Hillsborough Country Club
About
Hillsborough Country Club is tucked away amongst the foothills of the Sourland Mountains. The golf course overlooks the beautiful Amwell Valley, sprawling across lush rolling hills gently sprinkled with mature trees. The par-70 layout is player friendly enough for all skill levels, it is even gentle enough for beginners. While it may not be what you're looking for if you want a long and challenging test, it's great for a casual round with a few tricky surprises. Accuracy will be generously rewarded but the golf course isn't overly punishing if you're slightly errant. Golfers will come across a fair amount of strategically placed sand traps as well as the occasional water hazard. In addition to the course, you can get even more short game practice in on Hillsborough Country Club's practice chipping and putting greens and there is also a driving range available.

Nice round at Hillsborough
1st time playing the course. Great views of the countryside from the hills on this course. Wind was a factor...Some interesting and fun holes. (11th Par 3 looking down a huge hill, also 11th Hole with 90 degree right turn) Greens were very fast, hilly and unforgiving. Grass was a bit high so there were some lost balls that should have been in plain site. Overall enjoyable round. I would return.
Good golf course, very good value
Fantastic views from many/most holes. Greens quite good.
Worst golf course I ever played
I have played Hillsborough Country Club a number of times in the past, use to play at least once a month. I loved it, it was challenging but not crazy long and the greens were always tough and there were rough spots here and there but for the most part the course was maintained.
Played on 8/10, this golf course is now in the worse condition of any golf course I have ever played. Playing the 3rd hole, I hit the fairway but the grass in the fairway was as long as the grass in the rough. On 4, there were mushrooms growing in fairway in front of the green, and there must have been 3 other holes with mushrooms in the fairway. Tee boxes were a mess, nothing was cut back, greens had dirt patches. In addition, on every hole I played the same groundskeeper was blowing leaves in front of me and on nine in the middle of the fairway they decided to have a golf school for kids.
Think you can't go wrong in NJ for $30...well here is proof you can. Just a shame.
Don’t Waste Your Money & Time
I paid $60 for a Sunday morning tee time, which is expected. However this was an awful experience. It looks like there’s 3 people working there , no rangers or anyone to keep pace of play on a fully booked day. It did storm earlier in the week but the course was AWFUL. Worst Greens i have ever seen. Alot of them were ripped up. The course is so narrow and all on top of each other. There were balls flying everywhere hitting trees. Fairways were rough shape as well. Bunker were rock beds filled with water. And the carts were ancient. Bad experience overall and won’t go back. If I pay $60, i expect at least a decent experience. They have alot of work to do.
Stay Away
Easily the worst source I have ever played - its criminal they charge 60 dollars for this place. The tee boxes are dirt and weeds, fairways are terrible, greens have dirt on them and the bunkers are dirt and rocks. On top of that, this is literally the only course that does not have any type of COVID protocals - ball cleaners and rakes still on the course, and nothing stoping the ball from going to the bottom of the hole. Way too many options close buy - chose one of them.
Terrible Condition
Course was in terrible condition. Granted there were major storms that earlier this week but several greens had patches with no grass and just mud. All the sand traps were missing sand and full rocks. The first fairway was as tall as the rough. The cart paths were narrow and falling apart, Will not be playing there again.
Course conditions need to be improved
T boxes are not well maintained and some greens are also going bad. If it continues this way might stop playing here. Must have played here 20 times atleast in last 2-3 years but only worth the $40 twilight time not the 60-65$ morning time.
Good value
Course was in good condition for end of July. Staff were very friendly. Shorter course, but still enough of a challenge to keep it fun. Holes a little closer together.
Hillsborough Country Club
Terrible course conditions. Dirt tee boxes, unkept fairways, dirt/gravel sand traps, and unkept greens. If you’re going to put a course on the side of a mountain you have to make the course playable and maintain course conditions.
Hillsborough never disappoints
Course is always fun. A lot of tight fairways makes it challenging.
Disgusting
I’ve never written a review for anything but Today I played Hillsborough country club and it was time to pop my cherry. If you enjoy Tee boxes with no grass, Fairways with deeper grass than the rough at Augusta, and best of all Greens with more Sand than the bunkers themselves then Hillsborough Country club is the golf course for you. The landscaper today said to me “ it’s almost impossible to find the golf ball with all these leaves” when he was sitting on the side of the 17th hole in his golf cart with a leaf blower next to him. If you have the desire to play this course even after this review I truly believe you should purposely try and hit the ball in the rough so you have a better lie than the fairway.
PS The golf carts are from 1496
