River Vale Country Club
About
River Vale Country Club (formerly known as Bergen Hills Country Club.) sprawls across the gently rolling hills of northeast New Jersey. It has been ranked on Golf Digest's list of "Best Places to Play," but it still manages to remain one of Bergen County's most well kept secrets. You'll hardly ever run into crowds on this golf course. The layout has a classic design that incorporates a variety of elevation changes. Tricky uphill and downhill lies will be your biggest challenge on this layout. Strategically placed bunkers lurk beside the greensides and there are several holes where water hazards come into play, including the par-5 fifth, which has a lake on either side of the green. River Vale a tight golf course that demands accuracy and while it's not overly formidable, your skills will definitely be put to the test.

Great course
Some thinking and club selection off the tee required. Eventually I’ll learn to keep the driver in the bag on a couple of holes and layup on 9 after a bad drive.
Great course in excellent condition.
Sunday afternoon round with some light rain and no ranger to be found when the two groups ahead of us fell behind. I showed the slow group ahead of us on the GPS display how far behind they were and while no one could speak English at that moment they did pickup the pace.
I can understand the lack of a ranger on a $35 muni in these conditions but not at a premium course. Two greens fees pays for a ranger in the afternoon - don’t tell someone not to come in because it’s a little slow.
I realize it’s early but . . .
The greens were in horrible shape. Had we known they were that bad, we would not have spent $61 for 9 holes. I’ve always found River Vale to be overpriced

The greens were in terrible shape. Had we known, we wouldn't have paid $61 each for 9 holes. Even when the course is in better shape, I find it to be a bit overpriced.
Great condition
Course in great condition for just opening. Only qualms are that the quick grill at the turn closed so couldn’t get food without waiting and also driving range for some reason not open right now. Look forward to playing this couple more times this year
December Golf
Had a nice time on a gray, overcast and damp day. The course was in very good shape, considering the time of year and I was matched up with some playing partners that were very nice and friendly. All in all a great way to end my 2023 golf season!
Great Late Season Play
Anything this late in the year is really just a bonus. RVCC always delights and the course is still well maintained, even after a huge storm. Bunkers were dry and any downed limbs were removed from fairways. Wish they stayed open year round and didn’t have a wait list longer than the course itself for membership….
If you have a golf cover for your cart for winter play skip this place they claim its a liability so they don't allow it other then that course was decent
