Need a ranger
We like this course but when we got there the reservation was not in their system and I had to show them the original reservation. Pace of play on fro t was great and then a foursome was soooooo slow on the back it was terrible.
Rental clubs
I was from out of town and needed rental clubs. They charged $25 for a mixed set of 1980 style clubs. Definitely bring your own clubs if you can. Other than that it’s a pretty awesome course.
Worth the money
When playing Whittaker Woods the emphasis is on the woods, alot of woods. But hit it straight and it's still a challenge. Course management is a must. The course conditions is almost always perfect, fairways have nice grass, greens are in great condition. As hard as the course looks its the one I usually score the best on, you have to think your way around. And my favorite part, the layout, no one from another hole is ever holding you up in your fairway, smooth pace of play.
Good course layout.
Because of an outing at our club, my wife and I decided to go back to Whitaker Woods. The course was in good shape for a public course. Pace of play was very good, since we played in under 3 hours. There was one twosome that we caught with 4 holes to go, otherwise we wouldn’t have seen anyone.
Definitely recommend this course.
Beautiful day in Michigan
The course is in great shape and much more enjoyable when played from the right tees for you game. The seniors I was with had a great time from the silver tees. I had a great time from the whites and the guy with the same handicap as me had an insufferable round from the blues. The beverage cart girl twice waved back at us and drove past us?! The fees are a little steep for the area and the guy who checked me in was pretty gruff compared to everyone else I’ve ever dealt with there.
Fine course but a bit pricey for the area
Whittaker is a fine course but I think is a touch too expensive. But the course conditions were very good and it is filled with relatively exacting holes. It rained the night before we played, so the course was soggy and wet.
As we were walking in, we were greeted by the cart folks who were very friendly, as were the crew in the pro shop. Many tree lined holes, especially on the front side and doglegs that are challenging to play. The back nine is a little more open and fun to play. No. 15 is a cool little par 3 over water, and the final hole bends around to a green that looks like it is in the middle of a lake.
Would love to play it again but even $10 or $15 less seems like a more appropriate price range. It is likely the best course in the area and a worthy track.
The sand traps were pretty hard. Not much sand cushion.
Accommodating staff
Thanks to Google Map I got lost twice and had to call the club house for directions, I was a half hour late for my tee-time and the staff still accommodated me and allowed me to still play, even though they were still fully booked.
A HIDDEN GEM -- THATS PUBLIC
We were staying in SW Michigan for the week and were planning on playing Harbor when our plans had to change to stay a little closer to our air bnb. Had a club pro recommend this course as a great alternative. It did not disappoint. Staff was helpful, and their food was excellent. Course was in fantastic shape. Front nine has tight fairways and is a challenge for shot makers. Back nine opens up, and has some real dog legs to keep the guys long off the box close. Greens were in great condition and rolled true. A top to bottom excellent experience.
Great challenge
Really found this to be a great experience. Got a Hot Deal and it was excellent value. By the way, senior pricing (over 62) was really nice.
Pleasant Surprise
The course was in great shape. It’s very challenging but we’ll layer out. The paths through the woods are great fun. I’d definitely play here again.
Worth the Drive
Came from south suburbs of Chicago and this is a hidden gem in New Buffalo. Brought 3 clients with me and both the course and dining are excellent.
Above average
Above average--needs some work in spots---seems no course upkeep my day---traps not freshly raked---greens had tree junk on them and just needed someone out there blowing them off once in a while----no water set out no ballwash but could be a covid thing--hopefully that changes soon---we were parched by the turn so get some water etc for front nine. itd be nice with trouble just off fairways ALOT--that some areas get cut and cleared out a bit more--this is not a course for a sprayer of the driver,so those whiny pga pros wouldnt go for this course----staff friendly--golf cart was nice--new/reworked paths are eventually needed lots of humps and dips in them---areas around the green were in nice shape
Greens are terrific
Course layout gets a little gimmicky on the back but the greens are in great shape which makes it fun . I cruised through playing as a single on a chilly but not cold Saturday am . Worth the drive and the time, one thing range balls were some of the dirtiest I’ve seen in decades .
