Great course with "up north" feel.
Challenging layout for all skill levels. Good shots are rewarded. Great views of Lake Walden and beautiful tree lined fairways with no back and forth holes.
Majestic? ....almost
I wouldn't say it was Majestic but it was in very good condition... prompt and friendly pro shop and we were on the first tee in minutes
Great course with up north feel
The course was in great shape. Fairways are cut through forests. Lots of elevation changes, rolling hills. The course has its challenges but is fair. Greens offer ample landing areas and roll true.
course
Great course worth every penny. Highly recommend to all golfers of every skill level
Golfers Beware
This is the second time I've played this course in 2015. The first time was in the spring. In both cases the course was the same. Upon preparing for our tee time we met the starter / ranger. We asked if the putting green condition and speed was reflective of the greens on the course. He commented "I don't know for sure ... I haven't been on the course in weeks." How does the starter / ranger not know such an important piece of info?! The reason for the question was due to the fact that the greens were incredibly slow and shaggy / bumpy. We were treated by these types of greens throughout the round. It was a terrible disappointment. The lack of care on the greens was also surprising. I personally fixed about 3-4 ball marks on every single green. They were deep marks. This was brought to the attention of the clubhouse, but they didn't care. They were all only college kids. We also noticed that not one bunker was raked by the grounds crew. We brought this to the attention of the staff in the spring and their response was "its early in the season and we're getting those types of things ironed out in our staff." Terrible excuse. Our pace of play was average and there was no ranger monitoring it on the course. Another disappointment was that the "cart girl" was done for the day at about 5p. We golfed until 8p. There were many golfers out there. Why in the world would the "cart girl" be done so early?! Ridiculous. My buddies and I golf a lot and have commented that we will never be back. This course is gorgeous and used to be one of the better ones in the area. If the current ownership is unwilling to invest in their business or manage their business effectively, I believe that they should sell to someone who is. Then again, as golfers realize the downturn in the golf quality at Majestic the owner may have nothing to sell anyways.
One of the regular courses played
Have played The Majestic many times over the last few years. Last year they experienced some issues with some of the greens (disease?) but discounted the rates. It appears that a couple of the greens on the first 18 may still be in recovery mode.
Enjoyable round
Played as a twosome behind a threesome and found the pace of lay exceptional. While we simply laid back on occasion, we still finished in under two hours. Had been awhile since last playing and enjoyed re-visiting the great views throughout the course. It was a course I had previously rated as a GAM course rater and recall many of the difficulties we had rating the back tees for the Bogey golfer - fortunately at 90 years I now play the White tees!
Great Course, terrible pace of play
Majestic is one of the best courses around and you will enjoy the views. However the pace of play was awful due to one group that would not allow the 4 twosomes behind them to play through. The ranger was of no help on multiple occasions when he saw the back up, and I even called the club house to have them come talk to the group with no result! Poor course management on their part I don't know if I will return due to how frustrating it was.
Very disappointed
I was born and raised in SE Michigan, and the Majestic has always been one of my very favorite courses. So, when I traveled back to the area from the east coast this summer, I had to mix in a round with a few friends. Was I disappointed. While it was nice to see that the cost to play the Majestic was a little less than I remembered, the course condition was unbelievably poor. I could not believe it when we walked up to multiple greens and found them to be spotty, bumpy, and almost completely lost. We were putting on dirt patches, and had to move our ball around on the greens just to find a line to the hole with even a little grass. Before the round, when I asked the staff about the course condition, they mentioned a "rough winter and spring", but after playing other, much less expensive courses the same week just around the corner from the Majestic in great condition, I can tell you it is not the weather that was the problem. The greens keepers are not doing the job.
It's really disappointing to see such a gem of a layout in such bad condition. I hope someone gets it together out there and returns this course to it's former glory. Tough to keep it in the mix if they don't.
What happened to Majestic??
This used to be one of my favorite courses. Now the greens were very bad and the cart paths rattle you to death. The balls washers were either empty or smelled so disgusting I was afraid to use them. This course is suffering from major neglect. I have played other courses in the area that didn't have these problems with their greens. I hope it makes a comeback because I always liked this course a lot.
