Explore the course first
Weather conditions were great...course was soft from lots of rain the week before but in great conditions other wise...a suggestion if you haven't played this course before...take a half hour before and take a ride through of the course...lots of blind shots and hidden hazards.... course layout is great and for the average golfer really challenging
Solo Early Season Round
Went at midday on a Thursday and it was wide open. I played 18 in 2 hours flat and didn’t run into anyone else. A great solo round. Conditions were a 4/5 but I can imagine it’s a beautiful course by mid-season. Maintenance crew was out in full force so I can tell they really care for it and maintain it well. Layout was really fun & greens rolled fast but not a ton of break although they showed signs of being recently punched so it could have been an early-season thing. As others have mentioned, there is nowhere to get water while on the course so if you’re playing on a warm day be sure to bring a water bottle or two. Overall a fun course that’s well looked after.
Great course, pricey but worth it
Very nice course, challenging and always well-kept. It’s a little pricey for me to play it regularly (particularly in peak season), but it’s worth the money every now and then. Greens are tough but read truly, and the hazards keep you honest. Never tried playing from the tips, but I would imagine it could be an absolute beast from there! Definitely recommended.
Must play
Absolutely beautiful! Challenging but fun!! Love this track
Beautifully maintained and designed
Westwynd is a beautiful course that’s well taken maintained. The greens are great, and the fairways and in good condition. The staff was not the friendliest, but once out on the course they’re easy to forget about
No recommend
haeavy raining in’s Westwynd yesterday. So I can’t play just 7holes but course maneger told us stop play for maintain. But they don’t give me rain check. So I and my wife just go back to my house. Where is my green fees?
Very challenging but fun golf
If you are trying to test your game, i would recommend playing from the tips at this course. Great lay out, and great shape.
Slight disappointed
Only got 16 holes in after 5.5 hours, Marshall stayed he didn’t want to break up group of Canadian guys, moving slow and parting ahead of us
Marshall, Starter !
Love the course but confused on when to tee off. Had a tee time but nobody to start so just went off anyway. Caught a single and paired up but soon caught a foursome who drove their carts anywhere the pleased. Up to tee boxes ,in Native grass, inside the ropes, even on slope in front of a par 3 that tore up the face of the bank. This course is a quality track but needs more active course management. Did see the marshall on 16 3 hours into the round and all he did was drive by.
The foursome did let us play through at the turn mainly because they stocking up at the turn house.
Extremely scenic w/many forced carries & elevation changes, this very challenging course will test all aspects of your game. Beginners should look elsewhere. As a 1st time player, this low-hdcp traveler was very disappointed to learn upon arrival that they had just aerated & top sanded all the greens AND they did not offer any reduced rate as an apologetic gesture. I would have expected a proactive phone call informing me of such since I provided my phone # when I made the ttime 4+ weeks early. Nevertheless this layout - when in proper condition - is worth the trip to northern Detroit and worthy of 5 stars. BTW, in 30+ yrs of playing, I have never seen a paver stone cart path on a public course!
Stay Away Unless You Want to Get Punished!
This is the second time playing this course and I would not recommend this course. I am a 12 handicapper so not great, but not bad either. This course is so penal when you hit a slightly errant shot and very unforgiving, for a public course, it's no fun with blind hazards and tricked up fairways. After 9 holes you are in the boonies and not back at the clubhouse. Only redeeming feature is that it's picturesque. Never going back though.
Great Course BUT......
I find this to be one the most challenging golf courses in the are. Tee boxes fairways rough all was in excellent shape. The Greens however were not up to par. I found that most holes they were beat up especially around the holes therefore they did not roll true. This course you have to have played it once or twice to understand the spots you can place the ball and the spots you can miss otherwise I would advised to bring extra balls with you! For you will need them!!
Zero practice facilities
The one and only high end public course I have ever been to with non-existence facilities relative to golf.
It borders on ludicrous. The course itself is of championship caliber but there is no range, no chipping green and no bunkers on which to practice. The practice green is the size of a family room.
Horrible course conditions
Course was absolutely soaking wet and not maintained at all. Bunkers were full of water, maintenance personnel were just standing around. Stood in the club house waiting for someone to check me in for 15 mins before I just walked out and went to the first tee. Waste of $45
Tough. Course first timer
Strategic placement of shots required- beautiful course!
scarier than it looks
very, very difficult course, even from the forward tees. It certainly is a course you need to play more than once to get a feel for it. The greens were fast and undulating, however, it was about 97 degrees that day and we are seniors. That being said, I'm not certain I would recommend due to the fact there is absolutely no drinking water on the course - NONE - but of course you can buy a bottle of water for about 5 times what it would normally cost. We have played in this heat before and the courses we played always made sure we were hydrated...they even came out to the patrons with frozen bottles of water. The first and only comfort station is after hole 9, so you could be dead by then. Obviously they are only concerned with making $$$$ and won't even fill your bottles of water at the comfort station....I had to go into the ladies bathroom and use the faucet. Very disappointing.....for being so uppity and unwelcoming and pricy to boot. I can spend my money in lot better ways at courses that make me want to come back. Not so sure about this one......
Excellent challenge
This is an excellent course for golfers. Lots of elevation and challenges all over the place. Wouldn’t bring a novice here if possible!
