The fairways were in rough shape. Greens were in good condition though.
Under $40 bucks in St. Louis County
First and foremost I’ve always liked playing Normandie. Great layout. Tees off at 8:15 and was done by 10:30. The fee was under $40 and the condition would resemble the price.
I just hope that after the Nicklaus company rehabs the corse the price does not sky rocket.
This course was in terrible shape.
I know that it is late in the season and that often courses get tired looking in the fall. But this course had maybe one or two well maintained bunkers, many of the tee boxes had little to no grass left in them and the greens were in average condition. Ultimately, the course has fun and challenging holes. But it simply is not a $55 for 18 course. Unless this course gets some major repairs or there is a cost adjustment. I will be searching elsewhere for future outings.
It lives again
I heard that Nicklaus design will begin renovations in November… this community really to save this. Maybe the oldest course in the city. I’ve played there many times hope to play it many more before and after the renovations. It was dormant but enjoyable.. great layout and greens were in good early season conditions..
Always a test
Very good old school course. Played 2 days before Christmas so in good shape for winter time. Greens in good shape and surprisingly quick. Good time and good value.
Great classic layout
Played in mid-December, so fairways were dormant. The design is a classic 100 year-old layout. Lots of mature trees, hills and some blind shots. Greens were in really good shape. Bunkers were non-existent - no sand at all. Tee boxes were ok. Some were pretty good and some were bare.
Good value.
I always enjoy Normandie. Solid bang for the buck. Greens are in good shape. Lots of leaves when I played but they were in the process of clearing them so that might not be an issue now. I think it's a fun layout and it's very walkable with minimal distance between the holes. One negative is that Tee boxes are concrete which is tough for me with my long tees. I am not sure what is going on with hole 18 either. I played from the whites and it measured 230+ yards to the flag into the wind. Driver on a par 3, that's a first.
Normandie Golf
I liked the course layout but sand traps were in bad shape. Had to play all sandtraps as ground under repair. I hoping the course will invest to get that fixed because the course was good for the value.
Entertaining layout; Can’t wait for the redesign by Jack
Wanted to play “The Rock” one last time before Jack Nicklaus redesigns it. It is still an entertaining layout but the course isn’t in great shape and past its prime.
Tee boxes and fairways are beat down. Cart paths are all broken up, too. Greens were solid but very slow. The course has fun elevation changes but I won’t miss No. 4. That hole never treats me well. I hope the fifth doesn’t change too much. I’ve almost made two aces there and want to keep trying! The final hole is a long par 3 that is over 260 and a beast. I never was able to hit my tee shot on the green.
Normandie used to be a great course and had its time but I think everyone will be eager to see Jack’s redo of the place. See you down the road!
