A classic example of midcentury design

Robert Trent Jones led a movement in golf course architecture that shaped the game in America in the latter half of the 20th century.

Experts may disagree about the implications, but there's no denying that Point O'Woods is a textbook example of Jones' philosophy. Medium-width fairways lined by trees reward expert driving, and large, undulating greens put pressure on a golfer's lag-putting abilities. Fairway bunkers often dictate strategy and greenside bunkers punish poor execution. As with most private clubs (Note: non-members can access it if they stay in an on-site cottage), conditions are great and if not for an unusually rainy spring and early summer in the region, the course would have played beautifully firm. Standout holes include the wood-and-pitch par-4 8th, the Redanesque par-3 9th and the par-3 17th, which plays over a pond.
