Hard as nails but very scenic
It's a real Golf course club selection is the difference between haven fun or Avery long day. Each tee box has a character of its own you can either step up or run the risk of losing balls though out the round. Each time I play this course I try to find a way to bet the designer layout. So much effort has to go into this course in order to shoot under par I really wonder how a golf pro would handle it.
This course has excellent, but stuff is not good
Our party was complained by the stuff 3 times " your play is so late" even if our playing time was less than 4 hours for 18 hole.
We are not happy and didn't play golf.
Greens?
Played here twice this year and it seems layout is always changing. It is a tough track and I suggest if you are a recreational golfer play the green tees or you will be in for a lot of aggravation. Recommend you also bring water and snacks because the turn house is closed. As for the greens,Some are in need of help and others are just down right challenging. Paired up with three hackers that made for a long day.Marshal tried to move us along. Also dress code a little relaxed. One guy had holey jeans and a rugby shirt. Really!
great conditions
cant fault the course conditions, they were fantastic. The layout is a little too tricked up. At least half the holes have a carry involved. If you don't have GPS, don't play this course.
Failed to crack my top 5 in the area and it's the most expensive
I had high expectations going into yesterdays round because Westwynd has consistently been the most expensive tee time to book the entire year. Unfortunately, my brother and I were disappointed in the way the course looked, felt and played. Westwynd lacked the beauty I was expecting to see at a course that holds itself with such a high standard. It was not manicured very well and was severely hacked up in too many spots to count. The greens were slow and beat up, the starter was hawking every 2 holes even though we were about the only ones on the course. There was no water at any of the holes, no cart person either. I did enjoy the difficult layout of course despite a gimmicky hole or 2. The sand traps were well groomed. Overall I think there are much better courses in the area for a much better price.
stupid difficult design
There are many things wrong with this course. Things like deep pot bunkers in the fairways, not fair. The greens are soft with foot print impressions all around the cup; also whoever is picking pin placement is an angry person who must hate golf and golfers. I have never seen so many tucked pins placed 6' from the edge of the green. The course has always been difficult, but now they have moved all the tees back, so the whites are now at the blues, and the blues are back where the champion tees used to be. So unless you hit your driver straight and pure 250+ yards every time, get ready for some long forced caries to greens that have no bailout areas. One of the worst is a par three that measures 190+ yards uphill with a forced carry and no bail-out area, ridiculous. Pace of play is slow because every group of golfers is looking for a lost ball or two. The first of two shared greens is dangerous. On multiple occasions I have been on the green putting and had a ball come flying into our group from another fairway. I have played this course many times but never again. I feel like they don't want golfers to enjoy themselves at The West Wynd.
Big course , accuracy needed
if you ever want to feel what's it like to play a championship course this is it. I would not recommend this course for high handicap golfers unless you want to just take in the scenery. This course demands examination of every shot for a good outcome. The course was in good condtion and it has a great design rewarding calulated shots. Now what I didn't like. The staff was not very nice at all. When I'm paying a little more money I expect a little more service. The gentleman in the pro shop seemed like I was an inconvenience. The starter seemed like he would rather be elsewhere. The ball washers were in disrepair and no water on the course anywhere .
There was no yardage cards or cart gps. Thank goodness were hard a scope and cell phone gps or we'd be lost. I'd play the course again but knowing what I know. I'd gave more reasonable expectations for the overall experience. I live in AZ during the winter and they bend over backwards to get the money for the level of money you pay at Westwynd.
Greens Damaged
This is one of my favorite courses to play in Oakland county. But I'm guessing due to rain and lack of changing pin placement, the green around the pind where in horrible conditions. Way to many ball marks, foot impressions and other bumps. Rest of the course was in great condition.
They need to figure out a way to get food/drink options after 9 holes since they changed the course configuration you never drive by the club house from hole 1 until 16.
Great Course but challenging
This is a great course with challenging holes and quick demanding greens
Holy Smokes!
This course is amazing, course conditions and challenging layout. Starts out with a par 5 that you have to split two bunkers off the tee if you want to reach the green in two. First time playing here and it was well worth the 2 hr. drive. Long par 5's and par 3's will challenge the best golfers. Good amount of elevation changes throughout the course. Pace of play is not bad since the greens fee is a bit higher but a fair amount of people out golfing. Would play again if the course was closer! A must play!
Gimmicke, no drinking water ,no cart (girl) no driving range no bathrooms
Need to play at least once to enjoy the layout .
My Pops played it for the first time (15 usga hdcp)
& struggled without knowing the lay-up areas & the marsh areas that hide some greens. 200 & 100 posts will help speed of play (150only)
Hidden Gem
If you are looking for a challenging course with character look no further. After playing about 20 some courses within a 30miles radius this one ranks #1.
It is a bit pricey but worth playing atleast once.
Heaven is around the corner!!!
This course is Heaven!! What else can I say? This course is beautiful and the staff is so friendly. Bring your happy self to this wonderful golf course and have the best time. Bring your best putting game!
Thank you

Very nice course, but needs a few things
Very nice course, scenic, challenging. It could use a halfway house that is manned and more bathrooms for women. There should be water available on the course in jugs if there is no cart person serving the golfers during the week! The only beverages available are on hole #10 from a machine. You'll need extra balls as there are quite a few waste areas to loose them in!
Needs work
The course has a lot of promise but needs serious work. The greens were in rough shape and the bunkers were some of the worst I have ever seen. Looks like they recently re-sanded them but the sand was just pushed to the walls in a very sloppy fashion and your ball gets hung up just below the lip. No manicuring was evident in some bunkers. The course itself has a nice layout but needs serious attention. They also don't have a practice facility which for me is a serious no-no.
Westwynd Golf Course
Nice course,, extremely busy for a Monday. Over 4 1/2 hrs. I booked on Golf Now got a slightly better rate over the rack rate, brought 2 more seniors with me to make a foursome & they got the same rate as me. Thus they got a better deal. Overall I would recommend the course, a few holes go back & forth. Above average conditions.
Beautiful course
Westwynd is a true beauty. The fairways are short and fast but the rough won't kill you. The course is well bunkered punishing off-line risky shots and making you think about playing position rather than gripping and ripping. The greens were the best I have seen in Oakland county this season and seemed to hold up well all day (we teed off around noon). The golfnow hot deal made this course especially worth it ($37/each) since it is nearly 50% off the regular price and the rate is comparable to many other area courses. One downside is the funky layout with four par 5s on the front but the course quality makes up for it. We definitely look forward to our next round at Westwynd.
Poor pace of play
We had a group infront of us that was holding not only our group but at least the two groups behind us up as well. The ranger came through once and asked us and watched us play but after we told him the problem he did nothing and drove off. The fairways and greens weren't in the greatest conditions in some areas.
westwynd
This course is very nice I would recommend it to everybody staff was rude and not helpful at all but the course was great
Westwynd...
The facility was very nice - course in great shape. This is not a beginners course as there is lots of swamp and deep bunkers. We found this one a challenge for sure! Hard par 4 and 5's. Wonderful course!! Will be back next year!!
