Good Local 9
Not exactly a destination course but in all fairness they aren't trying to be that.
Its a local 9-hole track which is conveniently located in the heart of Derry, NH.
The course is overall pretty flat which makes it easy to walk.
Holes are pretty straightforward, nothing too unique or exciting here.
Conditions are good, not great. Does not drain particularly well after heavy rains.
Good place to work on your game or squeeze in a quick 9 after work.
Great course for iron practice
Nice little course for practicing your irons on..a couple of nice driving holes..over all..a sweet little course!!
I enjoy playing there..can't wait to go back..
Fine course fine time
For a first go around the course layout is a little confusing, holes are scattered and it can be difficult to find your box. That being said I thought the course was very well maintained, good greens, plenty of sand for an added challenge and an overall good day. Went on a busy day and lots of push carts slowed everything down which was tough but not unusual.
A Friendly, Fun 9 Hole Track
It had been about 15 years since I last played Hoodkroft. It just a little outside my home area and I just happened to think of it while I was in Salem, NH one day. The sign out front boasted "NH's Best Greens" and they could have a solid case for that. After the winter of winter kill on some many New England greens, theirs were in excellent condition for a busy public course. They putted very true with excellent speed. The slopey greens made for some challenging putting. The rest of the course was in good shape. Some of the fairways had invasions of clover and there were many clumps of plantain grass popping up. The tees were unlevel in places and in need of some releveling. The back tees offer a nice challenge and there are a few hazards that can come into play on short or errant approach shots. The staff was very friendly. The senior woman who was the starter, along with her dog, was nice to talk to. A golfer, who may have been the owner, asked me how my day was and thanked me for coming out on a hot July day. Hoodkroft looks to be a great locals course, with quite a bit of competent senior and female players. It is a fun spot for a quick nine or an 18 hole match. I will not wait 15 years to return. It needs to work its way into my more frequent rotation.
