Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 2018.

Situated midway between Belvidere and Oxford, Apple Mountain Golf & Country Club has been recognized as one of New Jersey's must-play courses. The course was built on an apple orchard, providing fragrant apple blossoms in the spring and colorful foliage in the fall. The unique design was built on a hillside, which in itself presents many challenges to golfers. The dramatic elevation changes from pin to green present difficult lies on the approach shot. There is no sand on the golf course, but with water on 11 holes, and demanding greens, sand traps will hardly be missed. A local magazine dubbed Apple Mountain Golf & Country Club's signature 17th hole one of the most perfect in the state. This par-6 hole was once the site of a ski slope. The hole doglegs down a mountain with treacherously positioned trees along the right.

Golf in February? Yes!

Took advantage of a great weather day to make my way out. Caught an excellent "winter special". There were four holes that were cart path only which was fine. Only gripes I had were the cart paths definitely need work and the typical hole 2 and 11 confusion. For the time of year conditions were great. Enjoyable day!

Ride-em-bronco

Fix the cart paths so I don't need a back support belt and I can stop worrying about my kidney function. This is main the reason I don't recommend it.

Great Staff but not course

I worked here last year and never got payed because they are bankrupt and cannot take care of their course. The staff itself is great but I never met the owners. The course used to be really well put together but now it is a complete mess. Only pay 15 dollars max to come

Great Course and Inexpensive!

Admittedly, golfing in the fall with leaves on the ground produces a level of frustration not incurred during spring and summer. That said, and adjusting for the half dozen balls lost in the middle of the fairways, this course is one of my favorites in a 75 mile radius! It is ALWAYS a pleasure to golf here. From the picturesque views of the mountains and valleys leading into the Delaware Water Gap, to the challenges of elevated tees and greens, the only thing missing is sand bunkers which, frankly, I can do without!

Forgiving Fairways, Tough Greens

Loved playing this course. Fairways are nice and open for golfers who don't always hit the ball strait. But the green's are difficult, which makes for a really fun round of golf.

Beware of flying gnats and poor directions to the next hole

First let me say that I played from the back (blue) tees, playing the maximum distance on the course. This is a very nice and interesting course. In addition, the course was in really good shape and the greens in excellent shape. As I write all these good things about this course, a severe detriment in playing this course was flying gnats all around the course, especially teeing off. They flew in my ears, in my eyes and under my cap. They made teeing off unbearable on at least half the holes, if not more, as well as many times in the fairway. This problem affected a number of my shots, though I still managed 2 birdies and 6 pars in my round. I would have played much better on half the holes if it weren't for the gnats. Additional problems include poor signage and directions to the following holes. The other single that I played with and myself accidentally played the 12th hole instead of the third hole because the tees for the 12 were right next to the greens of the 2nd hole and there were no signs to help us. Many other players on the course had the same problem as us, trying to find the next hole. The course is very cheap as in stingy. Though there were many electric carts sitting by the clubhouse, the Pro Shop manager refused to give us our own separate carts because, how stated, "we don't make any money off of GolfNow reservations". There are almost no golf ball washers on the course (I found two, one with no water in it and one with just a little water in it). There is also no drinking water on the course, so I suggest bringing a cooler with drinks to the course. In addition, there are no showers in the club house. Since I had a 90 minute drive back home, after I played I had to wash up in the men's room sink. I had problems with my second shots on the uphill (upslope) holes, which all have a hill right before the green. I kept landing my second shot on the hills and the grass was really tough, so my chip shots (3rd shots) kept coming up well short of the hole, giving me a long par putt on these holes. The view from the 8th tee is fantastic. You can see for miles all around, the various hills and valleys, plus a view of the Delaware Water Gap.
My suggest to play this course is to wait until September when the weather is a little cooler and maybe the gnats will disappear. And remember, bring your cooler with drinks.

Course is very interesting with no sand bunkers. There see grass bunkers instead of sand

Weather was very hot. Greens where soft with a good honest roll. Fairways where in excellent condition The only major issue was the lack of drinking water on the course. It would have been nice to be told that upon check in

Best Value in Golf

Apple Mountain is one of the most scenic courses I've played on. Great vistas, including a beautiful view of the Delaware Water Gap. Lots of wild life, including deer, Hawks and wild turkey makes you feel immersed in nature. Some of the friendliest staff I've ever encountered and a great dining experience if you want to stick around after your round. All at unbelievably low prices! No sand traps, but be ready for some very challenging putting situations

Good Value

Have been here a few times during the week. early afternoon tee times and the course is usually populated by seniors and not too crowded. In a cart I have completed a round in 3 hours. Seniors will usually let me play thru. Greens are in very good condition. However, the rest of the course is not. Fairways are weed ridden and cart paths are horrific. However, for the money it is worth it, if you are in the area. Thru GolfNow I have paid between 17-30 with a cart. It would be a tough course to walk for 18.

AMGC

Fairly wide open course and no bunkers so very friendly for avg golfers. Watch wild shots from others. Play 17 as a par 6 with the far back tees. If using front tees only hit drive about 175 yards or or you will out drive the fairway. Scorecards yardage make the course seem longer than it plays. On avg each par 4/5 hole is 50 yards shorter.

Rained out

Very hard to rate this course , it started raining on the 6 th hole only finished 6 holes, you would think they would offer some type of refund or free round in the future. They offered nothing. Mother Nature wins again.

Nice Views but Poorly Maintained

The course has many beautiful views of the Delaware Water Gap, but the course itself is poorly maintained. The tee boxes were either overgrown or patchworked with sand, the fairways were full of dandelions, and the greens were fast and deceptive to read. There are many difficult elevation shots and many guarded greens with uphill approaches, which were very difficult to hold on the green on approach. I would play here again if it were very cheap, but it wasn't worth my drive or $20 for this visit