A great variety of holes
Course is very scenic with mature trees, strategic fairway traps, water, and rough. There are no adjoining holes and each has its own unique setting. Demands distance and accuracy. Only major downside were the greens which had patches of I assume winter damage but pins were usually placed to minimize effect on putts. Overall a fun day
Sad...this course used to be LEGIT
Course was burnt up. Some greens are in good condition, but not as good as The Majestic used to be. This course used to be prestine and lush and one of the top course in the area. It's now being past up and the clubhouse and golf cars are looking old.
Still a good track just not as good as it used to be. It needs some TLC
Majestic lives up to its name!
My wife and I played 10-18 and 19-27 yesterday. The bag staff of young people was incredibly welcoming and enthusiastic. A sign of excellent training and supervision.
The range balls were a bit overpriced at $10 for a large bucket but they were not needed. So many balls were left at the range by golfers rushing to make their tee times that we could have hit 3 large buckets without buying our own!
I won't keep you in suspense. This is a wonderfully entertaining layout with a number of intriguing holes that are a test of imagination and execution. It is well conditioned and maintained. You will not be disappointed there. The greens were in great shape too but some were much slower than others. This led to a couple of unexpected 3 putts in our group. We had an early morning tee time so variable green speeds was a bit surprising and required some quick adjustments to our putting. Note that we did not putt prior to the round to assist us in calibrating greens speeds. Cart girls circulated promptly and were all smiles and banter. The carts appeared to be well stocked.
Carts have GPS with yardage readouts but not hole layouts. That would have been helpful because local knowledge makes a difference to scoring. You do not need a driver on most of those short and moderate length par 4s! Put it back in your bag and play conservatively to avoid trouble and score best. Pro tips for playing strategies on each hole would have been immensely helpful and much appreciated
This is a women golfer friendly course. The Red tees provide a very good opportunity for the women to be as long or longer off the tee as the longer male hitters from the Blue or White tees. My wife is a long hitter and she commented how much she enjoyed hitting from the Reds and looking back at us long hitters off the Blue tees!
A couple more constructive comments:
1. Needed more rangers on the course. 10-18 went quickly (2 hours) but 19-27 took almost 3 hours due the slow 4some in front of us looking for balls.
2. Pro tips as referenced above.
3. More visible signage directing golfers across the road the 3rd nine.
That's it! A thoroughly enjoyable playing experience and well worth the greens fees. We shall return. Highly recommended.
Disappointing greens
A great course, very peaceful, frindly staff. What a shame they let their greens go to heck. And then the weekend pin placements were in some of the worst parts of those bad greens!! Hard to believe a course of this caliber would allow greens this bad. I'm rooting for their return as this is a very nice course!
Poor Greens
Although I liked the lay out of the course and the conditions from tee to green were pretty good, the greens were the worst I have played in the past two years. It looks like they haven't recovered from the winter of 2013/14. Very slow, bumpy, different types of grass or no grass at all.
Great course
Awesome value great course greens are a little worn out from the winter
Up north feel
This is now my favorite course. Every hole stood alone. No spraying your ball and walking in another fairway to recover. Can't wait to play it again.
Overall very good
The holes on this course are isolated, very well maintained. The drive from hole to hole extends play a little but not bad. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We did get some food in the club house the service was a little slow the the food was good. The carts are equipped with GPS which was very nice and the score cards give you hole placement.
Great course!
No major complaints. Love this course. Fairways in EXCELLENT condition. Only minor complaint is that some of the greens are a little bare in areas and there is not a constant speed amongst them. That won't keep me from coming back, though. Would have given it 4.5 stars if I could with the greens in current condition.
Don't get me wrong, they aren't in bad shape, just not what they have been in the past. Will be back again and again.
Always A Pleasure
Never turn down playing here. GolfNow makes it affordable, otherwise, pricey green fees. There is no Turn after 9 Holes and no where near the Club House. Pack a Lunch.
How about a Snack Stand between 9+10. Long wait for Cart Girl to play 18 Holes or have 2 Cart girls that drive around, especially on busy weekends Tee Times.
