A pretty winter day. Photo submitted by geno929 on 01/20/2013
Emerald Greens Golf Club
My fellow golfers and myself were very satisfied with the round of golf at Emerald Greens. It was very challenging and we had a great time. The fairways were in excellent condition and most of the greens were also. Terry Mitchell
Challenging Course
Tee boxes in decent shape, fairways in very good condition, greens in great condition. We had an excellent golf experience. This course has some great dog leg holes, lots of elevation changes, well placed bunkers and water hazards. You must place your shots accordingly to score well on this course. I would recommend this course to anyone looking for a good round of golf.
Worth the trip
It's about 25 minutes outside of St. Louis but worth the drive. Very memorable layout. Conditions are okay. It looks well manicured but the greens are incredibly slow. The rough is so easy to lose a ball in. Rangers do a good job of keeping pace up. Would play again.
Very Slow Greens and Grumpy Pro Shop Attendant
Generally, I like this course and have most often played it in the fall. Pace of play is always great and the course conditions are as well. This was my first time playing here in the summer.
Overall, the course was in good shape with the exception of the greens. Not sure why but they are extremely slow. There wasn't a lot of recent rain; they were just very hairy. You have to hammer putts to get them anywhere near the hole even on downhill putts.
Additionally, the shop attendant that day was not friendly whatsoever. We took a cart down to the putting green, rolled a few, went to tee off, and it wouldn't start. I walked back up to grab another and he acted as if he was majorly inconvenienced to have to go get a stalled cart.
Maybe I caught Emerald Greens on a bad day all around but it has been great in the past and can be better.
Most likely won't go back
Course is in moderate shape. Would be helpful if pro shop associate would let you know that you're starting on the back 9 before you start. Greens were very slow as people were out drowning them in water which was slowing the pace of play. Decent food in pro shop. If you're not in the fairway, best of luck either finding your ball or hitting out of the "rough"/mud. Glad I found a deal on golfnow to play because paying regular fees for this course is a shame.
Decent, but SLOOOW
Played in the day before the 4th so I knew it would be a bit slow, but the front 9 was absurdly slow. Took us almost 3 hours to play 9 holes, luckily we got passed the slow foursome and played the back 9 in 1.5 hours. Considering that the course knew they would be swamped, they still didn't have a starter or any Marshalls on the course which is very poor planning on their part.
As far as the actual golf, the course is decent. There are many better courses in St. Louis, but if you can get a good deal it is probably worth it. Not a very long course, but the layout forces you to lay up a lot. Greens were very very slow, probably the slowest I've ever played on which was a bit frustrating, but they were in good shape.
Overall a decent course, but I wouldn't play here if you know it might be busy.
Early in the aeason
Course was pretty rough. The greens were very Sandy. Obviously they had been arriated recently. I would have appreciated knowing that ahead of time!
The fantastic golf course is here.
water,bunker,up and down..."Proshop" is friendly..etc.Really good.
Hidden gem
I had never played here before and am really happy that I did today. I'm a good golfer, 66 years old and played from the second longest tees, the whites. I shot a 78 and was very pleased (except for not adapting to the slow greens; I left a lot of putts short. The course has a great layout, makes you think before hitting many shots (target golf) and is very scenic. The front nine and back nine are totally different; the front is woodsy and hilly and the back is more open and rolling. Both present a challenge. The price was right and was a great value for this course. Put this course on your bucket list and play it. It's great.
Nice course, the staff was not.
Course was great but two of the staff members were jerks.
