Disappointing
I booked on Golf Now for 18 holes. The front nine took exactly 2 hours to complete as there were 2 groups ahead of us that were playing very slow. The pace of play for 18 holes is 4 hours so we were right on schedule for that. However, from holes 5-9 the pace was getting exceeding longer and there's no doubt it would have been more than 2 hours on the back nine. So I stopped at the pro shop to see if I could get a voucher for the back nine as I would have been late picking up my son due to the slow pace of play. I was told that this wasn't possible by the manager. Clearly, the right thing to do would have been to let me come back another time and finish up my round. Apparently, that's too big of an inconvenience for Monticello Country Club. Well, luckily there's plenty of other courses in the area to choose from. Disappointing.
Pace of Play
We teed off at 11:15 and completed the first nine holes in 1 hr 30 mins. Absolutely no waiting at all, even following two older ladies. We get to the back nine and it's a complete standstill. Their was a group of 20 or so older gentleman that we apparently caught up to. The pace of play slowed to a snails pace. The back nine holes took nearly 3 hrs 30 mins. The 2 ladies in front of us quit, the single player behind us also quit. We were being pushed by a 5 sum behind us. It was normal to have 4 groups on 1 hole at a time. 1 on the green, 1 on the fairway, and 2 on the tee box. I know this doesn't reflect on the course, however, these were clearly regulars and the course did nothing to speed it up even after us complaining.
Monticello Country Club
The course was in good shape, greens were fast and challenging! Staff was very friendly and my wife and I always enjoy when we aren’t paired up. It is a fun course!
Convenient layout
The facilities here are laid out well. From parking to the club house to the pro shop to the practice green and range and first tee boxes. Everything seemed fairly close but not crowded. The greens were in excellent shape especially for the end of October. They rolled true and smooth and would hold a good approach shot. There are many trees between the fairways which had dropped lots of leaves. You could tell they were trying to mulch the leaves down, but it was still hard to find balls. Overall, I enjoyed the course and appreciate the work put into it
The cost and the staff makes it always worthwhile. They do a very good job of maintaining it and always enjoy playing it.
