Tuff coarse
Nice coarse lots of blind holes so it's hard to figure how far to hit the ball. It's a coarse you have to play more than once
Nice course, strange layout
Everything was good except for the new layout change. There are now 4 par 5s and 3 par 4s on the front nine. If I remember correctly the back nine had 1 par 5 and 2 par 3s. If you can get past the strange hole arrangement, I recommend the course.
Fun diverse course
Definitely a course I will need to play again and I think will play better the more I play. Course that is fair but will punish you for poor shots. Makes you think through the holes, not all of them are grip it and rip it, so makes you play a variety of shots.
It's just ok
In my opinion it's only worth the$25 we paid for it. I've played it a few times over the years and this time it was in a the best shape I've ever seen it. That said, I don't think they put a lot of effort into the course and it subsidizes the private course next to it. The majority of people who play here are hackers and don't fix ball mark, rack traps and fill divots. Slow play is the norm. Staff is nonexistent and the marshals just drive around with little to no authority. The guy in the pro shop looked bored and wasn't friendly. Seemed put off by my Golf Now deal.
If you want to play a dump, go here or Bald Mountain. If you want a great golf experience, go play the Orchards in Washington which has hosted US Open qualifiers and isn't much more money without a deal.
New Course Layout
I don't think I'm a fan of the new course design. The first hole is now a difficult par 5. With no driving range, this makes for a challenging start. Although the layout is different, you still do not pass the clubhouse at the turn. If you're playing 18 holes, you'd better pack a lunch. There is no cart girl or a halfway house. They do offer a drink machine after the 11th hole.
The course is in great condition. The greens roll true and are in much better condition than other courses I've played this year. The pace of play was excellent. Finished 18 holes in 4 hours.
Be aware of the bag boys while you're on the 18th green. They will come over to clean your clubs, then you feel obligated to tip even though I clean my clubs after every shot. Highly recommend the course.
Great challenge
This course has everything you want to see in a good challenge. Lots of water presence. Deep bunkers with hazard areas. Not your average everyday course. Beautiful brickpavers running thru the whole course. The greens are tough and fast. Pro shop staff can be a little on the uneasy side but that's normal.
This is a wonderful course that will test your skill
We highly enjoyed our round at Westwynd. First impression was excellent as we were welcomed and assisted by very friendly staff. The course was in very good conditions for this time of the year (first week of May) and one would expect (and hope) that it would be even better during prime season.
The course itself is demanding and forces you to play strategic and have good course management. There are a plethora of bunkers guarding landing areas AND greens. Many holes will force you to play target golf and you will find that approach shots to the green are often over 150+ yards into well protected greens.
The layout is memorable with many good stretches of holes, some hard and some forgiving, but always scenic and never too dull. The finishing few holes are excellent!
Greens were rolling quite well for this time of the year.
Westwynd, from course, facilities to friendly staff, have set a great impression on us, and we will definitely be back!
Great golf course for value
My third time there and I will be back again. Challenging course and always in good shape and the staff is always nice and helpful.
Bring your patience
At the 4 1/2 hour mark and only at the 12th hole I called it a day. Not a marshall or ranger in site. 5-10 minutes between each shot if not more. Staff had no apologies when confronted with this situation. Ridiculous
"Conditions"
Course is really good, conditions on that day were soemwhat questionable. ...in the 40's, low 50's, cloudy, and some rain. ....although weather wasnt the problem, all the clothes we had to wear, was. The price was what it should be since they have aerated the greens, weeks ago, and still haven't grown in....putting was terrible, unles you knew which way the ball was going to bounce.....but do have to say, only had 1 instance of looking for a ball in the leaves.
Great course
Westwynd is one of my favorite courses to play.
Normal rates are a little out of my range as a retiree, but the Golf Now and Fall rates makes this a great bargain to play at this time.
They have switched the two nines around for starting purposes. They said it is to bring the halfway house in to play at a better time.
They aereated the greens and fairways, but that did not cause much probems for us.
Great layout and beautiful surrondings. Check this course out if you get the chance.
Terrific Layout! Gorgeous Golf Course at a Fair Price. Must Play.
Interesting and varied layout make this a must play for even the casual golfer. Greens were in very nice shape. Fairways pristine along with nice tee boxes. Lots of bunkering shape the gorgeous nature of this course. Nice practice greens too. Golfnow discounts make this very, very affordable. Blackheath is great and this is just as nice or nicer. Shot 85 from the tips and still had a blast.
Scenic & Challenging
Really was a pleasure to play well laid out holes. Be careful but aggressive and you can score. If your to cautious those second shots will lead to may more. This course is a fair layout but it can beat you up as well. Unfortunately the pace of play was terrible, a Marshall drove around but that was all they did, never saw him once speed up a foursome. Hope to go back and lay a 4 to 4 & 1/4 hours round.
Value
The golf course was fine but it would have been cheaper for me to pay the senior rack rate than what I paid through golfnow considering the extra golfnow fee of $10.
A delightful challenge.
If you are off your game, this course will show you the faults. The greens are tucked away, and holes require a force carry to a challenging green.
That said, the course was a blast. After every hole I was wide eyed in anticipation on what the next hole will bring.
If I had to pick an area of improvement, it would be the sand traps. Some were pretty hard and not well maintained; however, with the amount of bunkers, it would take a lot of man-hours to keep all of them well maintained, so it's understandable.
As always, I'm looking forward to the next round there, soon.
Must play
Beautiful course and a lot of bunkers. Course design is wonderful. Hope to come and play again.
Great course
Great course but no halfway house or beverage course to help fight thirst.
Picturesque and unique
This is a very nice facility and worth a visit despite the somewhat remote location. The course is in excellent condition with challenging greens--two of them large enough to share pins for separate holes. No expense is spared including 18 holes of brick paver cart paths. The layout is picturesque and unique with lots of par fives and par threes on the first nine. My favorite--the hot dogs served on pretzel buns at the halfway house which is really after the 11th hole!
This course is challenging for good golfers.
Accuracy is key on this course for good golfers. This course does make you work if you are a beginner or average golfer. The course is beautiful in landscape with lakes and various birds and great vista's. Plenty of blind marsh or wooded and tall thick grass area's to suck up errand ball shots, so take plenty of extra balls if you sometimes hook or slice golf shoots.
Worth the play
Long holes, challenging greens, very fun course. One on the best in Oakland co
