Hidden Jewel
My first time here. Only had time to play front 9. Very nice, a challenge and yet fair.
Beautiful and immaculate. Golf Now made it a snap.
See u again.
A true "diamond in the rough"
This golf venue is a wondeful experience every time we play here. The superintendent must be a genius, given his ability to maintain the condition of the fairways and greens, despite the early season. Easy to find and hard to drive by without playing a round. Please keep it up!
challenging terrain
Beautiful course to play in the fall,, rolling terrain, great weather and color, not crowded in autumn when I drive north to Manistee for a few weeks.
Should be on every golfer's play list
Bear Lake Highlands is a fun, yet challenging diverse 18 holes of Northern Michigan style golf. This course was in impecable condition with even the rough green from edge to edge. Most of the greens are large, plush yet quite fast that roll true to each other. Hint: try to score well on the first two holes (pars 5 and 4), because the golf gets challenging but fair after that! Golfers of all skill levels will enjoy this beautiful, well groomed course. No beverage cart, food service or alcohol beverages, so bring your own if you desire.
Great course with Great views!
My son and I had a great time and the weather was perfect. Just the right mix of rolling hills, lakes and trees. Even some apple trees full of fruit. I didn't play great but the next time I will play better. One improvement would be GPS in carts but coarse was marked well & maintained great.
course was in good shape..
they could some new carts, our's with held together with duck tape and it still rattled, but the course was in great shape.
LOVE this course!
Staff is very friendly and accommodating. Course was in VERY good condition. Greens were fast. Weather was PERFECT and so was the price through Golfnow.com - $12 for the round!
Will play here again... and again
Good value
Had a nice time
No problems with pace of play on a Monday afternoon,
Not a long course but challenging, greens are large and well kept
Fun Course
Had a great time...
The greens are a little tricky, and challenging.
We had a few tree issues as well...
Great shape!!!
I have played this course many times before and I have to say it's in the best shape I've ever seen. The tees are alittle uneven but soft for driving. Fairways are perfect for hitting off of. The greens are in the right shape for landing a good (or bad) shot from the fairway. They don't just hit and roll off and speedy for your putts. Wide fairways with hardwoods surrounding the perimeter, water on several holes, good elevation challenges on several holes and not over done with sand traps. Well watered, no dormant grass on this course. Great Golf!!!
nice course with excellent care
This is a hilly, traditional course in EXCELLENT playing condition. There has been little rain in the area for the past two weeks but you wouldn't know it from the well irrigated and manicured tee boxes and greens. Fairways were excellent and staff was cordial. Would recommend to beginning as well as low handicap golfers as the course is set up for all levels of golfers. Greens were not easy to read but fair
Bear Lake County Highlands
Great course for the average golfer--water comes into play on several holes. Rough is not overwhelming in most places although the wooded areas can give you problems. The greens are in excellent condition. All together a great 18 holes with just the right difficulty to keep you interested.
Beauty and Uber-Value!
Had an excellent time playing this course. We got a great deal and the course was in great shape. Their were a lot of scoring opportunities as well as challenging play. We will definitely be back again! The only Suggestion I would make is for the course to offer alcoholic beverages. I would have gladly paid for an overpriced beer or three!
alot of elevation changes
keep ball in fairway and you will have no problems a lot of hidden water holes fun to play.
Just enough of a challenge
Bear lake gave the average golfer just enough of a challenge. it has the feel of a northern Michigan course, but at the same time it is fair for the average Joe. the fairways are narrow and you rarely get a flat lie. Greens are somewhat fast and it seemed like every putt broke. Nice elevation changes and a great view of the lake on a couple holes. I would go back.
Fantastic golfnow deal
Perfect day and excellent price!
Will continue to come back using the golfnow website!
The course is in really nice shape
This course has a real nice mix of holes. Some hills, some water, some narrow fairways and some wide.
My only problem with this course is the carts. They are old, warn out, dirty with ripped seats and stiff clutch. I know carts are expensive and not all courses can afford new ones but these are really old. No windshields, and seats are not just torn but there are chunks missing!!!
Even if you can't repair or replace them they could at least wash them. Cubbies Are very dirty. Some were muddy. Not much effort going into cleaning them at all and there is really no cost to keeping them clean. It just seems lazy!!
Too bad too, this course is beautiful!! We love to play it but hate to brush your thigh against torn foam and plastic when you have shorts on playing a round.
nice course
the course was really pretty good condition except for 4 greens that were aerated.
Average Joe Course
Passed by the first time, couldn't tell by the small sign and the small clubhouse if it was the golf course or a roadside motel. Wasn't very busy so the pace was solid. Decent course conditions, greens were true. A few fairways were pretty choppy and not well maintained. A few nice challenging holes with a lot of trouble. All in all It was a decent course but nothing outstanding. Just your average course with a couple nice lake views. Will be the only time I visit the bear lake highlands.
For this time of year a great course
Play many courses in my area.. With, maybe one exception, this is the best for both conditions for price. Highly recommend this course for the average golfer.
