Great Course in the Area
We have some nice choices in the Battle Creek area and The Medalist is among the best.
The GPS units were updated this year so if you are reading complaints from previous years, you can disregard as the problem was fixed. The new gps units are nice and include ‘to the pin’ for the center values. The ads did not delay me more than maybe 15-30 seconds a time or two.
The course is one of my favorites because there are only a few holes adjacent to each other. Each hole is its own so you don’t see others and you don’t have to wait for someone on another hole to hit from your fairway. Players who tend to spray their driver will likely lose several balls.
The range is top notch and includes one of the few TopTracers in the state. You can have fun playing closest to the pin and long-drive contests along with practice data to fine tune your numbers.
My favorite part of the Medalist is that the staff never seems annoyed by someone like me showing up and “racing the sun” to get 9 or 18 in. Other courses in the area seem annoyed if the staff has to work a minute past sundown. The Medalist team is always welcoming and glad to get you out to the course.
Nice course but very slow
This is a very challenging narrow course that was in great condition. Unfortunately the pace was very slow. Had to wait on almost every tee box. The course could use a marshal to keep the pace of play. Hopefully this was an anomaly..
Always fun
The course was GREAT, I was bad :>)
Always a good time with friends.
Price is a bit more than I would normally pay, but GolfPass benefits keep my rates manageable so I can occasionally play this GEM!
Really good course, but pricy
The course was in really good condition, love the greens. Enjoy everything about this course except the price of food and beverage. It's really pricy. You'll want to eat and get your fluids before you go there.
PACE: I found this weird, but they sent me out as a single as a Saturday morning tee time. Generally on Saturday mornings you can expect to get paired up... but I did not (which is fine). Played behind a 2some and ahead of a 4some which allowed me to hit 2 balls and enjoy my morning.
CONDITIONS: Tee, fairways, greens, and bunkers all in great shape. My only feedback would be to cut back about 10 yards of overgrowth from the tree line. If your ball bounces to the trees there's no chance to find it, or play the "hero shot."
STAFF: Got me paid and out on the course.
VALUE: Other courses I played at this price have balls on the range for you to hit, or provide a warm-up bucket. Also, the GPS in the cart did not work. The course conditions were great, but given the (lack of) amenities I think the rate is a bit high.
LAYOUT: More blind tee shots, tight fairways, and forced carries than I care for. I'm sure this course is someone's "cup of tea," but it's not the kind of golf I prefer.
enjoyable experience
pace of play excellent. twosome no waiting. took 3 hours. Challenging layout. with difficult greens.
Friendly staff.
Hidden gem in Central Lower Michigan
The Medalist never disappoints. The layout is unique, reasonably challenging, while also fair. A couple of holes (notable #4) feel somewhat gimmicky, but overall the course is excellent. When we played (6/19/21), the course was in excellent condition and the greens were quick (which I prefer). The course is narrow in several placed, so control over aim and distance is paramount. To borrow an overused phrase, The Medalist has an Up North feel to it (tree lined, most holes stand apart from the others) and has some trick green complexes. The icing on top was that we played in 4 hours!!
Friendly staff.
Without a doubt this is absolutely the friendliest most customer service driven course I've been on in a few years.. Every employee we encountered was ultra friendly and accommodating. I couldn't have asked for more. I've had worst service at many country clubs I've been to. 5 stars.
Spring for
Conditions were pretty good for this early in the year. Staff andd fellow golfers were friendly. Nice track for the money!
Course Conditions (Greens)
Given the greens still have signs of aerating, the ball would not roll. But they were still charging sub~premium money to play. Should be charging less until the course conditions match the money charged.
Thank you for taking the time to rate The Medalist and we are sorry that our conditions didn't meet your expectations. We hope the next time we exceed your expectations and if not please reach out to our owner and we will definitely make it right for you.
Thank you for taking the time to review our facility. We are glad you enjoyed your time at The Medalist and hope to see you again soon.
