Comes up short
The course is very short but we knew that ahead of time. Most play straight out and are either driveable or close enough you end up playing them like par 3's waiting on the group in front of you to clear the green for fear of driving into them. Three or four holes have a blind tee shot that kept you going forward and then driving back to the tee waiting on the group in front. Everyone was apparently aware of this and were very patient and courteous without pushing or driving up in the tee box with you. Just a heads up: the 18th hole is inhabited by a flock of geese. The fairway and green is covered with goose droppings. We had to pick up on the green because there was no way to putt. The staff was nice and helpful and the equipment was in good shape. The greens were in decent shape but not very challenging. Ok for beginners and locals but I wouldn't go out of my way to play it again.
Hidden gem in Richmond, KY
I live in Lexington and have played a few courses there. Battlefield turned out to be better than most of the ones I have played in Lexington. It is very hilly throughout. The greens were very fast when we played, hazards hardly a factor. The front 9 is set up like a links course, the back 9 is through the neighborhood. It feels like 2 different courses. My biggest complaint is that there was no course layout anywhere and because it is so hilly with some hard doglegs, you can't always see the green from the tee box. Multiple times I had to drive my cart halfway down the fairway to see where I was hitting. 2 of us played the whole course in 3.5 hrs. I will definitely be back.
Hidden Gem
The fact that it has a driving range was a bonus. the layout was nice and the greens were in good shape considering the lack of rain and scorching temps.
We finished in less than four hours which is unusual anymore with people taking too long.
Now that we have played it once we will return to challenge some of the Par 4 holes that can be played differently with some course experience.
Nice course for sure.
beautiful, well maintained, nice holes
I really enjoyed this course, it is beautiful and well taken care of, just a really pleasant place to spend the day
missing yardage markers
There are no course maps on the scorecard or on the hole signs. Also there are only a few yardage markers on the fairways or carts paths. As no one in my group had played the before and the course is hilly we were forced to hit many blind shots with unknown distances from the tee and fairway. also no signage or directions to the 1st or 10th tee. When I registered I asked the pro if there was anything I needed to know about the course and all he said was that the front was wide open and the back was tight as it winds through the subdivision. He could have mentioned that you have to drive on the roads for 1/2 a mile to get to #10 tee.
Very nice course
nice course back nine plays around lots of homes. 18th is a very hard par 4.
Course in great condition
Battlefield is in great condition, even in mid-October. Fairways were in good shape and the greens were excellent. Staff was extremely friendly and nice. On the downside, the course was a lot of out and backs, a lot of drive and chip. Not the most picturesque course in Kentucky, although I thought the back more attractive than the front. Nice for a practice round.
Quick getaway
Course is short, some of the greens can be a challenge
First time, but I'll be back
A friend suggested we try this course, as he had played there a few times. I located an early morning tee time at a very attractive price and reserved accordingly.
The course is fairly straightforward, though two or three holes rely on some local knowledge or past experience to play them optimally. I'm a bogey golfer and played better than that in stretches.
The staff was very friendly and welcoming and allowed my partner and me to start a bit early.
It appears that the excessive rains in the area have created a fungus on some fairways, but it's my understanding that this will be addressed in the fall by closing the course for a period of time.
This was an enjoyable round of golf, and I would play this course again.
Nice Day at Battlefield
Greens were fast, rough was in good but not great shape. Some bunkers weren't playable but most were. Staff was helpful and friendly.
Not for Beginners
If you're new to golf be aware on the back 9 you are playing in close proximity to houses. LOTS of houses. Other than that this course is beautiful and fun to play. Played via a HOT DEAL on golfnow.com, couldn't beat the price that way. Enjoyed the layout of the course. Wish they would give you a course map on arrival though.
Getting better
Course has came a long way from where it was a couple years ago. Staff is doing a great job getting the course where it needs to be. The bunkers are great and the greens are getting there, fairways are also in pretty good shape.
Battlefield
Good greens that rolled true. Was very happy with the round
Nice place for a round
It was a great experience and a nice course to play, some difficult holes with some narrowness surrounded by housing. some of the fairways could use some work but the greens were in excellent condition. Friendly staff
My Best Score Ever!
Played in 3 hours.
Had a mid-afternoon tee time during hottest part of the day, but that didn't stop me from the best scoring day of my golfing life.
Course was in excellent shape. A couple of fairways were getting new grass but all others were green and even, greens rolled true.
We would recommend putting this course on your Kentucky bucket list.
Good course
Great value for this course, I got it on golf now for $12 for 18 holes and a cart before taxes. The course was in great condition outside of a couple spots in a few fairways. Hole 11's fairway must have been lost last year and is under repair from about 150yds to 40yds from the green. It looks to be coming in nicely and should be fine later in the summer. The blind tee shots on this course can be aggravating at times but after playing the course a few times it is a fun course to play.
Short, but tough 1st time
Pretty short course, but lots of blind tee shots. Tee boxes were kind of rough, but fairways, approach areas, and greens were second to none. Great course but first timers need to do their homework. I had several lost balls on good tee shots due to lack of mapping on scorecard. That led to 12 penalty shots. Hit driver several times when a 3 or 4 iron would have been the best club off the tee.
Overall a great course, great location, and no overcrowding. Highly recommended!
going to be really good
Tee boxes and greens were in great shape for this time of year. Fairways are in need of some work. This course requires accuracy for a good score. It was a fun play.
This course was ok
It was ok but it needs some TLC. Maybe because it is fall course just need some work.
