Awesome!
I have to say, we were first group off that morning and what a beauty course! Nice challenging shape shot holes! The pro shop staff was the best out of the 5 courses we played this long weekend. Very friendly and really personable! Will be back next year and will stay at the villas!
Slow play
Course was in good shape as always. We were the first tee time behind an outing of inexperienced players, so play was painfully slow. Would have been nice to know that. We could have easily taken a later tee time and had a better experience. This course is otherwise usually dependable and in good shape, and is a good value, so we will definitely be back (but will ask about outings when we book!).
Pace of Play & Management
Was very excited to play this course this past weekend, and after our experience, we would never return. Even before we teed off the starter let us know that there were a few groups causing the course to back up, but they have addressed it and pace should be fine. After hole 6 we waited on every tee as the pace was glacier slow. At the turn we were advised by a staff member that a foursome was two holes behind causing the pace of play to be backed up. Most courses would make those players skip a hole ahead to make sure the pace of play with steady, but sadly they did not. 5 hrs 10 mins was way too long, not to mention we were never advised the back 9 could not accommodate the beverage cart. Overall poor experience. Save your time and play nicer courses in the Grand Rapids area.
Played both of the Gull Lake View courses on the same day. Started on the East and then played the West. The two courses felt quite different from one another, with the West course being more open on the front 9, and elevation changes coming into play on the back 9. Although overall I think the East is a great course, I think the back 9 on the West was my favorite 9 holes on the property.
CONDITIONS: The course was in good shape. The greens rolled well and were true. The fairways and tee boxes were in great shape, as were the bunkers.
VALUE: Received and “all day play” rate which I thought was a great value, and would (will) definitely do again!
LAYOUT: Played the White tees (6,059). The front 9 has a few doglegs, but for the most part is bunch of straightaway mid-length par 4s. The par 5 #5 requires a good drive. The #6 hole is a long par 3, but provides room to miss. The back 9 is nothing like the front. Starting with the downhill #10, you get elevation changes on almost every hole. #12 is an uphill approach shot. And holes #14 thru #18 all use elevation to challenge your shots. #16 was maybe my favorite, being a “less than driver” par 4 that you don’t want to be on the right side of.
If you’re okay with a lower body workout, this course could be walked.
STAFF: The pro shop was very helpful.
PACE: Went off as a single, and had 2 separate 3somes let me play through. Thank you!
Love the electric golf carts
Played on Memorial Day. The West course didn’t seem very busy for a holiday. We are slower golfers and didn’t feel super rushed.
The electric golf carts are really nice here. We will definitely return to play the East/West courses because they are fun, but also because of the electric golf carts. We don’t want the gas fumes around during pregnancy.
Love the electric carts
The back 9 is more challenging! Lost a few good balls back there
Gorgeous early august early 7am round
The course is in absolute pristine condition. I’ve played the west several times and I had beat the morning foursomes on this day with a 7am start. Sunrise beautiful morning dew everywhere. They were cutting the course that day lawn mowers everywhere but that didn’t bother me one day when you se the beauty of the course. The west like it’s sister East offers a lot sand, woods, water, and traps but the fairways and greens well protected were in awesome shape. Will play again and again all of the Scott family courses are where I go to play to treat myself.
Enjoyable
Enjoyable challenge. A little more water features on the front nine would make for an increase in challenge and in scenic value.
