Still a decent course
River Oaks is showing its age, but for a weekend golfer it's still a good deal. The hot weather has browned some of the tee boxes and a few spots on the course, but not terribly. The clubhouse could use some work, but they're trying to add a workout room and sell memberships, maybe that will help.
This is "Great Life " ?
Greens were in fair to good condition . Tee boxes were terrible very little grass and need revamping . Traps were for the most part properly maintained but several have been abandoned and left for weeds to thrive in and they are thriving . Fairways are abhorrent very little grass and appear to have died out . This course has a terrific design/layout but is not being properly maintained and is no fun to play from fairways with bare lies . Will not be returning anytime soon.
Great Day for Golf
My husband and I were checking out places to play and had not been to this course in a while. The greens were fine but the fairway needs some work which is was getting. We played the 18 in under 3.5 hours even with the player in front of us walking.
Great Day
Had a nice time..could go at my own pace..would play there again.
River Oaks
Greens good, fairways OK, sand traps very hard. Overall course is challenging.
Nice, fun, quiet layout 2nd tier condition
I really liked the layout. Tight enough to focus attention. Very few holes side by side. Creek in play a lot. Very few straight holes. Greens are really really small but receptive but there is little sand All good.
Condition is definitely 2nd or 3rd tier. greens were probably slowest I've ever played. Had to jackhammer putts. Many had weeds and dead spots. This is green maintenance 101. Fairways were actually decent. Rest is weeds and bare spots Tee boxes were really really bad. I guess they cant buy sand and fill in divots and holes...doesn't seem that hard..,
Facility is spartan at best....I don't really care about the clubhouse but it does match the course maintenance perfectly.
Decent layout, quick, and cheap.
I played Thai course a lot when I first started playing golf so it's got some nostalgia for me. It definitely could be better maintained, the tee boxes from the blues were hardly marked on some holes some where just spray painted on the grasss others only had one marker. (This is an easy fix but I guess they would rather spend the money/time trying to get the greens in shape). Overall greens are decent but not anywhere close to the speeds or undulations you'd get at say Fred Arbanas or Deer Creek. What I do love about the course is the layout it's fun and has some challenging holes - tighter on the front longer on the back. Also I love the pace of play - $20 for 18 with a cart on golf now in the afternoons and you can easily get a round in at 3hrs.
Triple booked
My experience sucked. I booked on golf now for a 1024am tee time just to show up and they were triple booked with NO GOLF CARTS AVAILABLE.
Good value round of golf
Good value for the money. Course was not in the best of shape, but we're playing golf in mid-November, so I can't complain too much. Layout of the course was pretty nice. It's relatively easy, but was pretty fun. Got a little backed up, so pace of play was a little slower than I'd like. All in all, pretty good experience.
My Day at River Oak
The greens are in great shape. The fairways are dry, but we'll maintained. If you are a solid striker off the tee, with distance and control, you can shoot low scores here. I applaud the Manage staff for no longer allowing fivesomes to play the course. That keeps the pace of play in check.
Good old course
I tend to forget about River Oaks since it's not near me and off the beaten path. But I've played it each of the last two years and been pleasantly surprised. It's well maintained, never overly crowded. Not a high dollar championship course, but well worth the $$ for the average golfer.
Unfriendly Unprofessional Staff!!!!
I've only been trying to play golf for around 8 years but this experience was one of the worst ever by a golf staff person. I only went there to take advantage of a $19.00 GOLFNOW special. I have played River Oaks a few times in the past. I had a 7:04am tee time. However, there was no one there when I arrived before 7am. The staff guy didn't arrive until around 7:20am. Once he opened the door, I went to the counter and I jokingly asked if this round was free (obviously in reference to him not being there before my 7:04am tee time). He said in an unfriendly manner without even looking at me, "NO" , he simply continued to look at the computer. His behavior was rude and inconsiderate. Oh by the way, there was no "good morning", "how are you", "sorry I wasn't here by 7am", "apology for having me wait" from him. He simply took my $19 and gave me a cart key. When we finished the front nine, there was a group of 6 guys who were getting ready to tee off on the 10th hole. They told us a tournament was going on. Those players were considerate enough to let us play thru. The rude staff person should have mentioned that there was a tournament before our round started. There are so many golf courses around the KC area in much better condition than River Oaks, I am shocked that their staff person would have such a inconsiderate and unprofessional approach to his job. I'm done with River Oaks and I will discourage any of my many golf friends from playing there. I suggest that anyone considering River Oaks, check out other courses first. Not based on the course but based on my experience with that individual staff person.
