Mixed emotions
Great value, beautiful views, challenging holes. Disappointed in the menu, lack of beverage cart, very few clothing options overall, none for women. Would have been helpful to have ranger to speed up play. Nineteenth hole great idea for warming up. unfortunately, Rick had to do everything on his own, the bar and the pro shop. He was very pleasant about it and wish he could’ve had some help.
Overall, we enjoyed our time playing and would do it again.
Course is in terrible shape
This course is definitely not worth the money. The greens are half dead, most holes don't have a fairway cut and there are weeds all over the place. The range also wasn't open as they didn't have anyone there to collect balls. The only thing going for it was the lack of people/pace of play. This course has so much potential as the layout is pretty good, but for now save your money and play somewhere else.
Course is going downhill
I think the course has an interesting and fun layout. But they seemed to always struggle keeping it green. This year was by far the worst I’ve seen it! Greens were terrible! Most greens were more dead than alive.
The staff has always been very friendly and were the same this time.
But the course isn’t worth the money.
So much potential
I've read the reviews and they're not as bad as it is made out to be. There is so much potential here, it's silly. Undulating greens. Hills, mounds, forced carries, uphill par 5, etc. Potential up the ying yang. One very bad mostly brown some green green that still putt fine, just ugly.
We played 36 and the sprinklers were on the entire time. Sometimes watering the rough or the woods, but you could see effort was being made.
If the owner decided to invest in a new sprinkling system this course could easily be a 4 star course. Not bad for the $39 all you can golf deal. Worth $49 on GN? Depends on the prices of all of the other local courses. We came specifically for 36 holes on a Saturday and were willing to consider paying somewhere else but decided to go another 18 at Black Bear because it was still a decent enough course.
Conditions are a little rough but still ok for the value
Course was a little rough, greens were spotty, not sure if because covid or what but still playable and good value for the money.
Really?
In short, the fairways are rock hard with no watering. Greens for the most part are bumpy and hard as rocks. Bunkers are not groomed and rock filled. Former ponds are now moon craters with weeds. Other than all of that, pace of play was very good as no one was on it. Layout is still very nice and the staff is trying to some degree to bring the course back.
Nice Layout, Under Watered
Enjoyed the course layout, but the fairways were underwatered and very hard. Greens were generally ok with some very poor spots. Challenging layout but at times very hard to play due to conditions.
Poor Conditions
the Fairway was like a rough, the rough had not been cut in a while, the greens had not been cut and were very slow with dirt and sand patches. I scored well because it was very dry and there was roll.
Needs a lot of work
We purchased a package off of Group Golfer over the winter for 36 holes plus lunch and a ball marker. Great deal. Then we got to the course...As you drive in you see tee boxes that have dandelions knee high. This used to be a great course, with a great layout, views, and value. This place just needs money. Tee boxes are weed ridden, fairways are barely distinguishable, greens are burnt out and dead. It has the bones of a great track, but sadly its barely a golf course anymore. If you're looking for a cheap round and don't care about how the course is manicured, this is for you. Now I can see why they are not part of the Gaylord Golf Mecca. Hopefully someone buys this place and restores it to what it once was.
Rough Shape
The course is in very rough shape. Fairways are more like a struggling to survive second cut. Greens were very slow and needing to be groomed badly. Hoping they are planning on spending a lot of time(and money) to return to its once great splendor. Very sad to see it in this shape.
Don't bother
What a mess, from the parking lot to the broken down steps that lead to the clubhouse to uncut greens.I would never go there again
Diamond in the rough.
The course is a fun and challenging. The tee boxes and some greens could be kept up better. Sand traps could be kept up better as well. Great value for the price.
Course is gone........
Bought a group golfer because I had played it in the past. The course used to be solid.
The course is completely gone. Fairways are spotty at best and what grass there is in the fairway has not been mowed in at least a week.
From the tee the fairway is not distinguishable from the rough. Tee boxes are a complete joke. Uncut weeds and very spotty clumps of uncut grass.
The greens are dead in many areas and have not been cut in at least 3-4 days. I would estimate they are rolling at a 5 or less on the stimpmeter.
Bunkers are weeds and rocks. Unplayable.
Do not waste your money. Course is to far gone to come back. Just close it. Seriously.
Pace of play was good due to us being the only ones on the course.
dont waste time or money
played memorial day weeekend on a group golfer, me and buddy, course was in bad shape. was told many excuses from irrigation specialist quit , to greens keeper was new and just started, but to give them 3 weeks and they will be back to prime. Returned end of June to find it even worse, bare spots on greeens, Tee boxes over grown, all the lining ripped out of ponds so no water hazards, rock traps instead of sand traps, the weed to grass ratio was 12000 to 1. my dirt road is better manicured then this place now. poor management, and when we complained we were told sorry. will not return unless they pay me to play and review as a courtesy otherwise, too many other options in area.
Great Value Great time
This is what you want in a rural golf course - great views cut out of a forest and great use of hills to provide fun tee boxes w/ cool vistas and uphill challenging blind shots. The Staff was very relaxed and fun, Eric specifically was very helpful. The course was wide open. A course like this in a big city market or in a Golf Destination area would cost at least twice as much hence the great value. If you are at TreeTops or other courses nearby and want a fun day that is challenging but also fair and want to have a fun time w/ your pals - this is the place.
