Nice little course
I decided to try this course out on a Hot Deal. While I'm usually a solo golfer, I want to make it known here that they do group you up with other Hot Deal buyers (in my case a twosome). The two guys in my group were great, but I want to caution anyone evaluating a Hot Deal to expect to be grouped up.
Pace of Play: I golfed on a Tuesday morning/afternoon and it was PACKED. I think a league was finishing up or something along those lines. As other reviews have indicated there was some slow paced play. I didn't experience the severe wait times that other reviews have alluded to, just waiting for a log jam of groups to get moving. Once we got done with the first par 3 (Hole #3) it opened up and we hardly waited at all for the rest of the front. Once we made the turn, we had no one in front of us and no one behind us. Also something I didn't really see mentioned (and I'm not sure if it's like this all season): Carts are path only. When you have a bunch of retirees who have to walk all the way across the fairway to play their shot, you're going to experience more wait times. I also want to point out that during my round I crossed paths with a ranger no less than 4 times. When on the front they were extremely apologetic for the slow play we were experiencing and assured us they were doing what they could. In the end, I feel like the course staff did what they could to keep things moving.
Course Condition: Because it's cart path only for carts, you don't have too many areas that are torn up from driving. Bunkers are kept up fine, grass it trimmed well for the rough, fairways and greens. I'd say there were probably less unfilled divots on this course than you'd find at courses of the same price point. My big gripe was with the tee boxes. I have no idea how big chunks of earth are missing out of some of these boxes, but I had move my ball and reset a couple times to be level.
Course Layout: I think to compare to similarly priced courses, this one has an above average level of difficulty. You have your holes where you just kill the ball and get it to the green, but there also a few holes where you need to think because of the small creeks that crisscross some of the holes. Hitting a monster drive will put you in the water on a couple. This has more elevation changes than what I'm used to seeing at this kind of course, too.
To sum it up, it's a well maintained municipal course, but the first few holes really seem to set it up for a log jam. The round may take longer if it's "cart path only." It's more challenging than more courses of a similar price, and you'll likely be groups up if you're less than 4 people. Overall if you're looking to change things up it's worth a try!
First time
This was my first time playing this course and was pleasantly surprised. The course was in good shape and fun to play. Not super difficult but challenging enough to have fun. Can’t beat it for the money or proximity to where I live.
Good course
Good course, some challenging holes. Pace was poor on the front nine, but overall we had fun.
Michigan golf
Course was worth the money. However it was very slow and no one seemed to want to move people along. It was a long day
Absolutely amazing
Tbh this course is amazing. For the price it is a super good course. Our round took under 5 hours which is the perfect amount of time in my opinion. The carts are pretty nice with mini monitors on them telling you how far away you are from the hole so basically a built in range finder on your cart. If you’re in the area you have to try it out. The course is very fun and you won’t regret it. Also after your round you can stop over at the one under bar for food and drinks.
Weather cut us short
Rain ended our round after 4 holes. Course did not drain well. Greens unplayable. Facility and staff were great.
Awesome course!
The golf carts are sick because They show the distance to the hole. Also, if you don’t know where to go it has a map with a gps screen
First time at Idyl Wood 5/10
Idyl Wood is a great course with straight fairways and hard/fast greens. If you can hit the ball straight you will do well as there isn’t a lot of bending. The greens grass was very short, resulting in fast greens and tough bounces however, some of the pin locations made it more challenging with it being on a slope. The course condition was pretty solid as the tee boxes were nice as well as the fairways. A lot of older golfers seem to play here as that slowed the pace down a bit. Took me about 4:15 to finish 18. The course has electric carts with gps so that is a solid benefit as well. Overall, I am satisfied with the course and would recommend it.
Great shape for fall golf
The course is in great shape for golf in November. The greens are fast and are rolling true. The only thing you have to contend with this time of year is leaves. For most of the greens this was not an issue. It's more of an issue in the rough, which is where you shouldn't be.🤣 We finished our round in 4 hours.
First time playing this course and it was a lot of fun. Some challenging holes, but made it more fun. Especially the 12 hole. It was a dog leg left and it had a huge rough before the green. My only issue was that they was not a clubhouse for a beer and hotdog after the turn and the bat next door didn't open till after 11, same with the bev cart. Other than that it was a great course
Nice course just sometimes get lost, should carry a small map to show best path or route to follow to stay on course ! Overhead Monitor helps but often times doesn’t show trails .
