Book it!
I don’t give 5 star reviews very often but The Meadows deserves 6 stars if I could give it to them. One word, immaculate! The greens will test you. They are big, multi leveled yet inviting. I am a senior woman and my drives top out at 180 now. My hubby and I play the forward tees together. We loved having the opportunity to hit irons into them. I birdie the first hole, a par five. I got to hit my 3rd shot with a 9 iron. That’s unheard of normally. Of course, I can’t speak for those of you who play from the tips but I’m sure you’ll love the course. There’s 5 sets of tees so choose yours wisely. The Meadows staff is amazing. Crews were out working in force on a course that looked like it couldn’t possibly need anything. I live 4 hours away from The Meadows but there’s no doubt I will play it again. It’s perfect.
Helpful
Starters did and excellent job of helping us with an extra person listed on tee time. Playing partner does not like golfing with others yet as she is just starting out.
Thanks so very much.
Nice course
Great course but also pretty difficult. The fairways are very tight and if you aren't accurate good luck finding your ball. Fun course to play a 4 man scramble but im not sure Ill be back to often. Other challenging courses that are a little more forgiving in the area.
The Meadows at Grand Valley State University
This is one of the best conditioned courses in Michigan.
Great greens and fairways.
Kudos to the maintenance team.
Ok course
If you don’t live in the Allendale area it not worth the drive. Plenty of other courses on the way with better value.
Junk
Wet, sloppy, it was awful. Tried to play 18, 4.5 hours in had to skip the last 3 holes because I could not stay out over 5 hours for 18. They paired us up with 2 singles. It took forever. I was a little upset that I didn’t realize the golf discount was for noon or later tee times.
The guy at the counter wasn’t very helpful with having a 10:40 tee time. It was late October and the course was all hacked up and rough cut down for winter and on and on. A common courtesy would have been to accept the certificate the hour 20 early. That isn’t even what made it so aweful. They were slow and it was a trashed course. Horrible. I’ll never go again. I’d rather pay and play at the many great courses nearby.
Very Nice Cours
I play The Meadows 2 or 3 times a year. The course has an outstanding rating and is currently rated as #23 in the US for college courses. I have found that the course usually has very good conditions and is fun to play.
I do find that the rough is often very long and very easy to lose balls close to greens and fairways. Also, the deep rough is very penal, usually a lost ball for sure. Since I don't play the course that often, I am not always sure the best direction and required distance to avoid the most dangerous spots. I like the concept of deep rough, but would prefer a thinner, wispier rough, that would still be penal, but you could play out of. there would still be about a 1/2 stroke penalty, but less lost balls and time spent looking for them.
Course was tough but fair.
Heavy rain just before tee time. Greens drained well, not so the fairways. Still had fun. Beautiful course.
Great Course, Poor Pace of Play
Unless you're retired or taking time off to play early tee times don't make dinner reservations after golf. You won't make the reservation.
The Meadows in Quail Ridge both have poor drainage. I don’t know what the problem is but they’re both what is crap but they’re both very nice
OK I’m playing Quail Ridge down and ETA. That’s a DEA my ETA. ADA Siri just doesn’t get it anyway yeah I played the college course yesterday out in Allendale. Very excellent shape just very wet and today were playing quail ridge down near grand rapids the Eastside. Very same thing I don’t know why they don’t put in good drainage in his modern courses I know Well Pilgrims trains better than this there’s something about the soil or whatever it is I don’t know but ma’am it is wet and we only had frost last weekend. We had a couple inches of rain so but anyway yeah I played cheap. They’re 13 bucks medals today. The wife and I each paid 30 but still very nice out joy the foliage, the college kids are all over the place were as Quail Ridge just some small old golfers , but we’re having a good time then some young ones are slow till they gotta get down and look at their butts just like they’re Cupka or tiger or anybody else thinking that they’re pros but they can’t do crap by the $500 drivers and I can’t hit it straight you know what it’s all about my wife is sitting here just just laughing at me anyway already left a review so this is my second one so it’s just extra Burbage on my Siri message me and Mrs. Siri so I will see you next time
Probably best greens I’ve played all year and it is the end of October has not been aerated yet. Caught a great deal on Golf now for only 13 bucks wit
OK it is her kind of a rainy Thursday, October 19, 2023 and I have not played the Meadows in a couple years so now that I have joined golfpass I had a big discount so the net cost of me playing here was only 13 bucks can you believe it so anyway I’m out here by myself kind of rainy conditions I must say the fairways and greens are the best shape. I’ve played all year of any course they have not been aerated yet, so they rolled through. I love the flag sticks very much, the same as Pilgrims Run solid, flag sticks because of the wind that they get here. I’m surprised they don’t have a cover over the back of the golf clubs for the rain. That’s surprising on these Japanese built probably Yamaha golf carts but other than that there’s not a whole lot to complain about lots of young college students. Here what you would figure yeah it’s busy even on a Thursday so in the rain .
This college is unbelievable how fast it’s grown in the 30 years I’ve been here but I’ve heard rumors that the scores might go bye-bye but I don’t know about that don’t hold me to that. Yeah it’s definitely a top 25 college course and I got about a conditioning is great. If you know the layout you can score well here go off the right tees I’m playing the whites which is just under 6000 which is perfect and I’m glad I did not bring the wife here because it’s a it’s a toughy Him my buddies don’t like it they’re not big links people but it doesn’t bother me so much on my plate. Those links a Bowen Lake a lot this year, but this is my first time here in two years and when you can score a deal like that on Golf now you better take it .
This was by far the nicest starter I’ve ever had David kudos to David whoever sees this friendliest starter I have ever had at the metal Meadows
