The course was in beautiful shape.
Great course,2:55 pace of play for 18 holes, it was like the way golf was meant to be played!
Easy to get on
while most other courses are booked solid this course was easy to get on with short notice. no shortage of carts. pace of play was good. early season conditions were to be expected. and people were very friendly. always enjoy this course.
Pace of Play
They let two 5 somes out back to back; 10 guys in their 70’s. Well how do you think the pace of play was? Almost a 3 hour front 9. Then we skipped 2 holes just to get around them. From what I hear this is normal here; 5+ hour 18 holes
Course Review
Rum River is hard to beat when you consider the price, the conditions and location. Greens are fantastic, some fairways are subject to water/soft spots due to low lying areas and with the river just a few yards away. Each hole is different, presents varying degree of challenges for golfers of all levels. Overall, its a solid course and I definitely recommend it.
GM attitude and late tee time tee off
Yesterday my father and I booked an 8:12 tee time at this course. We live about 45 min away from it. So we woke up and got there 15 minutes early to wake up and stretch before playing. No one was there in the club house or the bar. We sat outside for 20 minutes then talked to the grounds crew to figure out what happened. Apparently the person that works there had an incident. A back up person showstopper up around 8:30 and we didn’t tee off until 8:53. When we got done with our round I went in to talk to the General Manager to explain my frustration. He greeted me with attitude and told me I played the round and payed $20 bucks. He continued to say accident happens there’s nothing he can do about it with attitude. He ended up giving me a free 18 holes but I have to pay the cart fee of $15 bucks. He wasn’t apologetic or owning up to the fact that his business made a mistake. I will not be playing this course again because I had to ask for an apology. Business is business and when your business makes a mistake you should take care of the customer in a respective manner and he failed to do so. If I was 40 minutes late to my tee time do you think he would give me my money back or let me play?
Enjoyable Day
We come to Rum River Hills three or four times a summer. We like the course and it it can be a challenge which we like. Today’s pace was very slow. However, it was a beautiful day and we were not in a hurry.
Fun, quirky course
My son and I were looking for a quick round while in MN. Weather was a bit cold and wet at first, better by end of round. Several blind tee shots or sort of awkward angles/club choices (even from the tips). Greens were quite varied in size, but mostly small and often turtle-backed -- made for some very tricky putts and chips. Shots that seemed good would sometimes trickle off. Main issue was that holes were mostly very close; Felt like balls were sailing close-by from other groups, and a couple of our drives were in other fairways. Also a lot of OB -- plenty of bordering yards, and not always obvious where those lines were if you hadn't played there before.
Makes you work
Easy to find, though signage could be better, easy check in, you can drive carts to car, carts have seen a fair bit of use, our sand bottle was not filled.so no divots filled today, no drinking water on course, no water bucket for towels, pretty easy to find your way, tees have seen lots of use and some beat a fair bit, fairways generally good, bunkers seemed ok, but only in one, greens roll pretty fair but lots of marks and few straight putts, a fair bit of water but seemed manageable,I think this course gets lots of play and therefore the grounds people get a work out trying to keep up the layout makes you have to think some and have to hit a fair number of calculated second shots and the pace was good today
Great value
Great way to spend an afternoon. Friendly players, staff and beautiful weather. I’d play it again tomorrow.
Very scenic
Many fairways spread wide open with a few creeks running threw out the course. Very nice and reasonably priced.
Absolutely agree. Though it was not his fault that an employee had some personal crisis that made him no-show work he could have been more apologetic. I have experienced this indifference type attitude at this course myself. That's why I had not been back in over 5 years.
