Great course!
If you can make it past the first three holes you’ll have a great round! Two dog legs lefts and a long par three make it a tough start ! Other than that it’s beautiful. The greens roll true and fast. Quiet and beautiful – this course could use a haircut but still plays wonderfully.
Great Course!
Played Forest Hills on a windy day. Great course, in great shape. Pace of play was great, the course was not very busy. Fun day
Course conditions were excellent! Enjoyed the layout. Challenging but fair
Great Course, Great Value
One of my favorite courses to play in the North Metro area. Greens are always in great shape, and are very fast in the summer. Course layout is challenging but rewarding, and really gives you some opportunities to score well.
Well-maintained course with full-service restaurant & bar
Typical layout for the most part; tree-lined fairways, some bunkers, mostly near greens, and water but not a ton. However, the addition of some elevation changes, some semi-blind shots, challenging greens and a couple memorable holes (especially #15, a dog-legging par 4 that tightly borders a small lake from tee to green) made for a more interesting layout with good enough variety.
Conditions were soft. Tee boxes, fairways and greens were in about as good of shape as they could have been. Tee boxes were cut very short, as were the fairways, so must hit the ball first. Bunkers were also soft and in great shape.
We were told the rough can be punishing but it was cut short the day we played, which helped finding our balls in the Fall leaves.
Greens were the hardest part of the course, I thought. Very undulating at times, many sloping back to front, with some tough pin placements.
Not especially scenic, except for the great view of Shields Lake on hole #15.
Many of the greens and tee boxes were very close to each other, which can be distracting, but also makes the course more walkable.
Pace was ideal. We were allowed to tee off early. No one in front or behind us all day.
A rest area with outhouses & vending machines, but didn't see any drinking water.
Yardage marker plates were sometimes hard to find.
On the short side for the longer hitters who drive the ball, say, 275-300+ yards (6514 from the tips).
Driving range/practice area just down the road across the street.
Noisy gas carts. Electric would be a nice improvement.
The full-service restaurant & bar looked popular to the members, who were very friendly. Plenty of indoor & outdoor seating.
Great location, just south of Forest Lake.
We booked through GolfNow.com for $45/round. Not the cheapest deal but reasonable, especially for an opportunity to play a private course.
Patience
The layout is very difficult and the greens are impossible but the course is nice. Good luck
I want to go back and play it again
It was an excellent course. You have to keep the ball in the fairway to have a chance at par.. Rough was thick and trees limited recovery on misplaced shots. Greens were excellent and fast. I scored poorly my first time out, too many blowup holes between the good ones. Fun course and offers many challenges, worth the drive.
The course was great.
The whole experience was great. Course layout, condition, staff. In all, a great day. Booked as a prepaid round for 4 players. One cancelled last minute. My card was credited, less a small cancellation fee, immediately. No hassles.
Boring Layout
Got the chance to play Forest Hills as a nonmember; based on the other reviews on this site, I decided to make the hourlong drive and try it out. All in all, I was left underwhelmed. While the course was certainly well-maintained (especially the greens, which were great), the layout itself was average. It feels like 18 holes were crammed into a space large enough to fit only about 14 comfortably; some tee boxes were directly bordering one another. While holes 10 and 15 were interesting and memorable, the course had way too many straight, 380-yard par 4's for my taste. The lack of space/elevation change can't really be helped, but I would've liked to see some more fairway bunkers or water hazards to spice things up a bit.
Great way to end out the year
Played course for 1st time. Paired up with another single and twosome which proved helpful getting from green to tee. Several holes with blind tee shots but advice given extremely helpful. The course was in great shape and back 9 a lot more hilly than expected. Played from middle tees so driver isn't always necessary. If get a chance to play this private course it is definitely worth getting out.
Must play
Awesome course!!
Friendly staff, knowledgeable of golfers needs.
If you get a chance to play, PLAY!!
Best course next to the twin cities
This is the best hidden gem in the twin cities area. If you get a chance to play, do it! This course has the look of a private course but the members make you feel right at home. Beautiful greens, tee boxes and fairways. Yardages marked with plates on the fairways from 225 yards and in. 150 yard posts are not on the course though. This course is my new favorite in the Twin Cities and i will play it every chance i get. Memberships are affordable for this great track.
Bring your A game
Built in 1959 this course has it all, some of the greens are small others good size. Fairways are wide ruff is heavy but fair. Several greens are sloped back to front besides being undulated and if you miss your putt you will be putting from the apron or chipping from fairway or ruff. A lot of trees and several blind shots along with elevated greens. The tee boxes were in great condition. This is not a course for beginners.
