Rating 71.7

Nestled in the hills of Scotts Mountain, Harkers Hollow Golf Club was carved from a sloping hillside, giving it a challenging terrain with plenty of elevation changes. Opened in 1929, the golf course has a classic layout designed by Robert White, the first president of the PGA of America. Although it is a seemingly mild 6,551 yards from the back tees, the course plays much longer and harder thanks to the undulating terrain. The layout does offer a few lengthy holes as well as some interesting par 3s. The greens are small and fast with breaks ranging from subtle to dramatic. There is hardly any water but the Lopatcong Creek does run the entire length of the golf course and requires the occasional carry. The par-3 fifth hole is the club's signature. It is particularly notable for its scenery, which is why it has served as the backdrop for many weddings.

1st round of Dec 2022

We had a long frost delay today, but the Staff did a great job of getting everyone out ASAP.
The course was wet, but the conditions for play was better than expected. Greens, fairways, & rough were in better shape than when I played there in early May. Great effort by the Grounds Staff. Cart Paths,Tees & Bunkers need work, but they will come along in due time.
Thanks to Joe Manley & New Owners for bringing this course back slowly but surely

Frost delayed us half hour, but staff did their best to get everyone out. Greens in good shape and surprisingly fast.

Great for Winter Golf

All the leaves were taken care of. The Fairways, rough, and greens for late November were all well kept. Traps were as good as they can be for this course.

4 Stars

My previous review only showed 3 stars. I'm not sure why. I give it 4 stars and my 50+ footer was on the par 3 hole 11 not the tenth.

The new owners are doing it right.

For those of us who have played this course under the previous ownership I need say no more. For those who have not, it was a goat path. The greens are great (I hit 50+ footer to save par on 10). The fairways are also in good shape. There are some areas that are under repair but not in your line of play. The snackshack at the turn was open and stocked, beer, liquor, hot dogs and snacks which I was surprised to see in late October. The attendant was very pleasant. The tee boxes are a little beat up but with the dry summer we've had it can be expected. The cart paths are a whole other animal, they are nut busters, be careful. This of course is a very expensive fix and I think in time they will take care of this. As for the clubhouse (not the pro shop, although the proshop is great) you can feel the history as it was a private club in the past. Gene Sarazan played an exhibition match there. As for the restaurant in the clubhouse I haven't eaten there but the hotdogs at the turn were good.

PS. I worked the Proshop under the the previous owner, so I know what I'm talking about. AND the fall leaves were not in your way, they were moving them out of the way while we played but never in our line.
Shout out to the two gentleman I played with, I had a ball.

tough couse

A course where you have to no where to hit spots on the fairways and greens. Greens were bumpy and slow not worth a hour and a half drive.

Good agronomy Practices are showing

Disclaimer: I've been a fan of Harker's Hollow ever since the new owners have come on board. The course has flourished under there stewardship. The greens were aerated within 2 weeks and they putted extremely well. The fairways are in great shape after a long summer season. The tee-boxes have shown a lot of wear consistent with the amount of play they have and should be on the Super's to-do list. We teed off at 8am and were done by 11:45 - not bad for a Sunday in Sept in NJ. The most glaring problem with the course are the cart paths. The slope found on many of the holes necessitates the use of a hard surface and not loose material that would be flushed away in a heavy rain. The capital expenditure would be considerable for an improvement like this but my kidneys would thank the management.

Harkers initiation

Very friendly staff. Greens and fairways were in pretty good condition. Rough needed a cut. Layout was very hilly. Very reasonable greens fees made the round a good value. Restaurant had a good menu which made for a nice end to the day.

Avoid Harker Hollow

Although a well kept course I was not particularly impressed with the course layout. Some of the holes on back nine felt like we were playing on the side of the hill and reminisce of a poorer laid out public course of which it once was. I would not recommend as their so many other courses in the area.

Harkers Hollow - Recommend

HH has made great strides in bringing this course back from the brink. The superintendent is the MVP of the organization. His course stewardship and agronomy skills are top shelf. The staff is friendly and accommodating. You will have an enjoyable round at HH. If you have time, stop by the Uniontown grill. The food is well crafted and elevated beyond bar food.

No carts available

Purchase a tee- time for 3:00, 18 holes, cart included. Arrived at 2:25 and was told there were no carts available. Had to carry my bag, left after 9 holes. Staff is clueless and not helpful at all.
