Never Again
I will never come back to Green Oaks Golf Course in Ypsilanti. In fact, I wouldn't golf there again for free. And it's not that the course is bad. Although the fairways are generally very narrow and there's tree trouble everywhere, the greens were in decent shape and it has some interesting hole designs. My problem is the lack of oversight by management and the low golf IQ of the people who play there. Basically it's a free-for-all. I was playing as a single, which can be frustrating if the course is clogged up and no one lets you play through. The front 9 was busy, but I wasn't necessarily in a hurry. However I was right on time for my tee time at 2:30 but found that they had let a fivesome start at my time. Needless to say there's no starter. There was a ranger of sorts, but he clearly saw the fivesome and didn't seem to care. It seemed like he knew them, so that could explain it. It doesn't explain the second party of five I found myself behind on the back 9, after the first fivesome left after playing only the front 9. And these guys had no one in front of them at all. And they never even considered letting me play through. The bottom line is I'll gladly pay more to golf a course where rules apply and are enforced by management, and where the players have some consideration for others.
1st time playing it
shot an 88 from the white tees … if you want some doglegs in the course you play this has it … not severe but they are there ... sand traps guard all the greens and are groomed … all the greens had been plugged and filled in and mended so they were very receptive to your ball flight … unfortunately they were a tad slow but I'm guessing during the summer months they would be faster and more treacherous … pace of play was excellent
slowwwwwww
Great value
Lots of tight tough holes.
Greens in great shape, except not many people repair their divots.
Tee boxes could use a mowing.
Long round 4:50, Very slow, no ranger in sight,
Very busy, could use a ranger, big time.
but for 17 bux plus fees on golf now, who cares
great deal
Hidden gem!!! Fantastic value!
Living 25 mins away I never knew this course existed and am ONLY aware because of Golfnow which I’ve heard other courses complain about not making anything in Hotdeals? Seems silly to me knowing I’ve played at least 10 courses this yr alone from golfnow. I had no idea most of these existed because they were a good 20+ miles away. Nonetheless, Woke up early in a Sun morning a took the drive and this course is very nice at a great price. Front 9 and back 9 are much different in my opinion. Back is much harder and you must be pretty accurate in some spots. It’s a nice change up. I will definitely play here again before years end. Super value too!
Good Municipal Course!
Don't miss it. This is a great course. Lots of water, no houses lining the course, etc.
Great course, tough greens
The hole placements were really tough and questionable at times but the overall course is great! A few long par threes. Open enough you can recover from a bad t shot. Would highly recommend for the price!!
Horrible conditions, avoid at all cost
This course use to be nice. They never had much for grass tee to green but at least the greens were always nice and fast. This is not the case now. Greens looked like they haven’t been mowed in at least a week or more. The guy working inside, who called himself the pro, said he’s the only guy working, and it showed. Guess they can’t afford anyone to mow grass or wash carts. Cart was disgusting, not one piece of grass was mowed in at least a week or two. The greens had to be rolling at about a 1 or 2. I putted with 3 wood and still couldn’t hit it hard enough to get it to the hole. The tee boxes looked like the rough at a us open. They might as well close this course if they aren’t going to maintain it. Just terrible. On top of all that, they wanted $35 to golf here, I wouldn’t pay $10 for 18 holes here. Then to have “the pro” being so rude and rushing people. The most “unprofessional” golf pro I have ever met.
That’s surprising that you had such a bad experience. My son and I golf there numerous time throughout the year and have never had a bad experience. The course is always in great shape and as far as the Pro, he’s always nice and courteous when are there as well as the rest of the staff.
Pro-Tournament Layout with Arguably Unfair Small Things
If you’re thinking about playing on this course, be prepared for fairways that stretch from 10-30 yards out with trees elongated all through the sides to punish a shot that misses the fairway. There were times when a tree would block me although I hit a 270-yard drive down the center fairway, which adds into the precision needed to give yourself a good second shot. I knew going into the course that it would be rainy, however the greens were noticeably slower than expected before the rain which wasn’t a problem but the ridiculous pin locations (many holes were placed barely 1 flag-length away from the fringe) felt somewhat unfair. In summary for the money you are spending you are getting a great experience, but the undulating greens and tight fairways might make you nervous. Impressive course layout that gets almost overlooked by tough greens.
Flat fair course. Straightforward greens. Pace is good but I always play early when its light traffic. Guy in pro shop very friendly. Great course for the money on golfnow hot deal.
service
The course was in great shape they had an outing the starter had us play 18 first to warm up & ease the crowding made sure we got off before the outing the food was great! Can’t say enough nice things about the staff! Will be back!
Good condition, open design, not difficult but plenty of interesting features to keep your attention. Excellent value.
Good course for all skill levels
Played on a perfect 79 degree afternoon. Course was in good shape. Open and easy enough to get my wife out to play for the first time in 2+ years. With her retiring in 2 years I need to get her back playing since I will be golfing a lot. For the intermediate player, the course provided me enough of a challenge so I could work on all aspects of my game. A course that I will be visiting again
Green oaks
Played course many times in the past. Course is in very nice shape. The new pro is very friendly and inventive to your needs. Will definitely return.
Nice Muni
Green oaks is always in decent shape, and for a saturday morning, 4hrs was great! Local muni in Ypsilanti!
Pleasantly Surprised
Never played, or even heard of this course before. Ventured out and was pleasantly surprised. I would certainly return to play here again.
u000007303092,
I am very sorry you had an unpleasant experience here at Green Oaks. We are under new management this season and are aware that Green Oaks has a history of allowing 5-somes and we are actively working on a daily basis to correct that trend.
The course is in great condition and we hope you will give us a second chance.
Thank you for your honest review. We will continue to work to make Green Oaks better for our patrons and hope to see you again
