Editor's Note: Tartan Park was closed for business in 2015 and a new development named Royal Golf Club replaced it.

Miss this course
Yes, I'm aware that it has been sold and remodelled. I am not happy about the redevelopment, or the rearrangement of my favorite course.
Visually, Tartan Park was calming, beautiful, refreshing, in that it wasn't over- tended. Yes, it was mowed and cared for. But it still had a rural feel. The holes were clean, but challenging. Each with it's own personality. If you parred the hole, it took you by surprise. I experienced a different result for each shot, each visit. I had four or five favorite holes, and I miss each one.
I looked forward to golfing there each summer. I looked forward to improving my score each time. Now the new owners have turned it into a course that will be a show place, a rush-through, a business. It won't have the comfortable worn- in feel any longer. It will be fussy and manicured. Planned.
Expensive.
Like losing an old friend, I mourn that I won't be able to enjoy the views, or the calm seclusion of this small suburban heaven.
Goodbye Tartan. Hello Snobs.
