The Doster
Course is well kept except for holes 6 and 7 are using a fake green at the end of the fairway to help the original greens be resurfaced (original greens look fine) . Offer $5 off or notify golfers at check-in
Sunny day at Lake Doster
West Michigan is having a drought currently. The drought impacted course conditions, and irrigation looked to be struggling to keep up. We didn’t think this would impact us, but it made locating our ball difficult at times, as everything appeared very “bright / white / yellow / brown”. Also negatively impacting our ability to locate out ball was clover its white flowers. Someone also drove the course and had dropped marshmallows, which was cute at first, but by the 18th hole had grown old.
Due to the drought, things were dry and dusty.
Carts were gas powered, and wife is pregnant, so we weren’t thrilled with the fumes. It was a faster golf cart that seemed noisier / jerky - overpowered for the job. Cart was a little dirty and could have been washed down.
Some of the greens had clover outbreaks and weird patterns / dry spots - but mowed short. There was vandalism on 2 of the holes, which resulted in temporary tees.
The course is a little expensive for the conditions.
We played at 2PM and it was quite busy during checkin and at the bar.
Despite this, there are some fun and interesting holes. I could see someone potentially staying here to golf in West Michigan. It’s somewhat close to US-131 and looks to have a lot of rentals.
Potential is there
This course has so much potential to be really good; it has a great layout and variety in the holes. However, it deals with the same problems any course with mature trees has. Tee boxes on the front are in really bad shape. Not giving players a heads up there are temporary greens on the front is also a big negative. Definitely not worth the price with shape it is currently in.
Great shape considering how late in the year we played.
a good fall test
a couple t boxes in need of repair but overall course was in better shape than last year and continues to be a mixed bag difficulty the par 4s have some length so distance off the tee is a premium for the length of these holes for par score.
Needs some TLC
The only thing that saved this course was the shape of the greens. Tee times are booked way too close together to squeeze as many golfers in as possible. Round took nearly 5 hours for just two players. Around the greens and the even some of the in play areas are dead and hard pan. Gravel traps have no sand in them. Overall not impressed since my last visit. Until I hear of improvements I can skip this track.
Tough but fun course
I really enjoyed the course. It was tough but fun. A couple tee shots you really had to thread the needle. The fairways & greens were in great shape despite having heavy rain the prior few days. Will play it again.
Course was extremely wet. Poor drainage. Grass needed to be cut.
Value for the money
A great muni course from time to time. Not the best ever but certain not the worst. Intresting holes with a course that is in decent condition. How recommended when price is right
Good Time
Love the layout and great challenge at a great price .if like playing hill course this one for you. Definitely a challenge for even the good players. Elevation is good and all green have sloop in them.
