Great Gorge Golf Club - Lake/Quarry Course
About
Great Gorge Golf Club is situated on 500 acres of naturally preserved land, nestled in the Vernon Valley between the Wawayanda and Pochuck Mountain Peaks. Designed by George Fazio in 1970 on behalf of Hugh Hefner for his Great Gorge Playboy Club, the course boasts 3 championship nines: Rail, Lake and Quarry. With four tee box options, the course is manageable for newer golfers yet challenging for lower handicap players, making Great Gorge an ideal venue for all golfers.

Extremely slow round, close to 5 hours. By the end, the group ahead of us had two holes open in front of them.
To make matters worse, starter/ranger told us to pick up the pace when we were waiting on every hole!
Before some says something, they need to know the facts. Don't base it on one group saying they are waiting. You need to determine the source of the problem.
Awesome place to play a round of golf
Very friendly staff.
Greatly managed course.
Challenging course layout.
Definitely money worth golf course.
Course went downhill yet their prices skyrocketed
Played here for a few years and it was always a challenging course worth the greens fees, but this year it looks like hey jacked up the greens fees to nearly 100$! I should have know this was going ti be bad when I went to their range where they are now charging 5$ for a bucket of balls they find on their course and mats that have stayed outside in the elements for the past 5 years. You have to hit around the artificial grass freyed and peeling off the rubber mat. On the course: Their tee boxes were dry and destroyed by other golfers. Clearly they are not being maintained. The fairways are all full of little divots (natural and golfer made). Be careful or you will trip and break your ankle. Sand traps are full of gravel and rock that splash up onto the greens on your bunker shot. The greens themselves were also atrocious. I’ve seen better greens at Public muni courses where you pay half the cost. Nobody fixes their divots and the greens were dry and fast. Depressions likely due to drainage and sinkage in the ground all over the place leading to wildly difficult reads. Cart paths look like they haven’t been paved since the 90s. Despite all these terrible conditions of the course the starter had the audacity to tell us it was 90 degree cart path only and came charging up to us as we started the back 9 for the day to make sure we went to the correct course of the 3 they have. Meanwhile they couldn’t get their act together to get us a cart until 5 minutes before our tee time.
So disappointed that I had to pay 30% more than last year to play at a course that they clearly aren’t maintaining. Don’t play this course, instead go play any of the Crystal Springs courses that are nearby. You’ll actually get your money’s worth.

Pretty course that needs some TLC
I haven't played this course is over 10 years. Tee boxes should be moved more often to prevent golfers looking for a divot free area to tee off. The starter was not friendly and actually yelled at me and my playing partner on 2 separate occasions. The course is picturesque on a larger scale, with a few minor changes, It has so much potential to be among one of the best, I would suggest the staff to play the course on a day off and think of what a golfer who is playing for the 1st time would think of every aspect of their experience.

You’d be hard pressed to find better pricing in the area.

SLOW..SLOW..SLOW
I played the Rail/Lake combo with a reserved tee time at 12:20. I arrived early and was permitted to start earlier than my tee time. When I made the reservation, I purposely picked the time because there were several empty tee times both prior and after mine. Needless to say, by time I got to the 6th hole on the front nine, there was a threesome ahead of me. This group did NOT play “ready golf” but played like they were on Tour and often playing more than one ball per golfer. By the time I got to the 8th hole on the back nine, the wait was the worst I have experienced. There was a twosome on the 9th tee, a foursome on the 8th green, a threesome on the 8th tee, my group, a threesome hitting the 7th green and another group in the 7th fairway. At no point was a ranger spotted to address the slow play. By time I finished, five hours went by. SLOW play kills a round and I will not be back.

I love that can play 2 of us
Beautiful course too
GREAT GORGE REVIEW
Course has so much potential. T-boxes, rough, and sand traps all need work and TLC. Greens were nice and super fast...almost too fast. Cart paths in terrible condition as is parking lot. I thought it was a bit pricey for what you got. This should be about a $50 course vice a $90. But layout is great and fun. Could really be a top course with right care and vision.
Thank you for leaving us a review. We are sorry to hear your experience was anything short of 5 stars, but we hope you will give us another try in the future. Thank you for choosing Great Gorge Golf Club - Lake/Quarry Course.
Rainy Day but course played well
Scattered rain all morning but the course held up well. Only negatives were the tee boxes and the bunkers. I know we are later in the season but the Tee boxes had a lot of divots, holes, and just needed to be maintained. Started teeing 2 yards behind the markers. Bunkers need to be maintained a bit more. Well at least players need to do their part after playing from it.
Great day
Course was in good shape with some challenging holes. Views were an added bonus as is Hef’s Hut for a cold beverage after the round.
Great price
Fast greens challenging blind shots from elevated tees course a must play
