturesque, and in great shape.

We played this course on a $30 twilight deal and it was one of the best deals I've ever gotten. For some reason, maybe the threat of rain, the place was empty. The course is in fantastic shape and the difficulty level is not too high but is still quite challenging (mid-handicappers, we played from the blues). The combination of features and elevation changes make it really interesting. The only small complaint I have s that the greens were a bit slow. But at the end of the day in a rainy season that's kind of expected. I'll be going back.

Especially at the discounted rate that we got through GOLFNOW, it was so worth the money. The course was in outstanding shape. The only gripe I had the whole day was that the pin placement on the 8th hole was essentially unfair. It was sitting right at the top of a ridge so it was essentially impossible to make any putt that wasn't below the hole (and there were only 5-8 yards of green below it). The mix of doglegs was nice. The 3rd, the downhill par 3 over water was very interesting. Would have played much faster if the twosome with which we were paired wasn't ridiculously slow. Overall, great course and the $ put into the place has clearly been well spent. Definitely a course that requires you to think, not one where bombing with a driver on every par-4 or 5 is logical. Lots of irons and fairway metals here. Great time!

Had a great experience from the moment I parked my truck in the parking lot.... A course employee came over with a cart, loaded my bag in and gave my clubs a quick wipe down. Due to the fact the driving range was closed the starter let me get out earlier than my tee time which is always nice..... The course conditions and layout were awesome. I will be back!
