Above average with some still to be desire
Greens are okay, roll a little on the slower side. A little beat from poor or no ball mark repair. B+
Fairways good, some spots needing work but give them an A-.
Rough is random. Some areas don’t seem to grow in resulting in bare spots. Rough gets a B.
Bunkers rarely in great shape. Either hard as a rock or basically mud. Obvious lack of maintenance priority. C-.
Pace was not too great. Saturday afternoon round averages 4.5. Little slow for most. They also have an abnormally high number of cart path only days. C-
Layout is pretty neat, 3 very different 9s. Prairie seems to be the wonky one, however. B+
Great grass range, chipping green/range, and putting green. Excellent practice and warm up options. A
Everyone was pretty friendly, not overly outgoing, but friendly when addressed. A
Above average food at turn, but can slow okay down. People wanna finish their grilled hot dog or sandwich before teeing off in back. A-
Amazing course
Truthfully beautiful course. Very difficult and challenging. No complaints!
Bunkers and greens
Bunker were not raked or cared for. Greens very slow.
Almost a great course except for pace of play.
First time playing this course. One of the best conditioned courses Ive played in the area. Conditions were consistent on every hole. Tee boxes flat and short for the most part. Only thing that made my round unpleasant was pace. We played Meramec/Prairie. Things were flowing for the most part until the back 9. Mustve been a big group/bachelor party. We waited for 15min at the tee box with another group and left because it took so long. Hopefully its better next time.
Fun layout
First time playing the course but really enjoyed the layout . Wasn’t just a grip it and rip it course. Demanded some thought and shot placement. Tee boxes, fairways, and greens were in great condition. Thanks so much. Will play again next time in town.
First time playing didn’t live up to hype
Course was very nice and greens were very fast. Starter and his crew were less than friendly and acted out out when asked simple questions for being a first timer. GPS couldn’t figure out which 9 we were on which provided some adventurous blind shots not knowing what was ahead. Decent value for a Friday afternoon but for me a friendly face and good customer service goes along way which this course didn’t live up to.
Beautiful Course
Have played here a few times and the course is great. Rarely a dry spot out there and the greens are VERY fast. Would highly recommend and certainly worth the money.
Downhill - New Pro
I’ve been playing this course for 10 plus years and this is the worst it’s ever been. Kevin used to be the pro and the course was in much better shape. The tee boxes were trashed. They don’t know how to move the tees up or back to prevent this? It’s so easy. The bunkers looked like they haven’t been raked in months and are pretty much dirt. Once again an easy thing to do. Greens were in good condition but they were very very fast for June. I can promise they will be burnt up by mid July/August. Take your 80 bucks elsewhere so you don’t torture yourself with a 6 hour round due to slow players. Course isn’t worth more than $40 bucks. That’s being generous. The owner clearly only cares about the food which is mediocre at best. 2 of out 10 overall. Huge decline since Kevin left.
Tapawingo Day after Memorial Day
Very scenic course. Played the Woodlands / Prairie combo. The woodlands tee boxes are complete garbage. They are on the same level as Normandie tee boxes. But at least at Normandie you know what you’re getting for $25. The Woodlands greens aren’t good at all. Especially considering what this place charges on the weekends. Even a hot deal on GolfNow was overpriced for the conditions on Woodlands. The boxes and fairways on Prairie were in good shape overall except for the giant washout area on #9 fairway. The greens were slightly better on Prairie compared to woodlands but not by much. I don’t want to hear the excuse that “it’s been a tough spring, blah blah.” Gateway, Landings, Spencer, even Normandie greens are in great shape by now. I will give this course a year or two to hopefully recover to what once was one of the better courses in the Stl area before I come back.
