Little Traverse Bay Golf Club is one of the courses that put the Harbor Springs area of northern Michigan on the map as one of the state's most popular golfing destinations. The scenic location offers panoramic views with the ability on clear days to see all the way to Little Traverse Bay on several holes. The rolling terrain provides elevated tees and green complexes that will test your skills picking the proper club. You'll find that the uphill approaches often need one or two extra clubs. Different types of bunkers are strategically placed throughout with some that will give you fairly easy recoveries while others are high-lipped and consequently more punishing. There are some stunning holes thanks to the dramatic elevation changes, especially on the back nine where the landscape is even more undulating.

Awesome mountain experience
This is "mountain golf." Awesome layout and elevation changes. Greens fast but in great condition. Very sloped greens and no easy putts. Great par 5's and even better par 4's. Fairways and greens in pristine condition - best in area. Only drawback is the #1 tee Starter gives too much advice about what tees to play and to slow your swing down!
Fast and undulating greens and lots of ups and downs
I must course to play just for the beauty. Greens are very challenging and no level lie in up and down fairways.I am senior who should have played the yellows for a better score.
ONE OFF THE BUCKET LIST
THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST OVERALL IN THE Petoskey, MI. area. NOT TO BE LEFT OFF THE LIST. GREENS OR VERY FAST. THE ELEV CHANGES OR GREAT.
Beautiful property and unreal views
one of the most beautiful courses I have ever played. Only knocks are pace of play and people in the pro shop weren't overly nice. Everyone on the course was great. Bring your camera, the conditions are wonderful and the views are in unbelievable.
Not to be missed!
This is a gorgeous course, nestled within several lakes and the bay. You can see water on nearly every hole given the topography. The lakes make putting treacherous as you decide which lake the ball will head for! Most of the holes create interesting challenges-- blind shots, narrow fairways with lots of trees, steep uphill.or steep downhill. We loved it and would definitely come back. Staff were all very welcoming.
Stunningly beautiful course!
As good as public golf gets.
Incredible views, challenging track, in great condition - a "must play" if in the area.
My favorite nortern Michigan golf course
Little Travers bay is my favorite northern Michigan golf course. It has the best views of any golf course I have ever played. The course is in great shape. The greens were in perfect shape and fairways were perfect. If you have not yet played this golf course. You must move this to the top of your list it's a must play for everyone.
Massive elevation changes, pristine conditions..
Probably the best course MOST of average society would EVER play. I've booked with Golfnow BEFORE they were golf now(so for a long time in other words)
and this was one of the BEST I've booked thru them.
Id play here again with zero hesitation and for 40.00/round it was truly a steal. I've played Bay Harbor in Petosky as well (at 240.00/round) and LTB
is in great shape at a bargain price. Had a beer and a Kuba Kuba post round with an inspiring view of the 18th hole and of Lake Michigan. Truly loved it. Thanks Golf now....while i wish you would give me back my elite status of booking for free (which i lost due to TWO surgery's just last year) Im still glad i book with you....Great job !
Great views, tough greens
Overall, wonderful golf course, staff and restaurant. The condition of the course is well above average. There are a lot of elevation changes. #9 and #18 play straight uphill. The greens are incredibly difficult - be prepared for several 3 putts (and maybe a 4 putt)!
Challenging and scenic
The Course was in great condition. It is very challenging with great views.
Dang nice course
I heard about this course from a friend. It was as nice as he had described. Well groomed, challenging greens, great views & the beer was cold!
Booked it through the Golfnow app & saved a ton. Very simple procedure as well.
Scenic beauty
My wife and I played this course for the first time. The course is well maintained. The location and views are incredible. The front 9 is the best with the views and playability by all. The back 9 has more forced carries and is harder for a short hitter.
Great early year round
Teed off at 1:30 as a single, took my time and never challenged the group ahead or was pushed from behind - finished in 3 hours. Course in very good shape, only thought the greens were a bit slow, but very playable. Very good experience
Great views
This course is well worth playing for the shape of the course and the views. The only problem is the greens are very difficult to read. Add about 10 strokes to your score due to difficult to read putts. So leave your ego at home when you play this course. I love it.
