Beautiful Clubhouse. Well maintained course.
I lived at 26 mile and Mound and never knew this place was there. When we showed up, it presented itself well, it was not crowded, and played great for both beginners and advanced golfers. The Clubhouse has beautiful landscaping and you can tell a great deal of effort was put into maintaining the course and facility.
Great course, but SLOW pace of play
We had high hopes for this course. We're not from Detroit and Cherry Creek was rated one of the top courses in the area. The pace of play was SO slow that we skipped a few holes to get thru about 12 before dark and we started at 12:30. There was a wedding while we were there too, I understand weddings bring in a lot more money than golfers, but they closed the snack shop and blocked everything off, which was a little frustrating considering we were waiting so long between holes. I would've loved to give a better review, but sad to say, we will not return.
Cherry creek
Excellent course , need more beverage carts on the course especially on holidays 1 cart on a Saturday not enough . Management needs to do better at catering to customers on the course.
Ruined by slow pace
Golf course is in great shape and offers a fair challenge. Pace of play was so bad that I wouldn't go back unless playing extreme twilight. Ranger apologized at the turn but not doing anything about it prior is unacceptable.
Great Course
Played for the second time yesterday . GolfNow made it affordable and playing as a single, got paired with a great couple . Course was in Great shape and had a good mix of challenging and easier holes. Par threes are a bit short. Overall experience was a great day on the course
Very nice everything
Challenging layout in excellent condition with a nice practice facility.
Pace of play was pathetic, but eventually the starter
came around & told the 3 some they're holding up
the entire front 9 .He told us ,that he told em to hit from the set of tees in front of them . For some reason 2somes & singles don't seem to join up together which makes a big difference. I've seen this to often.
Excellent course ,practice facility . To many people watching tv (pga pros)waiting to hit from 250 yards out when their drives only go 240 play ready golf and utilize the cart . So a round takes no more than 4hrs we will all enjoy that
I like to play from around 6200. I don't always hit the fairway but I don't allow myself to get a hole behind, either.
Erle Webber here, General Manager of Cherry Creek. Thank you for your feedback. You are spot on with your comments. While driving the course just yesterday and looking at some project work, it was remarkable how many groups play from the blue tees and don't have a single person in their foursome who hit a ball in the fairway much less in play. We always encourage golfers to play to their ability and/or handicap, but that never goes well. We have had great discussion about this as a business. Amongst a great many confusions in golf, we are convinced that their is a significant misconception that exists amongst golfers with respect to the traditional white tees. I can't tell you how many people think that the white tee is relegated to seniors. Inconsequently, these same people think the forward tees are just for women. We are looking at a whole new color system for marking the course complete with handicap-tee suggestions. It won't necessarily change things for everyone...but perhaps it will for some. Any improvement is just that, improvement. Thanks again for your fair comments and your business.
The course is making a great comeback
This course is being well kept this year. The greens are fast and true. The fairways are mowed well and are firm so you get a lot of roll out. I heard there is a new super taking care of it and their team is doing a great job! In previous years I would only play this course once for the year because the conditions were not so good. This year I have already played it 3 times because of the grounds keeping. I hope they improve the sand in the bunkers next. that is the only weak spot on the course.
Thanks for your feedback John. We do have a new Superintendent and he is doing a marvelous job. The current dry spell we are in is making his life difficult, but he knows that is part of the job.
You will be happy to know that we are in the midst of a bunker "Re-conditioning," initiative which will take place all year. We have rated our bunker condition on a scale of 1-5 with 1 being the most in need of attention. We are adjusting sides, profiles, fixing or replacing liners where necessary and have bought and are spreading over 200 ton of bunker sand this Spring,Summer and Fall. There is a dedicated three man team facilitating these improvements and they just finished one of the green side bunkers on #5 yesterday. It is a vast improvement. They are working on the fairway bunker on #1 today as I speak (it is a monster!)
Hope to see you out again soon and thanks again for the fair and objective feedback. Much appreciated.
