One MAJOR disappointment was the bunkers. Tons of rocks, both small and large in the sand traps. I had one shot in a bunker and my club face had a chip taken out of it due to stones. For a course with so many large bunkers, it would seem like it would take pride in having clean sand traps. If I worked there, the first thing I would do is go bunker to bunker and remove ALL of the rocks. Once someone takes the time to go through the course and remove the rocks from the sand, it will never be a problem again. Nobody wants to have to remove rocks just so they can hit a shot without damaging their club. Other than the sand being all but unplayable, the only other complaint would be the 9th hole blind approach to the green with poorly marked hazard areas mostly along the right side of the hole. The rest of the course was excellent. Good fairways and large greens. I would love to come back if it weren't for the bunkers.
Swampy scavenger hunt
This was our first time at this course. We paid for 18. We should have been told that the back 9 was flooded. It was a swamp actually. Ducks swimming on the fairway in places. Teed off on one hole and drilled my ball several inches into mud. Our cart even got stuck in the mud. Play was delayed due to these conditions but also because the back nine is marked horrible. Hole 12 is marked hole 3....basically rather than have 10-18 they used 1-9. Then changed some of the numbers. Being told this would have reduced frustration!! Very disappointed we paid for 18 as the back 9 was almost not playable.
Hole 9
Please change this hole. Move the green up before the burn. Maybe put a creek across the fairway. Just a mess of a hole. Blind shot. Can’t find balls off the green. Awful. Other than that the course is in great shape. Greens a big and nice.
Short but tight
Lots of tricky pin placements, blind shots, and narrow fairways. Well kept greens. Can par the course no problem with the driver still in the bag. Yardage was well marked but seemed to be underestimated. Everything played long.
Nice Course
Course has great views on the front 9! Only downfall to this course is the bunkers. The bunkers are designed very well and they’re plenty of them, but the condition of them are poor... new sand in those and this would be my favorite mid Michigan course so far!! All and all give it a play
The new from 9 is spectacular. Really wish they would put sand in their bunkers instead of gravel.
Great little course!
I play here a few times a year. Always a good experience. The greens roll very nicely.
Nice Course, Bad Traps
Over all the course is well maintained. A couple tee were weedy, but playable. The most important thing about this course is the HORRIFIC condition of the traps. Many looked like washed out Mud filled pits. I damaged a club hitting from one with a hidden 1.5 inch rock . I hit into 3 traps: 1st Hard packed (compressed sand), 2nt was the ROCK attack, 3rd I inspected closely and found lots of stones (1/4 to 3/8 inches), I took an unplayable lie drop. Sad because the rest of the course is okay.
You get what you pay for with this course
Greens were pretty slow and not in the best shape. Only one person working in the pro shop and wasn’t in there when I went to check in. Very nice though when he eventually came in. Bunkers were hard - some had a bunch of rocks. There was a family playing in front of us with 3 kids under the age of 8. Didn’t understand why they were out there skipping holes, etc. not a bad deal for what I paid ($26). Don’t know if I’ll go back.
Brookshire Golf Course
Student at MSU. I've played many courses around the area but this one was definitely not worth the money. I used golfnow to book the reservation and the people in the clubhouse didn't know what they were doing. We started off the back 9 and were very disappointed with a lot of the holes and how poor conditioned they were in. The front 9 was a completely different course with beautiful holes and very well kept.
Very poor
The condition of the course was terrible leaves everywhere and for $20 it's not worth it
Had a Great Time
On a hot day, we played till the rain came. Then we had fish dinner and beer.
One of my favorite
This is one of my favorite courses. The course is in great shape even with little rain this summer. Many different hole designs and challenges. The workers tend to be in the way and mow very close to you while hitting and the bar staff isn't very friendly but aside from that it's an awesome place.
Hello, j9saylor. Thank you for reviewing the course. Let us first start by apologizing for the poor experience you had during your visit. Your feedback about the course is important to us. We with the recent rain we are working to get everything up to par. We have projects ongoing to recover the fairways and greens from the water on the course. The current condition is by no means the standard we strive to achieve. We are going to escalate your feedback to our team so we can make improvements before your next game. We will continue to work towards an excellent experience by using your comment for guidance. Thank you for playing Brookshire Inn & Golf Club. We hope to see you again soon.
