Great Gorge Golf Club - Lake/Quarry Course
About
Great Gorge Golf Club is situated on 500 acres of naturally preserved land, nestled in the Vernon Valley between the Wawayanda and Pochuck Mountain Peaks. Designed by George Fazio in 1970 on behalf of Hugh Hefner for his Great Gorge Playboy Club, the course boasts 3 championship nines: Rail, Lake and Quarry. With four tee box options, the course is manageable for newer golfers yet challenging for lower handicap players, making Great Gorge an ideal venue for all golfers.

Decent course, but not worth the money. Still needs work
I played here a few times a couple of years ago and I remember the course being in much better shape. Today, you could tell it was not very well maintained. Some greens were very fast, some were very slow. Yellow, dried out grass all over, some soft fairways, and many instances of “ground under repair” (clearly some construction still going on). In fact, 2 holes had the sprinklers on WHILE we were playing and we had to play around them! And it was around 9am, not that early...
Overall, a rather disappointing experience. Courses in that area are usually worth the drive all the way out there, and while Great Gorge had some scenic views, it wasn’t worth it. I’d say save your money (and gas, if you’re not local) and play a local, county course. Most likely it’ll be in the same (if not better) condition than Great Gorge.. Hope the construction ends soon and this place turns around. It has potential.
Amazing course, very scenic
I would have given the course conditions 5 stars instead of four if it wasn’t for all the rain we had, that’s 100% out of there control. That being said this is a beautiful course, fairways are in great shape, greens are really really fast, pace of play is great(due to the three 9s) and the staff is amazing. The course is great for beginners but also has challenging holes, the rough is not super punishing but the fairways aren’t always easy to hit and the greens are even harder to hit. My biggest challenge here was reading greens as they undulate a lot and are super fast. On top of all this you get panoramic views of the surrounding mountains. It’s a hidden gem, you will find a lot of the Vernon locals there.
challenging course in good condition
course was in very good shape for fall golf. beautiful views and fall colors. Outside grill and inside bar was open with good food. all staff very friendly.
Beautiful Layout
A wonderful, challenging course with a beautiful layout. Well-maintained and picturesque.
Afternoon teatime
Great layout, w/ hilly terrain with some challenging greens. Scenery is as good as it gets.Downside was the pace was slow due to the foursome in front (5 hour + round). It would have been nice if the course staff had asked them to pick up the pace as it was 2-3 groups deep behind us.