Great course. Bad day
I really enjoy playing the course. But they sold way to many time slots this day and had to wait on every hole
Ranger was terrible
I had a great day with my wife and two buddies. Only downside was the ranger talking about how we were behind at the turn. I tried to let the threesome behind us go through. I guy went past, the two ladies went in to the clubhouse. 20 minutes later we finally tee off on 10. Terrible course management.
This Course is The Most Poorly Run Course in a 50 mi. Radius
For this round, I booked a hot deal online using GolfNow. It was a mid morning tee time on a Sunday, and I realized it would be quite busy. I ended up teeing off as a solo player behind several other larger groups ahead of me. The 3-some behind me did not want me to play with them. They were foreign speaking, and the ranger and I agreed that we didn't want to make them uncomfortable. After playing 2 holes at pace, the next three holes took me, as a single almost, 1.5 hours to complete.
This brings me to the Par 5 5th hole. Where there is a Six cart backup waiting to tee off. After waiting for well over an hour and a half, I was on the tee box waiting to put a ball in play, and counted 11 carts waiting behind mine to tee off. After I teed off, I picked up my ball and drove in to the clubhouse because the next tee box had 7 more carts waiting to tee off on the par 4 sixth.
There was no ranger on either of the two holes speeding up pace of play. But I figured I needed to call it a day having played five holes in 3.5 hours. When I went into the clubhouse, I saw not one, but two rangers standing and lounging near the front desk, doing absolutely nothing to help with the pace of play out on the course. I proceeded to ask if there was any way I could at least get a nine hole voucher due to the abysmal way the entire day was being handled, and because I "used GolfNow" they refused to refund me a round or any of my money. They proceeded to tell me that the Par 5 is always where the course clogs up, and I asked why they weren't out there helping speed things up. Their response was "there really isn't anything we can do." Which is what the receptionist also told me about my refund.
I have played this course several times over the last few years, and while it is generally in good shape with friendly staff, on May, 22 2016 it was abhorrent. I will not be playing at the course any time soon. And I truly hope that Golf Superintendent Tim Jenkins, and Director of Golf Will Hewett will strive to hire more competent staff, and bring back some level of competency to a course that should be currently avoided at all cost.
For Claiming to hold "Exceptional Golf and Events Since 1995," you would hope that adjustments will be made moving forward. Because as I and several others I have spoken with about similar experiences, the creed of Cherry Creek should be "Exceptional Golf & Events from 1995-2015." Because in 2016 it is a complete joke.
Perhaps the course didn't relay this to you, but the reason the course can't refund you for a Hot Deal is because that money is paid directly to GolfNow. To get a refund you would need to contact GolfNow directly.
One Of The Nicest
I personally think its one of the nicest in Shelby/Macomb/Washington Twp Area. Used the golf now app & played 18/$24.50 can't really beat that for nicest course around. Great staff, great clubhouse .. The bathrooms are clean & the food is amazing ! 8/10
One of the best in town
Cherry Creek is simply one of the best public courses in southeastern Michigan, period. They keep the course in great shape all year round. It has a country club feel, but is relaxed. Absolute great experience every time I play there.
Greens are great
Pleasant surprise considering the time of year.
Greens are in great shape and the fairways are in good shape. Will be back when all the amenities are open. Maybe sooner.
Great course but
Great course but front desk customer service very low quality!
Course aireation of greens in process
Mgt. did not plan intelligently for back 9 being closed,
due to greens being worked on.
First tee(no 1) player's had to wait excessively for player's making the "turn" from No. 9 green .
Staff has "un-welcome " attitude with customers.
Greetings are cold - Like "You're lucky to be playing this course". Private clubs treat guests better.
Course condition was poor for the green fee. Front nine greens were pitted fairways were soggy (haven't had rain in a week).
I won't be back...
nice
It was nice. Very hilly. Group behind us was up our back all day.. the only bad thing.. besides that it was fun
Great Fairways
My playing partner couldn't make it last minute so I went to the course for my tee time. The pro shop sent me out early - first off. I flew around in just under 2 hours thanks to them. The fairways were in amazing shape, the greens were true and quick. The only downfall were some of the tee boxes weren't in the best of shape. Otherwise a great day!
This has to be a fake review. Fast pace of play at cherry creek? Not in my lifetime.
