Hmm...

The course was in pretty rough shape and they just aerated the greens. Cart paths have nearly disintegrated, rough and fairways are super bumpy and tee boxes need to be redone. In that price point, I'd much rather play Hilltop or Fox Hills. They did have quality Michigan microbrews on tap for $2... Score.

Quick Round on Unique Course

Me and a buddy decided to try a new course in Ann Arbor for a change, and settled on a Golfnow special for Ann Arbor County Club. The club is located in a very secluded area (middle of neighborhood) and parking is across the street in an open lot.

When I first arrived, the place looked empty and desserted, which made me a little nervous that it was closed. After parking, I walked up to pro shop and was pleasantly suprised someone was there! This was on a Monday morning, but still definitely expected more golfers out there. Oh well, that just meant we would have a nice quick round.

The front 9 was definitely the more unique of the two nines. Some interesting but fun holes that you won't find elsewhere. The rough was definitely longer that I would expect, but not so long that I thought it was cruel. This 9 is definitely a shotmakers side, with expectations of having to keep it in the short grass, versus being long.

The back 9 was much more like a traditional course, and I enjoyed it very much. This 9 seemed to be maintained a little better than the front and was very enjoyable. The bunkers seemed to be in good shape and the greens were as well. Only problem was a leaking sprinkler on 16 that left a soft spot in front of the green (which of course is where my ball landed#.

The staff was courteous and friendly, and actually saved me as I had a nail in my tire, which was somewhat flat when I returned to my car. The pro shop staff actually took me to the maintenance shed, where David offered to look at the flat. After we discovered the name, he filled my tire with air #actually filled all my tires to proper pressure), enough so I could get to a tire shop. Way to go above and beyond!

Overall a nice experience and I will return.

Okay older course.

A buddy and I got on for very cheap. So this was well worth it for the price that we paid. The good: greens were in good shape, fast pace of play for a nice Sunday, very interesting hole designs. The bad: greens were criminally hard/fast, fairway/rough not always in the best of shape, bumpiest course I've ever played. All in all its worth playing if you can get on for cheap.

Great Course!

Beautiful scenery tucked into an upscale neighborhood. Everything you can ask for from a good country club. Hit it twice this week and I'm sure ill be back again before summer's end.

This was fun!

Brought up some of our staff for a trip to Macinanc and we spent night in Ann Arborl. The weather was perfect for golf and we were ready to play in morning instead of waiting to get to the Island. So we asked around and happened to ask some locals where they play (stayed at Webers) and they recommended Ann Arbor Country Club. They said the course is challenging for any scratch golfer and the duffer ould have fun too. Called out and were told it was a little busy, but they would get us in within twenty minutes. We waited only 10 minutes and were directed to the back nine. We all had a great time!! And, the back nine had a few challenges, but was really fun to play. It helped we used the course smart phone app recommended by staff (no charge) with a gps function and flyover for each whole.

The front nine was much more challenging but by then we were all in the zone (well four out of six -- sorry -- James and Gill but you guys were not in the zone (could have been the Tequilla shots the night before).

We asked a couple of members (very friendly and made us feel like we really belonged) and they gave us some pointers on the biggest challenges (#4, 6 and 8) and we found their advice helpful and it made a difference knowing what to expect on these holes. Not much water to carry but enough streams located near at least half of the holes to cause us to lose a couple of balls -- even after being advised to lay up. I just had to go for it! In fact all of us went for it and only Gil lost his ball.

At the turn we stopped at the snack bar and got a great phillie steak wrap and draft beer. And, the twins who served us were a show by themselves -- very friendly and outgoing and very funny. Obviously they work well together as they were finishing each others sentences or anwering our questiions on the menu in unison. Thanks ladies, you made a delicious meal even better with your outgoing personalities. Stayed a little tooo long and lost our place at the turn but were off again in no time.

We enjoyed it so much, we played there again on our way back. And, we played it better but not so well -- we are going back for another fun and challenging round of golf.

A real bargain and lots of fun. And, the course was beautiful and the greens were super. Best course I have played overall in several outings this summer.

Thanks for an enjoyable morning and afternoon!

Great Guys Night

Me and a few friends of mine have a weekly scramble where we go play local courses. This week we played at The Ann Arbor Country Club. None of us have ever played there so we didn't really know what to expect. The course was a great challenge and had some interesting holes. Number 6 was a very intimidating hole yet unique at the same time. I can see why it is one of the toughest in Washtenaw County. The staff was extremely friendly and welcoming. They were organized an efficient. The course had a few rough spots here and there, but all in all was a great course and I highly recommend it. The restaurant was PHENOMENAL, the food was perfect and the service was great. I will be going back to the Ann Arbor Country Club for golf and dinner again very soon.

Go Now!

