OK
This is an OK course. Firly flat with wide forgiving fairways. The day we played was ho and humid but it was till afun course to play. I played the sivr tees at 5200
hundred yds. and it was easy to play.
Difficulty of holes well mixed.
First group on the course. Course was well maintained and we encountered no maintenance employees even at 7:00 am. Weather was superb and the first hole was the only green where we noticed dew on the green.
Nice course
Basically I had a good experience of this course.
People are friendly and helpful. I enjoyed course layout and condition is fairly good.
I have found weekdays morning is good timing to play because it is less crowded.
Townsend Ridge
This is a fun course to play, it's challenging.
Some target holes if you're not in the fairway it's a long day.
Staff was nice, club house, pro shop.etc.
Only down side greens are slow needed to be cut or rolled. A few burnt out dry areas.
Still for the price it was a good deal. Would play there again.
Good, not great
Layout wise with is an intriguing course considering it is only 6300 from the tips. The fairways are tight on most holes and there are several forced carries. Sadly, the course condition leaves some to be desired. The fairways were in rough shape with several spots that we burnt out of completely gone to dirt. The greens were lush with a lot of grass but they were sharply and very slow. If the condition were to improve I would recommend this course based on the layout which is a good challenge even at just 6300 yards.
Slow play 5 hour 15 minute round
There was no starter and no rangers on the course so it looked like people just teed off whenever they wanted. There was also numerous club championships being played that morning so I think that stacked the course early on. Then the foursome that was 2 groups in front of us fell way behind the group in front of them but since there were no rangers on the course they continued their slow play. In the clubhouse afterwards a member I spoke with said the owner also owns Sterling CC and spends his time and resources there. The staff, cart girl and bartender were all very nice and the food was pretty good to. I'm not sure I'd go back on a weekend due to the slow play but I may go back on a weekday.
Good, but not great
Course is extremely narrow. If you spray the ball you could have a bad day. Conditions are spotty this year at best. Greens were painfully slow and had to take generous relief in the fairways to find grass on 4-5 holes. Staff was good and it's close by can't beat the deal. Will go again if the conditions improve.
Townsend Ridge
Good condition, fun layout, great experience. Will definitely play here again.
Golf in the farmlands
My son and I played 18 holes. Its a little tight but not a lot of OB mostly lateral hazard markers. Challenging.
Bring a few extra balls. The course was immaculate; the electric carts were quiet. The surrounding woods was pastoral. A great course to visit in the sumnmer since there are many farm stands along the route. A great way to play a round.
First visit
Townsend Ridge is a well maintained, tight course with a friendly staff and reasonable prices. 3 friends and I played there on a Sunday in July at 11:00 and were surprised with how few players were on the course. A twosome teed off in front of us and moved quickly. We never saw anyone behind us. The course is not long but it is tight. If you keep your drive in play you often are hitting short irons or wedges into the green. It's a bit out of the way from the Route 128/95 area, approximately 55 minutes, but worth the trip. We will play there again.
Townsend Ridge is a great value
From the white tees, you can leave your driver in the trunk of your car. Some holes are tight with narrow fairways. This course is a pleasure to play. It is fair and challenging.
Beautiful Course
I love this place. Green, rolling, well laid out, challenging. and different. We had an early tee and temp and conditions were perfect.
Last but not least a great value going through Golfnow!
not 4.3 stars
challenging short golf course....greens looked good but extremely slow....fairways and rough a little scraggily...carts good....very tight course....give it a rating of 3.5......but price was great...25 bucks total on golf now..me and another guy played fast...first ones off at 7 am...2 and half hours....
Pleasantly surprised
Course was in great shape and proved challenging in a fun way! Would definitely go there again!
Great day
This is a fantastic course. Club pro Derek fors does a fantastic job, I will go again for sure!
Great Challenge
Plenty of really nice holes and normally outstanding conditions. Scenic and a true hidden gem. Worth a drive just to experience a country club setting.
Not on Everyone's Golf Radar
Townsend Ridge bills itself as the "friendliest course in Central Mass." That may be true, but like most eastern Mass golfers, I do not get this far west that often. It is a hike for most out either Rt. 119 or 113, but I am guessing golfers pour out of the Fitchburg area to play this very good public course. It is a challenging layout, carved out of dense woodlands, marshlands and numerous hills of varying grades. Its in very good shape this summer, very green and well maintained. The greens were slow, but it may have been a non-mowing day. I paid $27. to walk 18 holes at 1:15 with the caveat that I had to be done by 4:30 because 144 league golfers were going to shotgun at that time. I did that with a few minutes to spare ahead of this event. The 4th is a bear of a par 4. It long, uphill and narrow with dense woods and hazards on both sides. I made a typical 6. On the back the 13th is an odd, uphill 90 degree dogleg left over a rock pond. Its short, and depending on what tee you hit from it could be a 4 iron/wedge hole or a 3 wood/9 iron hole. Its quirky yet cute. The 14th is the top of the world hole, a long par 4 with a great view. The staff is very friendly at TR, especially the women in beverage service. I think they all understand that getting people out to Townsend and then getting them to return takes a total effort. TR is a good course to go check out and to test your game on. If you live in that area you know it is worth the trip, while those of us from far away may have to weigh the distance/value equation.
This is a very challenging course that is well maintained.
The course is well maintained and very challenging.
Correct the yardage markers
The yardage markers are not correct. We had a 4some in front of us that were extremely slow and refused to let us play through. Extremely rude people. Took their time looking in the woods for balls, then took forever to hit a shot. It was a very long back 9.
WORTH THE TRIP!
THIS COURSE HAS A GREAT LAYOUT, WITH VERY MANY CHALLENGING HOLES, ALL OF THEM SHAPE OUT OF THE FOREST. A NICE PRO SHOP, AND 19TH. HOLE TOO! DROVE 75 MILES EACH WAY, TO PLAY THIS COURSE, AND WE DO IT AGAIN
