Crystal Springs Quarry Golf Club
About
Crystal Spring Quarry sits perched atop a bluff overlooking the Missouri River Valley. In 1888, the quarry was established and named after the crystal clear springs that meander across the landscape. Over a century later the historic quarry was transformed into a stunning 18-hole, public golf course. Mature forests surround three sides of the course and the fourth is bordered by Creve Coeur Park. The terrain was carefully preserved to the point that playing a round almost feels like wandering through a nature preserve. The protected wetlands, vast lakes, and meadows covered in native grasses were deftly utilized in the design. Water is naturally a major element of the golf course but there are also strategically placed bunkers along the greensides. It is a challenge, but five sets of tees make Crystal Spring Quarry more accessible for different skill levels.

The course was in very good shape.
The course layout makes the holes challenging for the short distances and I give it high marks for that, but the track of the holes are very unusual in that you are no where near the clubhouse at the turn. I will not be back.
Nice course with lots of variety
I've played here three times now, and I have to say it gets more fun each time. Not the easiest course, but also not the toughest; great for all skill levels. Wide fairways for the most part, and lots of variety among the holes. Course was in good condition, especially given that I played in the middle of November. Will definitely play again, especially if I can find another $20 deal!
Good shape for fall
Greens keepers have done a nice job of clearing leaves and grooming greens considering the time of year. Lots of goose droppings on several holes though, almost like they spread it as fertilizer! Don't like the new layout, but I hear they sold the ground under the old first hole, so probably no fixing that now. Good value for the price. Pace of play was good despite major frost delay pushing back all tee times by an hour or so.
Quirky and Interesting
The course layout is interesting, easy to get lost on the back nine. Some of the fairways are very narrow so low irons or woods should be used.
The scorecards do not have a course layout which is a hinderance if you have never played the course before. The greens are in good shape for this late in the year. Two of the holes hold water so they create a natural hazard which is rough.
I was really looking forward to playing this course and for 19.00 from Golf Now it was a good deal. I will go back but only after I examine the course layout more thoroughly.
It should be noted that a GPS may take you to the old clubhouse so make sure to type in the address not the course name.
Good layout for public course
This facility has a good layout for a public course. In addition it has a good practice facility that's easily accessible. Staff is friendly and courteous. Greens are fast
The course is in great shape and is relatively flat.
The course is relatively flat but challenging for me. The setup of hole #11 could be dangerous on busy days. You have to cross the driving path to get to the tee box.
Risk/Reward
The course overall was in very good shape. The greens wer soft and receptive but rolled very smoothly and quick. They wer some of the best rolling greens I have played this year.
There are some good risk reward holes and itf the wind is blowing (which it ws) be sure to take an extra club or two. The line of sight on this course made it look deceptively short so be sure of your yardages before selecting a club.
All in all I was very pleased and would definitely play the course again when in the St Louis area
Good course conditions
The course conditions were very good. You can get good value with the hot deals. At regular price it isn't a good deal. The pace of play has been slow in most of the rounds I have played here this year.
New layout, still enjoyable.
I have played at the Quarry both before and after their recent renovation following the tornado damage in April 2011. The new layout flows well for the most part--the exception being the awkward drive up to and back from the elevated 11th tee (formerly #2).
The feel of the course is one of being in nature rather than in the middle of a housing development, which is no fun. You will regularly see turtles, great blue herons and other wildlife near the course.
The course is kept in good condition and the staff are friendly. Overall I would recommend it to all golfers who are looking for a fun, moderately challenging course in a convenient location, near Creve Coeur Lake.
Fun and Challenging Course
Course appeared well maintained and provided a fun and challenging experience.
Great course. Great value
This course is a gem. New management has done wonders to improve the overall experience and enjoyablity. The course was in great condition and the recent addition of the par 3 hole to replace/eliminate the old #1 is a huge improvement. The location near Creve Coeur Lake makes it convenient to get to and the scenery is wonderful. This course, especially if played all the way back, is a challenge for even the best of golfers. I highly recommend it.
Fun Course
I have only played this course a few times. It plays long from the black tees and forces you to used the long irons allot. Course was in good shape and priced right. Worth playing.
Great course and great price. Highly recommended.
I really enjoyed this course. The green were really nice. The course layout is nice and not too difficult. The staff is nice.
I rented golf clubs which were Nike. The clubs were almost new.
I would recommend this course to anyone. I will play this course again when I'm back in town.
Challenging course.
Very, very nice course. Was in excellent condition even though we were in middle of a drought! Friendly staff, the starter gave excellent advice for which set of tees to play from.
Even with the correct tees, course was still quite a challenge. Good/correct distances for our skill levels. I didn't make a putt all day but it wasn't because of the greens, they were excellent.
Beautiful scenery too, saw a couple deer and several geese.
poor
When we arrived, we were told the course was closed. No mention that morning on Golfnow at 9 am when it was booked.
