Tough but fair
The course is fair even if you hit a poor shot you still have a good chance to save par
play the loon
If you haven't played the loon you have to try it. Its in great shape almost any time. you'll go back again.
Poor service
I was shocked with the way the bar staff acted when I asked if there was ever water on the course. She said "no, but there is a beer cart girl." I then said we didn't see her and her response was, "well her cart can't make it up most of the holes on the front." I recommended a new cart for her and got nothing but attitude back. All in all not impressed as other courses and there should be water out or a cart girl that comes to is in the heat we were playing in. I recommend any course but this one in Gaylord!
Worth the time to play
Excellent condition. Greens were immaculately trimmed. Challenging but playable. Only drawback was the pace of play due to several large groups of foursomes. My wife and I played the front nine twice to avoid the slow play which is great because I like the fron better but both are beautiful.
GREAT COURSE! Very Friendly Staff!
Course is in excellent condition, and it was a great day for autumn golf.
This course is beautiful.
The Loon is a fun course to play. Not too difficult for an occasional golfer, like myself.
Excellent course very playable for all types of golfers
Excellent had a great time would play again up north golf is great
Very, Very Nice Golf Course!!
I felt I got a very good deal at a great golf course. I was treated very well and had a great time! Thanks Much.
great course!!
Excellent course, was raining on and off all morning so that didn't help the time it took us to get around the course, there was a group of 8 guys ahead of us(2 foursomes) that seemed to be having trouble in the rain. But we didn't mind, had a really good time. FYI, it is close to I75 so there is some freeway traffic noise but no big deal unless maybe its Friday afternoon and there's a ton of traffic coming north.
Great
Very good Northern Michigan course, many chutes off the tee, greens large and undulating
Golf at the Loon
Great course& the other two golfnow players we were paired with were wonderful partners. Nice weather to boot- made for a fine outing. Thanks to the team at Golfnow!
Great course for the average golfer.
My husband and I came up to Garland for a mini golf vacation and decided to add " The Loon" to our list of courses to play.
We arrived just a little before our tee time and were greeted enthusiastically by the friendly counter girl in the pro shop. After spending a few minutes on the range, we headed out to the first tee. We really enjoyed the course for its well kept fairways and greens that were receptive but not too speedy. While this course may not have some of the spectacular views and elevation changes that other courses in the area possess, it is a very comfortable course for the average golfer. The homes and condos along the course are beautiful and it looks like a great place to live or to rent and play/stay.
Get ready for surprises
We had a good time at "The Loon" if you have never played there before read the score card.. The tee boxes were not in very good condition, the fairways were ok it has a few "trick" holes but fun to play. The staff was great the cart guys met us at the bag drop and took really good care of us and had answers to all of our questions. And helpful on directing us on where to go. They were there when we got off of the course also to clean our clubs. Good job all around guys.
Pleasant golf experience in a scenic setting
We played on a chilly (65 degree), cloudy Saturday July afternoon. Help staff courteous without being overbearing. Maintenance of the course was good, but not superior, but appropriate for a variety of players. (We are not high-end players by any means.) Nice northwoods Michigan setting with a variety of hazards (wetlands, some water, moderately trapped). Have eaten at the restaurant there before, did not this time, but it has nice cuisine and a terrific view of the 18th green!
Fun course, but pace of play destroyed our enjoyment.
This was not our first experience at this course and each time, the slow play was a problem.
Very difficult course for weekend players.
The front 9 was so difficult and we lost many balls in the tall rough. The last 9 was more pleasurable, but very challenging.
The course was in great shape
Played the Loon Golf Resort many times and this play was the BEST.
fair but challenging
The course was in very good shape and has some holes that are challenging and others that provide opportunities for pars and birdies. Club selection is key.
Very enjotable.
Great value!
Loved everything about the course except there was NO marshall. We played as a 2-some and the 4-some in front of us didn't let us play through til the turn. We then proceeded to play through 17 before even SEEING a group in front of us.
Other than that it was a WONDERFUL golf experience we will be back!
Well maintained, fun course to play. I try to make it an annual course for our up north trips.
This is a fun course to play. I played with my 80 year old mom, dad, and brother. We all had a great time. The course is challenging, but fair. Make it a part of your northern Michigan golf experience.
The first 9 holes were fine but the back nine was so slow we had to quit after the 13th hole. The slow play was very bad & no ranger. At one time there was 4 of us on one hole. One group on the green, the second on the fairway waiting and the group ahead of us waiting to tee off and us also waiting to tee off . Never experienced that before! Not sure we will ever try there again.
