Fairways dried out!
Played both courses, North was in better shape than south! South was dried out and lots of patches ! Greens were spongy and slow. Grounds crew would mow grass but not rake up the excess grass!

The beer cart was not working, Tee boxes were a complete disaster, and the fairways and greens were not in good shape. To top it all off it was very over priced. Last time at Stowe Acres unfortunately

Look elsewhere - better bang for your buck. Multiple greens covered in geese droppings and others wrecked by black fungus. Par threes are all straight and essentially the same distance. Layout is not overly interesting. Better options in the area layout and upkeep-wise. Save your money.

Longest 9 hole round ever
I played 9 after work and the pace of place was awful. It was so clogged up on the 6th hole the group ahead was actually sitting down on the fairway waiting. It took 2 hours and 50 minutes to play 9 holes. The layout is fun and the conditions were good, but the pace of play was very disappointing

Course was pretty dry
Course was a little dried out due to heat wave. Greens were a little bumpy.
Love this course -- Will play here again and again
I love this course. Spread out. Pace is usually great. You can use every club in your bag. Plenty of holes to swing the driver with room to miss on both sides. (On the South course. The North Course is a lot more narrow.) Good elevation changes. Staff is very nice. Carts run well. Greens were a tiny bit slow, but still in great condition. Good value for the golf experience that you're getting.
A Once Proud Course is No Longer Worth Playing
I played Stow Acres North for the first time since the early 1990s. When I last played the North course it was widely regarded as "the" course to play in Central MA. How the mighty have fallen. The course is only a shadow of its former self. The fees and fairways were in deplorable condition, with more brown than green spots, abundant bald patches in the middle of the fairway, and tee boxes that were chewed up. To add insult to injury, my wife and I paid $84 for nine holes with a cart. I know that a portion of the South course had been sold to the town, likely because the operation has been in financial distress, but obviously there is gross mismanagement here. I played Juniper Hill the prior night--another 36-hole complex--and in stark contrast to Stow Acres, the course I played (Lakeside) was positively pristine, with well-conditioned fairways. Sorry Stow, but I'm not coming back. Too bad because the North Course is both aesthetically appealing and challenging.
Thank you for reviewing the course. We would like to apologize for your recent experience.

Old reliable
I've golfed at Stow many times. This time it was the South course. It was a hot, sweltering day, so the course was not too crowded. Naturally you are going to find some dried out dormant patches of grass ,but with the excessive heat and lack of rain, that is to be expected. I'd prefer the greens to be slightly faster, but they are fine. Some tee boxes are not in pristine shape , but you are using a tee, so it should not affect your shot. Stow might not be the best conditioned course, but it is always in reliably good condition. A fun, fair and interesting course to play. Staff is always friendly. Last, but not least, after an entertaining round, the 19th hole patio is a relaxing place to rehash your good and bad shots, with a nice cold. beer.
Review from years ago
I played here years ago on a Wednesday late morning. Front 9 took 4 hours. Groups stacked up on all tee boxes. After 9 holes went in and asked for my money back for the back 9 as I had to do something in Connecticut where I live. Also, ca not play that way.
The clerk pointed to the sign NO REFUNDS NO RAINCHECKS.
I pointed to the sign PACE of PLAY STRICTLY ENFORCED and asked are we on track to play a 9 hour round? is that the pace of play?
needless to say I got no refund and will never go back and will tell everyone I know
