Twilight Golf
Friendly staff welcomed me, seemed interested if I would get all 18 holes in. The course was well kept, and being a friday evening there were not many golfers on the course. Pandemic is striking again, so that may had something to do with it, but all in all I had a wonderful evening here.
Course has improved
It has been a couple years since I last played the course. Fairway is now clear of overhanging tree limbs, The fairways have come long way and are getting better. Staff is friendly. Very happy on how far this course has come.
First time
The course needs some maintenance done! Rough areas and the fairways have overgrowth going on! Course layout is good, staff very friendly! Give it a try!!!
Tight, challenging course - but it eats golf balls
This my second time playing Fairview, and I've learned that it's more enjoyable if you keep the driver in the bag and use your irons to funnel your way through the tight, tree-lined fairways.
The pros: the greens were in excellent condition, and the course was plenty challenging. I thought the staff was very friendly (e.g., a course ranger helped look for one of my balls). The pace of play (about 3:30) was a plus, and there is very little sand on the course, which is fine with me. The water placement was great on a few holes, and made you carefully select a club from the tee.
The cons: the course could use some tree trimming and some weed spray. There were several shots where I thought the removal of a tree or the trimming of branches would make the course a lot more fun. The most frustrating part, however, is the rough, which is filled with thick, tall clover. I thought we spent way too much time trying to find balls that just missed the fairway or rolled off the edge. We ended up coming up a with a free drop rule to compensate for this issue.
Unless you can go tee-fairway-green on every shot (which is nearly impossible given the tight fairways and numerous trees), I'd highly suggest you bring some extra balls.
Finally, I paid $40 (plus tax) to play this course. That's a little steep when I can play nicer, wider, and better-maintained courses in Kansas City for the same price or less.
This course requries good drives to score well
Large trees line most fairways, which requires good drives and fairway shots to score well. The course was well maintained for the amount of play it receives. The greens are good size and are difficult enough to challenge most players. I would recommend this course.
Short course with some difficult holes
I played this course for the first time yesterday. I was impressed with how true the greens were, although they were a little slow. The fairways were lined with trees so you have to be accurate with your drives, and the fairways are reasonably wide. We had a good time and will go back.
