Great Gorge Golf Club - Rail/Lake Course
About
Great Gorge Golf Club is situated on 500 acres of naturally preserved land, nestled in the Vernon Valley between the Wawayanda and Pochuck Mountain Peaks. Designed by George Fazio in 1970 on behalf of Hugh Hefner for his Great Gorge Playboy Club, the course boasts 3 championship nines: Rail, Lake and Quarry. With four tee box options, the course is manageable for newer golfers yet challenging for lower handicap players, making Great Gorge an ideal venue for all golfers.

Great course to play
somewhat challenging since it has hills but it was good
Unexplained Quirkiness
Check in layout and process has many quirks…from having to park a considerable walk from the clubhouse and bag drop. There is a closer parking lot that is just come first serve but isn’t clearly marked (looks like employee parking). You can’t get a key to the cart until right before you tee off, with no explanation…so you have to grab a few clubs and walk over to the driving range, where there are no options for teeing up shots. Just too many weird quirks that are missing signage and explanation for first timers. And the 3 9-hole courses are mix matched for your round of 18 and signage between some holes and between the 9’s can be a guessing game.
Slowest round
Took well over five and a half hours to play 18!!..no ranger around to speed up play…bad course management
Burgers were good tho
Course was horrible because the amount of rain that we got this week. But if there’s a lake in almost every hole why charge almost $100 dollars.
Great value
We had a great time golfing at great Gorge. We played the quarry and rail course. There are three 9hole courses here. Everything was great. Courses in great shape there’s definitely some holes where if it’s wet, the water would definitely pool up and make certain areas unplayable but for us today it was great. The food at Hef’s hut was very good and the cart girls were fully stocked.
Good value
Course is in very good condition overall. Cart paths a little rough, but with golf now prices, place is a steal.
Avoid Quarry course
Horrible layout, blind holes, course condition poor
Hidden gem
Other than some rain it was a great day. Course was in very good condition. Greens were in very good shape for late summer and all the play. THe staff from inside to starter were friendly and helpful. Beautiful views made for a wonderful golf experience.