The view is phenomenal as is the course
The course is absolutely gorgeous and very well maintained. The staff are extremely friendly. The course is very challenging. Women playing from the red tees get quite an advantage. I feel very fortunate to be able to play this course thanks to the great rates that we get from Golf Now.
Pretentious Beauty
Little Traverse Bay, its not you, its me, well, one thing is for sure. You see, its complicated. While this course possesses undeniably beautiful vistas and scenery, I'm torn on whether or not I really recommend playing it. Ultimately, I think I'm one and done with LTB.
Yes, nearly every hole could qualify as a "signature" hole on many courses as LBT's countless elevation changes give way to picturesque vistas dominating the backdrop from the first tee to the last green. However, for the average golfer this course will likely prove exceedingly frustrating...though the snobbish vibe let off by many of the clientele and staff would suggest the "average" golf simply play elsewhere. This course has a private, country-club feel...not always a bad thing, but it was in this case.
I'm a 22 handicap and the others in the group I played with are right around there, when I say this course can be frustrating I'll give you the scores of a couple of my playing partners and leave it at that: 140 & 126. The lesson here, in my opinion, is that breathtaking elevation change and jaw-dropping vistas do not a great golf course make.
While the elevation change and vistas are what make the course, I feel that they are also what inevitably break the course. The playability of the LBT suffers from the designer's obsession with creating that "signature" hole on every (<--italics, eye roll) hole. Most notably, the 9th and the 18th are par fours that read around 300 or so on the scorecard (just guessing, not confirming this by looking at the scorecard)...the catch? You literally have about 150 yards (again guessing) to climb up the equivalent of a black-diamond ski hill to get to the green on either hole. On the opposite end of the spectrum you have par threes that read 180 and play 130 due to the plunge downward (I typically hit my 8-iron around 140 and found myself using it on a par 3, 183 yard hole only to overshoot the green). I guess if you played the course more than once you'd get a better feel for this sort of thing? With the wind whipping around I'm not so sure you'd ever get used to it. The elevation change both up and down really gets to the point where its almost comical. Adding to the frustration are all the uneven and slanted lies resulting from the treacherous hillsides.
I also found the rough (I know, I know, just hit it in the fairway) to be extremely tough. If you hit hybrids DO NOT play this course, this is where my buddy with the 140 had his problems...he doesn't carry a normal iron aside from his wedges. Okay, so real golfers don't typically don't play hybrids (we do, I guess that's why we aren't "members" here).
Finally, talking with others who had played here and reading reviews I knew the greens were fast going in (also made a point to hit the practice green before teeing off). I didn't have a problem on the first several holes (maybe even the front 9), but there were at least four or five holes on the back 9 that were extremely quick. This resulted in myself or my playing partners finding ourselves on the green in 4, off the green in 5, and in the hole in 7, 8, etc. a couple of times...aggravating. Okay, too much negativity, let me say something nice...along with the quickness there are several greens where the ball breaks the opposite direction of your read...which everybody loves (<--sarcasm, not actually nice).
If you want scenery then this is your course, but I'd prefer to save my cash and pull off the road when I see one of those "Scenic Overlook" signs instead. If I want to play golf, I'll go to an actual golf course...this barely qualifies in my book. Ultimately, a scratch golfer or better would might dig LTB...but for a hack like me I'd rather go to a Boyne course when in the area (similar price range, much more playable, still scenic enough, still enough elevation change on most courses).
Great Vistas!
I found the course very beautiful and very challenging the elevation changes were nothing I've ever played on before with great views of 3 different bodies of water.
the course was in great shape and the Greens rolled perfectly other than the subtle brakes in the greens. I think I had four three putts on what appeared to be pretty flat greens. I had to keep scratching my head as I hit many greens in regulation and walked away with a bogey.
we had a beautiful day weather wise and the course was a lot of fun to play.
most beautiful golf course I have ever played.
most beautiful golf course I have ever played in my life
