Loon Golf Resort - The Ridge Course
About
The Ridge (formerly know as Marsh Ridge Golf Course) spans acres of unspoiled marshland, tumbling across dramatic elevation changes that provide tees that are as high as the treetops. The course was carefully carved from mature forests and with trees framing most of the holes, accuracy is essential. Although the trees provide a peacefully secluded feel, the hilltops still allow for panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. The five par-3 holes are especially scenic. Strategically placed bunkers come into play throughout and there are water hazards on four holes. The par-3 14th is one of the most challenging holes thanks to a triple-tiered green that is narrow and deep. It is followed by the golf course's longest hole at 483 yards. Although it is seemingly narrow, the hole is more forgiving than it appears. There will definitely be challenges in store on this course but it is also quite playable.

Pace of play
There was a foursome in front of us that was slow otherwise everything would have been fine
There was no savings for using golf now
There was no savings for using golf now. The golf now rate was the same as the regular rate. The tee boxes need alot of work as well
disappointed in Gaylord
We booked on last minute golfer and that was the last good experience of this golf course. The golf course was in horrible condition from the tee box's with four inch crab grass to the fairways that look like the where rototilled and debris everywhere. Now lets get to the greens. They had sticks all over them and again look to not have been cut in a week. We actually found a roller from one of there mowers in the middle of one of the greens. So in a nut shell Dont waste your time and money
This course has been poorly taken care of.
This is not my first time at this course, and I was extremely disappointed with the pace of play, and the course conditions. It almost appeared that it will soon close.
I know it's early in the season however winter clean up should at least be addressed.
I used to be happy to bring people here.
Nice course, needs some TLC
Nice course, with lots of challenges. Several forced carries over marsh and water. Elevation changes, both up and down. Pace of play was great until two groups from an outing were put in front of us playing best ball. We would have played in 1/2 hour less, easily.
The course, however, needs some TLC. Lot of weeds on tees on fairways. Greens were in better condition. We played early in the year, so this may have been a part of it. We saw maintenance on the course, clearing leaves, etc from fairways, and areas near, so they were definitely working on it.
Would definitely play the course again, however. We got a great bargain with GolfNow, so the condition did not take away from our enjoyment.
Enjoyable course
Fun course to play in good shape. Some very tough holes. Beautiful course to play in the fall.
The course though pretty in setting was in the worst shape of any course I've ever played.
Someone please tell the management at Marsh Ridge their course is in very poor shape. The fairways are a little more then clover and weeds. The T-boxes are not much more than sand filled divots. The greens are blotchy and rough and apparently no one attends to the ball marks on this course. It was the biggest disappointment of my entire golfing experiences
Interesting course
The course has enough variation in typography to be interesting. Put it on you schedule when you spend time in Gaylord, Michigan, at a number of really fun courses with breathtaking views. It is more modestly priced than some in the area and could be a beautiful course with a little more attention to maintenance. Restaurant is great; people friendly.
Could be a very nice course.
This course needs some good maintenance. The tee boxes, greens and fairways all need attention. The lay out of the course is real nice and every hole presents its own challenge but it was obvious that it is not what it used to be.
Challenging for a beginner. Would be better played by intermediate golfers.
Enjoyable course to play but several holes better suited for the intermediate golfer. Course was well maintained but cart paths could use some work.
This course is well maintained.
My only concern is that I found the gentleman in the proshop to not be very welcoming. Course is well maintained with a lot of older players. The course is a pretty one that can become challenging due to blind shots and rolling hills.
8/18
Tee boxes shaggy, greens shaggy, fairways shaggy. Very tight.
I wont play it agian!
TEE BOXES were awful!! Rest of the course was average. Paid less at the Dream and was much nicer!!!!
Awesome views
Lots of elevated tees and greens. Very aesthetic. Challenging but not impossible. Would definitely play again.
Lives up to its name
My husband and I recently went to Gaylord for an extended weekend of golf. While there we played three of the Treetops courses, Black Bear, The Loon and finally on our last day, Marsh Ridge. We have played and enjoyed this course on other trips to the Gaylord area. The main highlight of this course is the par threes and several par fours that require a solid hit to carry the marshlands between the tee and green/fairway. On this visit, we found the tee boxes and greens were a bit ragged in areas, but this did not take away from the overall playability of the course. While this course will not blow you away with breath taking views, it is a comfortable course for the average golfer.
needs attention
The course has a great layout, I played from the blues, at 6200 yards, it has some challenging holes, with narrow to moderate landing areas. The front nine needs attention, greens and fairways are a little rough. The back nine seemed to be in better shape, and 18 is a great finishing hole. Very pretty setting, cut through the woods and lots of elevation and hills. I haven't played this course in a number of years, and it was not in as good condition as I remember, but I still enjoyed playing it.
Very scenic and challenging golf course. Not a good course for the average golfer.
Course is very beautiful view of Northern Michigan. A lot of holes have forced carries and dramatic drops of elevation. Many holes ball in fairway is either above or below your feet not many flat lies. Which could cause the average golfer a lot of challenge. Some hole have blind shots or dramatic elevation changes off the tee adding extra stress on tee shots. Greens are rather small and if you go off the back often in the woods.
Loved this course
I only had enough time to do nine holes. When i was done i wish i had the time to do the other nine. Will be coming back to do eighteen
Nice 2nd tier course
I played black lake and marsh ridge this weekend. For 60 dollars, black lake is head and shoulders above this course. We payed 45 for marsh ridge and it was worth it. Greens were well maintained as well as the bunkers. Course condition was great. The course starts to get good after the 6th hole on. I would recommend playing this course as a higher end second tier course if you are giung on vacation. Staff in the pro shop, beverage cart and dining room is very friendly.
Great Deal, but other courses are better
Marsh Ridge is a decent course, but when compared to others in the area, it is second rate. The tee boxes look like they have been through a war.
