Avoid the league golfers
The pace of play was unbelievably slow - We got stuck behind league play at the turn. I'm not sure if they were golfing or practicing for an Easter egg hunt.
Poor management
Course OK. Management poor. Asked us to quit playing after only nine holes due to overbooking individual play before tournament. Gave rain check for only nine holes. Rip off.
PERFECT DAY
The great day really started just finding Sunset Hills Golf Course. Enjoyable ride down West Watson through winding forested road. The course, surprisingly has a links flavor as trees are surely not the dominant feature, although there are plenty. Many fairways fairly wide, and tree lines give way to opposing fairway. A number of small greens, which I personally like. Old time golf.
Got good roll on the greens, which were average in speed. Fairways were OK and rough was cut short. Don't believe I saw any sand traps on the course. Chance to make a good score.
Main difficulty on course involves water, of which there is a lot. Lakes, creeks, little ponds scattered here and there. There is nothing a solid hit won't traverse, if you don't choke. I got bitten once by water over the rise I was unaware of, although the card shows location of water.
As nobody was in front of us, we played 18 holes in 3 1/2 hours. We were lucky in this regard.
Good course, setting, and weather = good time
Fun Course
The course has a nice layout and some fun holes. Fairways are a little tight but the greens are in great shape.
poor customer service
My wife and I were paired up with a couple, one of which had only played once before. While she was doing well it was taking a little longer to play. We let some people play through which extended our time. We still finished in just under 5 hours. At the 16th green a member of the staff came out and chastised us for going to slow. He was not nice about it at all and made the new player feel bad about her being there. The staff member said that they wanted to go home because the wanted to celebrate the 4th. We were done a few minutes before 7 pm. We were never told that we had to be off early because they wwere closing.
Great course.
The course was in good condition. Good course for the money. Great food!
Great and friendly please
the course was in OK condition. the greens were good fairways were a little shaggy the true highlight of the course was the pace of play. everybody played with speed on their mind and bill at the grill has amazing barbecue next time I go I may not even play golf I just may eat lunch there. you should try it
TERRIBLE!!
I had a terrible experience the first and what will be my only time playing sunset hills. The only thing good about this course is the greens. yes i know this is a big part but when your chances of landing in grass versus the many bald spots in the fairway and the rough is fifty fifty and this is EVERY hole. when hitting off of dirt your chances decrease of hitting those very nice greens. For the price they charge you to play here i would expect to at least have half the fairways have no bald spots in them and the staff i would think should be courteous. Now i went on a sunday and the weather was beautiful. As one would expect if was busy. This is not my problem my problem is when i asked a course member if i could just play the front again to play a little quicker. Not an unreasonable request i dont believe. after asking this i was told No that it was a busy day and if i didn't like it to just go home!! To me this this was extremelly rude. i understand that it was busy and did not know they had CYC but this is not how one expects to be treated just for asking a question. They were very unprofessional. if you like rude people and hitting off of dirt this is the course for you! It is not however a couse me or any of my friends will be returning to.
Not impressed.
The course was not terrible but certainly wasn't great. The $45 greens fee was way too steep for this course. I expected better fairways and course conditions for $45. This is a $30 course.
joke was on us
Directions took us to sunset hills country club.....they changed the name from country lakes to country hills...there are no hills!...very misleading...took some grief from my buddies for booking this round.
Worst fairways I've ever played
This course was a disappointment. Wanting to check out a new course in the area, we chose this one. The greens were in good shape and the weather was beautiful, but that is the only thing good about the experience. The fairways, if you can call them that, were the worst I've ever played. There was very little grass and there was no differentiation between it and the rough. $45 is way too expensive for these conditions. We will not be back
Terrible Conditions for the Price
I typically do not believe in writing bad reviews but have to after playing here. The greens and tee boxes are outstanding, but the fairways/rough (there is no difference between the two) are the absolute WORST I have ever seen. Forget trying to play the ball up because you will have a difficult time finding any worthwhile grass to place your ball. Pitching and chipping decently is hopeless due to the conditions.
There is no possible way to justify paying $45 to play this course. Half of that--maybe--but ONLY due to having very nice greens. If a course cannot be rehabilitated due to lack of money or other conditions, then you cannot charge these kinds of rates. Our group were all first-time visitors and will not even consider returning unless the rates are cut at least in half. I am not a snob about course conditions, but I expect the price to reflect the experience. Plus, I know there are plenty other courses at half these prices with far better value.
A tale of 2 courses
I want to love this course and at the same time there are a few things to dislike. The tee boxes and greens were in amazing shape and the water hazards come into play in over half the jokes which leads to some creative shots. However, there is no distinguishable difference between the fairway and rough. The fairways weren't like anything I've seen and was very much like the rough, if not worse.
With some money they could mnake this into a cow pasture
To call this place a cow pasture is insulting cow pastures. The greens keeper must be a 15 year old with a broken lawn mower. Congrats guys this is hands down the worst golf course I have ever played.
condition of course
the course is not in very good condition. the price is high for the condition of the course. the greens are ok but everything else is fair at best
Sunset
Pristine greens and tee boxes! Unfortunately all the work in those areas is not reflected in the fairways, and overall quality of the course. Great staff and excellent food! True bistro quality sandwiches.
not bad for this time of year
Pretty decent course for this time of year. extremely slow pace of play.
enjoyable course abit flat though!
I've played Sunset Hill several times; it is a good course to practive on, very generous wide fairways on most holes, with a couple that are testy. Enjoyable round of golf, great to practice on for the season! fairways and greens in good condition usually.
Sunset Hills
Very bad day, course seems very interesting, however may play a little slow on a busy day, some short par 4's but will be fun I think. Big hitters would be a problem, but a short hitter who can hit his locations could have fun.
