Terrific Wayne Stiles Course

I have tried to seek out as many courses designed by Wayne Stiles and John Van Kleek as possible. Mink Meadows did not disappoint- it has a nice compact routing that ends in wonderful greens that are raised and typical of Stiles. Course is recommended if in Martha’s Vineyard.

Disgusted

I am disgusted with this course. I came to go the driving range. When I went to pay they told me I could not go because I was not wearing a collared shirt. I asked if they could make an exception and they understandably said no. Then I looked out onto the course and saw a woman wearing a t-shirt. I pointed her out but they still would not let me play. As I was about to leave I noticed the woman behind me was wearing a plain gray t shirt just like my plain black t shirt. She bought balls for the driving range and started walking over no problem. I then asked why she was allowed to play and I wasn’t. The manager tried to explain to me how she was wearing a golf shirt. I asked what made hers a golf shirt and not mine. He had no explanation and then proceeded to tell me I just can’t play. I am disgusted and outraged. If you are looking to play golf on Martha’s Vineyard, go anywhere else.

Love this Vineyard Course - Enjoyable Walk and Interesting Holes

I recently played 9-holes in November and the course was in excellent condition. I have also played two rounds of nine and two rounds of 18 in spring and the course was always in great condition.

Mink Meadows is a 9-hole course with two sets of tees (or alternate tees for a back nine that allows you to play a full 18-hole round). There are no water hazards at Mink Meadows and only one ocean view (but it is a beautiful view).

Don’t let the 9-hole setup and no water hazards on this course lull you into a state of ease. It is a challenging course! It can be very windy too! If you drive the ball straight you will have an advantage because the fairways are lined with trees or wispy grass. The bunkers are strategically place and make you think off the tee. The greens are particularly interesting and even a perfect shot will roll off the green if you don’t know the slope. Make sure to ask the Golf Pro for a few tips before you tee off. One tip – on the 9th/18th hole everything rolls right (towards the ocean even though you don’t see the ocean).

The first nine holes are perfect for anyone! Expert golfers will enjoy the challenging greens and beginner/intermediate golfers will NOT feel overwhelmed because it is a bit shorter than the back nine. And when you play the alternate tees on the back nine you really do feel like you are playing a different set of holes. It was really amazing to me how different the holes felt off the tees.

The atmosphere is another plus! It is relaxed and everyone I met was friendly and welcoming. There is a nice practice range at Mink Meadow but there is a distance limit (165 yards) so if you hit your driver a long way, you won’t be using a driver on the practice range.

The pro shop has a nice collection of clothing and snacks (for the turn) but there is not a fancy bar or restaurant. Mink Meadows does have a nice porch so you and your friends could buy a soda and a bag of chips in the pro shop and sit outside on the porch, rehash your round or watch the golfers on the 9th hole.

For some the fees may see high but it is a major vacation destination so compared to Farm Neck, the other semi-private course, Mink Meadows is a bit less expensive. In the winter it is $27 for 9-holes but in the summer the 9-hole rate is $70 for prime time hours.

Best Public Course on the Island

Fantastic nine hole course. Multiple sets of tees give it a different look each time around. Don't shy away because it's only nine holes. Pace is awesome 1:45 for nine. Fantastic shape, great layout, just a ton of fun to play. Not easy by any means but definitely fair. Green complexes are awesome.Staff is also absolutely amazing and could not be more accommodating. Friendliest bunch of people. If you are bringing your sticks to MV this is the place to go.

Fantastic day of golf

This a beautiful golf course with excellent fairways and greens well suited for beginners and intermediate like us.
The course in 9 holes with alternate tee off positions the first are longer than the rsecond time around.
Ideal to play 9 holes or 18 when holiday in MV.
