Rolling Hills Golf Estates

I had just found out about Shadow Ridge existence a couple months ago when researching Donald Ross courses in Michigan. Played the old Elks Highlands course several times when they went public before closing and enjoyed it immensely after watching senior pga tour play there in early nineties when we moved here.
Kent CC is D Ross designed but private.
There are some DRoss courses in Detroit area, most private.

Well thankfully this 9 hole hidden gem built in 1916 is open to the public now after being Ionia country club private. Thanks Herbrucks!. You will not be disappointed playing here, so much character exudes. Played the black tips and even though only 3000 yards it was a real challenge, # 11 a 242 yards par 3!
Wife absolutely loved it.

Ok for the former Rolling Hills now east nine of Shadow ridge it’s a nice contrast and warmup for the Ross nine. Nice tree lined few holes with big elevation after a diabolical cart path mountain traverse ride under the road is quite impressive. There are no sand traps on this 9 so roll it on and you should score well here.
We paid $38 each senior for 18 w cart which is a great value with the historic Ross nine included. Thankfully the Herbruck’s ( chicken farm fame) salvaged this gem and I recommend getting here.

Also Alibi restaurant is rated high and did not disappoint also.
Ever since Elks Highlands closes I was in mourning but now have my Donald Ross course go to. They just don’t make them like this anymore.
I read DR designed it for Governor Green of Ionia when he was doing Oakland Hills. The old huge trees should be awesome soon in the fall. Cool old water tower on 17th but bell doesn’t ring, rusted.

I've golfed this course a few times and have enjoyed it every time. Staff is friendly and course was well kept. Greens are quite a bit slower than Im use to, but a good all around course.
