Best public course in south jersy
This formally private course has always been legend in South Jersey and is now even better. The sand traps have been populated with fluffy white sand and formally punishing rough has been trimmed to a more reasonable level. The greens are still delightful with nice speed and challenging contours. Experienced players love this course as it requires a thoughtful strategy on every hole. However if you are a 30 handicap I would recommend something easier.
Glad it's not private anymore.
I played this course once when it was private years ago, and now that it's public, it hasn't missed a beat. Fast and perfectly conditioned greens, and fairways and tee boxes were in great shape too. A good challenge, and try to play it before it possibly gets developed or goes private again. I played for $41 on a hot deal which was amazing value. For $125, as much as I liked it, I still wouldn't pay that. There are a few great courses down the shore you can play for half of that after summer is over.
Bring Your "A" Game........
This course is “Challenging” to say the least. Many blind shots off the tee box and many elevation changes in the holes. Also, the greens were fast. I also do not think there is flat spot on any of the greens. Some of fairways do have some repair work being performed (due to the large amount of rain this summer). Many courses in the area are in the same boat. I hope this course is still public next year; I need another round make up for the last one…
Better have your A game
The club house and ammenities are top notch, but the course is in need of attention. Weather and or flooding must have reich havoc on this creek and tree lined course. There were a number of fairways with newly laid turf and ground under repair which takes from the overall experience. However, the greens were in great condition and the layout offers better players an exciting playground for shot shaping. Hopefully the club is able to turn around the membership and get this western New Jersey gem back into a real diamond in the rough. :0
Best course i've played
Woodcrest was in amazing shape... not many people out on the course when we went out so we didnt have to wait at all. Golfnow rate of $40 was awesome and I'd absolutely play for that rate again
It had the private course atmosphere
The course was challenging to me for playing it for the first time, the greens were in excellent conditions some of the fairways were under repair but not a big issue. I liked the view from the tee box on 11 and the par threes was scenic and fair.
Challenging layout, great greens.
Woodcrest is not the pristine privite track it used to be, but the new owners are definitely trying to maintain the quality of the greens, fairways, and lush rough. They have a few issues with a couple fairways, but it is evident that they are working through that issue and trying to prepare the fairways for fall and next year. Remember that this course was just recently purchased and I think the new owners are trying hard. The cost is a little steep for the conditions right now. Also, I would recommend that they make the rough a little closer cropped. With the narrow fairways, a good shot that rolls just off the fiarway is sometimes difficult to even locate, let alone attempt a shot other than a punch out. I think making the rough a little more playable will make the course more enjoyable for a wider range of players. Perhaps a second cut of rough would help. Overall this is a challenging layout, with very good conditions overall.
one of the nicest courses in the area..long time private, now public
Woodcrest is a very challenging and difficult course. Par 3's are from 140 yd to 210. Course is well bunkered and they are in great shape. i played this course many times over the years and I always enjoy going back.
Great course. Challenging holes.
One can only imagine what it was like to play this course when it was private and maintained. It is a fair but challenging course especially if it is your first time playing it without someone who is familiar with the course to explain some of the hole layouts. The greens are still great and roll true but some of the tee boxes and fairways are showing wear and minimal care.
As close to Private as it gets!
The course, like many has a few burnt areas in the fairways from the rain and heat, but otherwise it's great!. Unfortunately, the public doesn't repair ball marks on the greens, and it's a shame since they have some of the best greens in the area.
Unique course great design
the property on which the course is set makes for great views during the round. dramatic elevation changes, smaller but not tiny greens that roll true, and plenty of forced carries as well as water hazards make this a challenge for any golfer. not worth $100 but I'd say $60 is fair.
Verry happy to have had a chance to play this course.
A lot of challenging shots for a mid handicap player. Many were through a chute of trees or to an elevated green. The fast greens were in great shape and the undulations were tricky. I had so much fun here that I can't wait to go back.
Great layout with some tough holes, including a great finishing hole over water.
I have been wanting to place this course for 7 years and now that it is semi private, Woodcrest CC is a new monthly must play.
The greens were small, well maintained and they rolled fast and true. The layout was tougher than what I expected based on the total distance from the blue tees. You really need to golf your ball here and I bet playing here more often will allow me to to know where to position myself for my approaches to the greens and where to miss for better up&down chances.
Can't wait to go back.
Woodcrest is challenging but enjoyable course.
Woodcrest is reknowned for being a nicer course in our area. Now that its public non members have a chance to play. Golf Now had a really good deal ($45) that made it reasonable considering daily rates vary from $75 - $ 125. Definitely worth $45
A course with character. Provides an excellent test of your golfing skills.
This former private course is in great shape and will test all aspects of your game. Challenging but fair. Very highly recommended. GO PLAY!!
Course is coming back to it's original luster.
Was a member when it was private last year, and it seems the new owners are taking better care of things now that the legal issues are done with. Plain and simple, it's a great track and well worth the hot deal price we booked it for.
Good old Woodcrest
Love Playing this old course. Was in great shape and the rough was truly rough! a Must play.
Very well maintained
Course was in excellent condition. Very nice and fast greens
great parkland course has drainage issues
lots of trees, some tight fairways but great layout. greens in very good shape.tough first time nearly every hole is dogleg rough is very thick felt like a us open layout will be better next time.
Well maintained.
Other than the one hole that looked like it suffered water damage from standing water the course is well maintained. Nice greens, they were quick but rolled true.