I'm from out of town and I this is my second time playing the course. I played last year and felt that course wasn't maintained very well so I was uneasy about returning. I was pleasantly surprised with the new condition of the course. I felt like the fairways and greens were much improved and well worth the value. The staff was absolutely kind and cordial and I felt welcome right away. The front nine is one of the most unique, fun nines of golf I've ever played. The back nine is a little more traditional and very fun to play. There's no reason that you shouldn't be at Ann Arbor Country Club (open to public) today because the price is great, the staff is nice, and the course is fun.

10 dollars is too much (believe it or not)

My threesome paid $10 apiece ($12 with the Golfnow fee) to play this course in late July. We figured we had a great deal no matter how the course looked. We were wrong.

The front nine of this course is easily the worst nine holes I've ever played. The greens on two holes are unplayable and another hole, a par four, is among the worst designed holes I've ever seen. Further, we couldn't even differentiate between fairway and rough. Beyond that, I don't think this course has ever been rolled. Riding around there in a cart is like being pushed over a washboard in a grocery cart.

Here's the kicker: the back nine is actually pretty nice! How on earth could these two nines even be affiliated with the same course? Unfortunately, the front nine is so God-awful horrible I can't give this course more than one star.

Cut the rough grass already!

This course is very pretty with unusual holes which I liked (Doglegs over hills for ex) and I liked the fact there were no Rangers to harass you. So many courses have Rangers which do nothing but harass the customers if they park to close to the green, play too slow, whatever. Rangers are the worse thing invented for courses. Speed of play was fine.

That being said, the main thing is MAINTAIN YOUR COURSE MAN! There are many fairways which are just ugly missing grass-They badly need to put in a sprinkler system in areas. But the Biggest Complaint BY FAR is CUT THE GRASS! On this course if you are 1 inch into the rough or even sometimes in the fairways you CANNOT find your ball Period. I spend soo much frickkin time looking for my ball which was either in the fairway or just in the rough that its not worht playin here. Guys behind us were getting frustrated (Understandably so) because our 2nd shot took forever. Well thats because we spent 15 minutes looking for my ball which when I found it was 3 inches in the rough to the right of the fairway and the grass is so long you wont see it unless you are right on top of it at the right angle. I duffed a shot once which went 20 ft ahead of me, than spent 10 minutes looking for it because I couldn't find it in the tall rough! (which was right by the fairway by the way). My Daughter hit one in thhe middle of the fairway on the 10th hole and we gave up and dropped another ball since I was tired of looking for balls in the fairway.

It was a nice course, friendly people, etc but wont come back until these guys learn to cut the grass lower. It was too frustrating spending so much time looking for balls which were in play but you can't find.

Very fun, accessible course

A fun course that is an awesome deal for the price and is suitable for just about any golfer. Nice greens, though difficult around them. Two par 5's to start which is not my favorite but you settle in eventually. Certainly worth the drive from downtown A2.

This course is great, but needs attention.

This course is challenging for intermediate skilled golfers with hills and dog-legs, but greens and fairways was not well maintained. There were no yardage signs on several holes. Rough was too deep compared to the other courses. Overall, it was great course and we had a good time.

Not very professional

I called, made a tee time two days prior to playing. Left them my phone number; which I confirmed the day I arrived. The morning I was to tee off, I walked up to the door and a sign was posted saying closed due to weather and course conditions. I drove over an hour to play this course and they did not even give me the common courtesy of a phone call to let me know that they had closed the course down for the day. When I met with the "Pro", he did not seem at all sympathetic or even offer to rectify the situation.

This course has some unique and challenging holes.

Ann Arbor CC is a good course because it has a little bit of everything. It has some simple and open holes, some tight holes (hit it straight), some challenging and a few "what were they thinking" holes.
It has a few greens that must have been designed when the designer was having a bad day. Steep slopes that you can't, or almost can't, get the ball to stop.
All in all a fun course.

Low Price unique course fast play

A great day!
The course was in good shape and it wasn't to busy out there. I'm not one for the back and fourth flat courses, and this was polar opposite to that. Every hole is pretty unique. One hole has a ridicules incline. Pretty tough for my first time playing. Couldn't beat the price and the pace. I'l be going back

The course has great view, very challenging, lots of hills and bumpy cart rides.

Staff are not very friendly, I told the staff I am from out of town and first time playing there and not much of instruction was given except for the first hole is at the bottom of the hill to your right..end of the conversation. area is very secluded, almost too private..I cancelled the next day reservation for another round. Will definitely not going to recommend to anyone especially an out of towner's one golfer we passed by-very friendly..

Snack Bar

I was in somewhat of a rush when I got to the course I was running a little late for my Tee time I waited for 15 minutes for a hot dog which seems a little long for me. And the hot dog was not good at all. The whole snack bar was badly organized and like I said the hot dog was not worth the wait or the money. Hot dogs should be pretty easy. Once I got on the course I did enjoy my time .

SUPER FAST

Flew the round in just over 3 hours with 3 people. I've played it a couple time in the last few years and this time it was in the best shape I've seen it in. Little bit of a bumpy ride through a few of the fairways, but i'm just happy how fast we played.
