Slow play

We are done with this course. Another 5 hour round. They don’t even bother to to try to coordinate play. No ranger to be seen. Only in fair shape. Not worth the aggravation.

Soaking the consumer for every last cent

It cost $40 to play aerated greens and the front nine TWICE on Nov. 10! The back nine was closed. Pace of play was horrendous -- 2 hours, 40 minutes for nine holes. Players should expect to lose balls in plain sight during fall golf in New England but searching 10-15 minutes for lost balls in unacceptable. Even in a pandemic.

Poquoy couldn't help the customer by giving a little break on the price, given the quality of the greens and one nine closed? Disgraceful. Won't go back again and would not recommend it to anyone.

Great golf course

It's been 20 years since I played here. A very nice layout and a lot of fun to play. Good job by maintenance during a drought. And the food was very good.

Poquoy is back in prime condition!

I have played this course for over twenty years. A few years ago the conditions were not good with the new ownership. Well the new owners have listened and the course is back to fantastic shape. Tee boxes and fairways very good and greens excellent condition. I played early morning and there were many, many grounds crews working all areas of the course. This is one of the best public golf courses in New England when the course is taken care of and now it is. Thank You!

Poor value

Sadly, during this Coronavirus situation, courses are just beginning to recover some flow of revenue. I am thankful for the ability to play anywhere, given out governors approach to business. However, I was disappointed with Poquoy, always a favorite of mine, locally.

I had played at this course numerous times in the 2000s and always enjoyed the conditions. Yesterday was not the same.

The layout is interesting and a challenge, as the fairways are largely narrow. The staff are very nice. The governor had just approved range use and carts the previous evening, however, only the carts were available at mid morning - the range was still being prepared., which, I guess, is reasonable. The clubhouse was still closed by edict.

On to why this review is negative. For a $55 fee, walking, I expect the course to be in prime shape. It was fairly good but the greens were like putting on a shag carpet. That is what I expect at a crap course, not Poquoy and not at that price. It’s just that simple.

Great day at Poquoy!

My three partners and I played our long-awaited annual summer match and had a wonderful day - the course was in superb shape and Nora, in the club house, made us feel so welcome. I have played on this course for 40 years - so many great memories - and today’s experience just served to reinforce how special a place it is...just a great golfing experience!!!

Course conditions improved

Management has hired a new grounds keeper and results are positive. When I played here last year the course was a mess and most of the greens were gone. When I played this week, the greens were in good shape and overall conditions MUCH improved. I have played Poquoy for over 30 years and I am happy to see Mgmt bringing this great course back to life

What a Shame

I have been coming to PB for 30 years. The course conditions on 8/19/18 were terrible. Most got the greens were gone as it apprears no water and no maintenance is taking place with the new ownership. Most of the fairways were in bad condition as well. Me and my friends will not be coming back until the new owners start taking care of the course.

Great but slow....

I love this course. I love the layout and the challenge. There are four Par 5's but only 1 of them is easy to reach. The rest are long with risk/reward decisions.
The course is in great condition and the greens are challenging.
Staff is friendly but it sure does pile up on the weekends. 4.5 to 5 hours easy.

Challenging course

Overall good course layout and challenging too. Course is in pretty nice condition this year with all the rain we've had so the fairways and greens are very nice and the rough is thick and hazardous. Course was bought by another group over the past year and they've renovated the clubhouse and moved the pro shop closer to the 1st tee. The new bar and restaurant aren't as good as the previous version and you can't get food very quickly either. I guess they want more people hanging out at the bar rather than sitting down for food. Overall it's a nice track and worth the time to play.

TOO MANY OTHER CHOICES

great layout, not the course i remember. Played here numerous times last year and just not in good shape, rough was like the US open, not short enough for the average golfer. Carts are ridiculous, stop in the middle of a fairway and have to back out, this is when you are allowed to be there. They use to have a great kitchen that had pizza and other pub food but now changed to a restaurant. Not quick at the turn and needs to have breakfast sandwiches....too many other options out there to choose from.

Lived up!

A friend had recommended this course several times. I finally went. I'm regretting having waited so long. Fun layout. Greens had been aerated but in April that is to be expected. I will be back here soon.

Back nine twice

My only complaint is that the front nine was closed. I would have booked a tee time closer to where I'm staying if I knew that before I got there.

From the tips

I was a single and got paired up some big hitting 30 something kids. I'm a 13 index and they wanted to play the tips at 6900 yards. The course played every bit of the yardage with the tee markers as far back as possible coupled with a steady breeze. Golf Now provided a cart but it was a beautiful day to go for a stroll so I did. It's a good looking course with some elevation from the tee boxes. The greens were slicks and the fairways were nice and green and provided a bit of a roll even though we are in the middle of a drought. Past the rough on each side it was burnt from all the heat and lack of rain. Nothing the course can do about that.
This course you pay a premium for straight tee balls since trees come into play a lot. The second hole is a good example. It's 420 yards and it is a shoot you hit out of for a good 200 yards till it opens up. Go left and your in the trees and OB and right you are in the trees just chipping back into the fairway but blocked from going for the green.. Your second shot with a good tee ball of 220 is a solid 200 to s sloping green.with plenty of speed. This course has multiple dog legs and bends and having played it many times it helps to have a good amount of course knowledge. Water comes into play on many holes and you have to be aware of streams running across the fairways. They are strategically placed. I would not call it target golf but you need to be aware of them on extremely long drives as well as layups. The par 3's are very long and well bunkered. I think one was playing 220 into the wind. That is driver for me.
Overall it was a beautiful day and in the end I shot 83.... That was acstrong day for me since I had a 92 three days before. It was a great value and you will probably enjoy the course a lot.

Poquay Brook

My first time playing here was a good round. Staff members were good did their job. Only had time to use practice putting green but saw a nice area to warm up. Overall course was in good shape, greens were especially good. Fairways were nice and green despite our drought summer. Had a really good day and will definitely return and recommend!!

Good bang for the buck

Visiting family and needed to get out. Pleasantly surprised, this course was in great shape. Tough yardages left after tee shots. Challenging course, with no need to be like the other idiots out there playing from the blues!!! Needed a ranger to stop these wannabes. Why shoot 90's from the blues when you can shoot 80's from the whites. Other then them holding up play as usual, would definitely play here again

It had been a while

I hadn't played here in many years, and was pleasantly surprised that it was still in good shape. It's a classic New England course. The score card listed the blue tees at about 6800 yards, but it didn't really play that long. The par 3's were all playing 190-200 yards, and 16 and 17 are long par 4's, but those were the only times the course felt long. I'm pretty sure I'll start coming here again.
